"Console gaming is better because it just works"... still a valid argument?

So you're against discussing video game based subject matters huh?

Hmm... why did you join a gaming forum?

Nah, it's not a valid point and never really has been. The story comes from those who try to play new games on old, worn out machines and expect it to work. When it doesn't they assume that every PC bar the super-duper high-end ones must be like theirs, when in reality theirs is just poorly maintained, cheap, or old.

Console: 1.No installs.2.immediate updates, 3.controller, 4.always works, 5.drop in-drop out without concerns, 6.i can use my computer at the same time and multi-task.
1. Flash games.
Also, see PS3 and Xbox options.

2. Steam, Xfire, Impulse, pretty much all games now have self-updaters anyway.

3. That's opinion.

4. Nyeh. Isn't that the point of debate in this thread? It's not really an issue, as others have said.

5. What? Of online games? That's never been a problem, you just click disconnect.

6. Alt-tab is much quicker and easier.
Is everyone completely incapable of noting the subjectivity of gaming. Consoles wouldn't be here if people didn't want a solution. Consoles fix the above problems I have with the PC. If you love it, I don't care. Enjoy your time

Bugs are the developers doing something wrong. Getting a PC to work is stuff I have to deal with on my end. I have no idea what I'm doing in regard to PCs, and I wouldn't even know where to start. I prefer buying a console that I know will play every game I buy regardless of how much money I've paid for it.

I'm not an 'elitist' or anything though. I like consoles, other people like PCs. We're still playing video games.

Also, console games have had glitches for a long time, so I don't think you've really said anything new here.
this. due to time, i prefer console games because i know what im getting, and i know it will work, and i know i can pick it up and resell it when im done with it, i dont have the time to sit and worry about requirements and all the drives and whatnot on my computer for pc games, so its just not logical for me to care for pc gaming in the next few years. and i hardly ever see console elitist? they "prefer" it, does not mean they are being elitist, i prefer the controller in my hand and the reasons above, doesn't mean the pc isn't more powerful, becuz it is, but the general set of games that i have i dont think or know if they would all work on the pc, and for just the slightest bit better of graphics (which i dont care about) i could be playing on pc, which isn't worth it to me, plus i usually resell my games to get new ones without having to pay, and you really can't do that with pc

im not an elitist, its on pure preference, i see more pc elitist than console elitist so i really think this thread is null, and your just flame baiting around

Ughhh.

1. Yes i have played PS3 and I loathe the controller. Also, i install many games onto my xbox for faster running.
2. I have steam. I wrote above.
3. On very few games and even less worth noting.
4. Yes it always works. Consoles crash to the same level as PC's crash. Cept PC's have the added might-not-work-with-your-spec problem
5. Who with a mind plays multiplayer?
6. Why would i want to flip between windows.

Please keep your frothing at the mouth to yourself. People like consoles, get over it.
Haha oh I love presumptuous people like this.

I'm a console gamer too. I just think you're talking out of your ass.
Ok.

I've never thought of the argument being valid. The argument "consoles are equaly good because they just work", though, is more than valid. One is not better than the other, they are simply different.

If you couldn't tell, I am a mostly-console gamer. I don't play my Steam-ready, game-capable PC as much as I might like for two reasons.
1)Because I want it to just work without having to upgrade it every two weeks, making sure that I keep up-to-date the 2) amazing, mind-bogling graphics. I mean, the stiffies I hear some of you PC gamers pop over the OMG FOTO-REELISTIC graphics turns the experience off for me. The life-like bloom vomited at all times is not helping the fact that I am wrestling the keyboard just trying to crouch-jump.

But as I said, to each his own. If consoles do somehow become better than PCs, it won't be by any noticable margin. And please flame me for my comments regarding PC gamers; I enjoy nothing more than my message mox informing me someone cares for my expertly crafted musings.

I have always been a pc gamer. I bought red faction from steam over the holidays, it took 3 hours of research to get it to even start! But most games work nowadays, and I have had the RROD, so i guess it all works out even.

There is no subjectivity involved in many of your points. I only called one out as being opinion, and didn't try to argue against it. The others are just... well, wrong.

It all comes down to if you like to have a controller in hand or a keyboard
we call it drivers, get it and play with a controller on your computer.
Not the same feeling

This is as pointless as "Which religion is the one true religion?"

We're all gamers, we all play games. The rest is choice, personal reasons are personal. The games are far more important than the platform they are played on.

I love PC gaming because the 7 year old squelers aren't usually smart enough to operate computers...

just like the mac can't say that("It justworks")... consoles can't either anymore. Soon I hope they get rid of the idea of consoles so then there won't be any platform wars as there will be only one effective one- THe PC. Maybe Apple would make its own Dev department and we'd have it that way instead of the 360 V PS3 nonsense.

Games were made on computers, they should be played on them instead of ones tha tspecialize cuz'... what's the point? I dont' see it.

Just market different controls.

Personally I'm a fan of both. I would call myslef a PC gamer as well as a Console gamer the issue with this is that I don't really have a PC worthy of gaming anymore (Well my laptop plays DoW, but i'm apprehensive to re-install L4D as it is what killed by last laptop...

PC gaming always finds a new way to die on me the first time I install a game, but it's a labour of love that gets me to install it

I find that games that work out of the box don't stick around in my intrest for much longer. Mabye that's because all the good games aren't very polished, or I like a challange which develops an attachment to the game, or my brain thinks "Damnit, I worked for this, I AM GOING TO ENJOY IT"

In the end, the Keyboard is superior in terms of the kind of games I like (TF2, RTSs, God Games, Sims/Simcity and respective clones)

Not to say that one is better than the other, and I game on both, but my preference is the console. I like being able to make one hardware investment that will last for several years, without feeling like everyone out there has a better system than me. I also have a high end home theater system and play a lot of multiplayer, so those are factors as well. If a game is available for the console and the PC, I will usually pick it up for the console.

I work as a system administrator by trade, so I would say I know my way around a computer better than most PC Gamers, but just being able to pick up a controller and play is nice. It kills me everytime I have to set a graphics slider to anything but "Very High". It's a principle thing, I think.

However, I do feel that some of the best games are on the PC, and the modding and customization will never be possible on the console.

So in the end, I would say I have contributed absolutely nothing to this conversation.
