"Console gaming is better because it just works"... still a valid argument?

We've all seen console elitists putting down PC gamers so often on these forums. "Oh PC gamers are elitists with no lives" and such, "what tards, console gaming is better, it works with no installs or glitches or viruses"...

Can this still be a valid argument today? We've seen the millions of problems with Modern Warfare 2, we've seen things such as the bug with Assasin's Creed 1 (PS3 version) where the screen went white and the game stopped functioning, we've seen hardware problems such as the red ring and yellow light.

What are your thoughts?

P.S. Any comments aside from "omg flamebait!" "omg troll" "this wont end well" "omg PC fanboy" would be appreciated. Originality please. Thanks.

I don't think it's really valid.

It all comes down to if you like to have a controller in hand or a keyboard

I'm sorry but you are trolling.
OT all games come out with bugs and glitches no matter what system you get them on.

sorta confusing thread, but no its far from an valid point, they keep trying to spit out new gimmicks (natal) and if you want something better, ie better graphics, more disc space or just s better machine you have to wait 5-7 years for it to be created.

On the contrary. I think most consoles nowadays are way ahead of the PC. If I could hook up a mouse and keyboard interface to a 360, I'd buy one in an instant. Way cheaper than getting my PC up to date for this game generation and my machine crashes almost all the time. All that's still superior to a console is the controlls.

Console and PC gamers are both elitist! Don't try to make one group holier than the other.

Handheld gaming FTW!

I'm still partial to console gaming for the standardised hardware.
This and modular controls are really the only arguments I have in favour of console gaming.

While there do seem to be more of certain kinds of issues with consoles than there used to be, it's still definitely simpler to get one working and more reliable to expect that things will just work right on it, even if sometimes they don't. I don't think you could actually come up with a good argument that that's not usually true.

As much as I like my PC and have been getting the vast majority of games for it instead of consoles in the past couple years, there's a lot more knowledge involved in understanding system requirements and fiddling with settings and drivers for various things. It's much easier to deal with than it was 20 years ago, but if you look at any gaming forum and check out posts about games that have a PC and a console version, a significant fraction of the PC ones will be people asking if it'll run on their computer or trying to figure out why it won't, which just isn't the case with console gaming.

Bugs are the developers doing something wrong. Getting a PC to work is stuff I have to deal with on my end. I have no idea what I'm doing in regard to PCs, and I wouldn't even know where to start. I prefer buying a console that I know will play every game I buy regardless of how much money I've paid for it.

I'm not an 'elitist' or anything though. I like consoles, other people like PCs. We're still playing video games.

Also, console games have had glitches for a long time, so I don't think you've really said anything new here.

I've never used my computer for serious gaming because my computer, at times, struggles to perform even computer tasks. My consoles, however, have rarely let me down in terms of delivering a sufficient gaming experience. That being said, I've never owned a 360.

I also hate using mouse-and-keyboard. It might be OK for RTS and turn-based RPGs, but for FPSs and platformers, I'll take a joypad.

They're elitist for a reason.

OT: The best argument for Console gaming is Bayonetta.
Whatever the reason, it is poor and stupid. Is there any good reason to act elitist ever?

Hello there, answer.

It seems to me that most console gamers are subjected to silly myths that puts them off of PC gaming for life. That or they've tried using Windows 98 to run CoD 4 or Crysis and can't understand why it won't work.

PC gaming works grand, otherwise I wouldn't be doing it. A bit more effort sure, but the payoff is usually better.
I think the 4th generation really ended the plug'n'play ability of consoles. I'd consider PC gaming better largely due to modifications available. A game with a strong community behind it can go above and beyond the original version.

Trolling is when somebody starts a thread in hopes of getting a flame war going. Most of the time trolls don't even have a personal opinion on the controversial issue at hand.

I actually am genuine about the opinion I stated, and just want to create a discussion, but if people are going to get so worked up over technology, that's their problem.

Well Consoles introduced standard hardware requirements that are simpler than reading off a checklist of parts on the back of the box to see if you can run it with the whole this games is made for a Sony Playstation 2 or Nintendo Wii or Sega Dreamcast etc.

Though "Is it better?" that's just a matter of personal opinion.
