Yeah...pretty basic really. I like horror games, but not having a very good PC, gems like amnesia are barred from me, and I'm sure I'm not the only one in this situation. So, I made a thread, so we can all sit down and scrounge for the last scraps O' horror together.

Here's most of the horror games that I've played...including ones that, to be honest, weren't that scary, but had horror themes to avoid confusion. I have an xbox 360, psp, and ds as my current consoles.

Dead rising 1, 2, case zero and west.
Dead space 1 and 2
Dead island
Left 4 dead 1 and 2
Splatterhouse (I actually really enjoyed this. One of those games you can just turn off your brain for and enjoy the carnage, especially if you're a sucker for b-movie style like me)
Red dead redemption undead nightmare
Aliens vs predator
Fear 1 and 2
Deadly premonition (play it, oh god, just play it. Some parts of it are genuinely unerving, but mostly it's one of the most enjoyably wierd games you'll ever play)
Alan Wake
Doom 3
Metro 2033
Limbo
Shadows of the damned
Silent hill homecoming
Castlevania lords of shadow
Resident evil DS
Aliens infestation (fantastic and tense, if you love aliens, this is perfect)
Condemned 1 and 2
Dark souls
clive barker's jericho
resident evil 5
Bioshock 1 and 2
Singularity
wolfenstein

In particular, I'd love some supernatural horror. A few ideas I have that I need opinions on;
Silent hill downpour (just not sure it'll be worth £40. Thing is, because konami underdistributes like hell, I'm not sure I'll be able to find a cheap copy)
Saw 2 (played the demo, didn't seem too bad)
dead rising 2 off the record (yeah, I'm a nut for dead rising, but I'd only really go for this if I could find it cheap)

I mean, the obvious missing from that list is Amnesia. EDIT: crap, missed the 1st line about not having a PC sorry.

Avoid the "Saw" games like the plague! They're even worse than the last movies have been, which is saying a lot!

I would suggest you play the "Condemned" games, they kinda stand out as lacking over there.

While not exactly horror, "Dark Souls", "Clive Barker's Jericho" and "F3AR" also seem to fit your bill.

Aw crap, I forgot to put condemned on the list. Love that game. The second one wasn't great, but had a few stand out sections (THAT F***ING BEAR!).

Aaaand I've played the other 3 as well. I fear I may truly have reached the bottom of the barrel, thus the desperate consideration of the saw games.

Dammit.. was gonna say screw consoles and go for Amnesia. Hmm I started Dead Space recently. It's not really scary as its mostly jump scares and loses its novelty after the first 2 jump scares but its an overall creepy game I guess with a pretty nice atmosphere.

Yeah, the scares were cheap overall in both dead space games, but there impact is helped by the atmosphere, definately, and they're still very good games if not great horror.

The Thing and Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth.
I didn't know the thing was made backwards compatible...

I knew call of cthulhu was, I've been searching for an affordable copy for a good few years now. Mega rare.

"Bioshock" has some horror elements to it, as well as Raven Software's last two shooters, "Wolfenstein" and "Singularity". They're still shooter, mind you, but dark and tense ones.

The Thing worked on my bc ps3.

Why do you need a newer pc ? Besides Amnesia, most all of the good horror games are older anyway.

Snip
I've played a few of the playstation 1 and 2 ones, and eternal darkness. I got undying after a friend told me his "mobile could run it", but I didn't go much further into PC game territory, I had a couple of problems with that regarding controls, and the fact that, apparently, theme hospital doesn't work on windows 7 left me with the feeling that I could never fathom PC gaming.

If your a true fan of horror, I'd lose that notion you have about pc gaming, because your selection is gonna be very limited when it comes to consoles.

Didn't that list I posted make you curious ?
Yes, but...I've got more chance of understanding the motives of an eldritch abomination than understanding PC gaming.

Consoles don't really have too many good horror games because publishers don't think there's a market for them.

Might want to add Fallout 3 to the list. The game can be quite creepy and parts of it like the Dunwich Building are straight up horror.

Played it. Damn, I'm gonna have to start petitioning for horror on consoles at this rate...

Maybe you could use an emulator, like'PCSX', [http://pcsxr.codeplex.com/] to play some classic/horror games. My Ubuntu box runs it seamlessly. It's not hard to set up either, at least, mine wasn't :) (If this is illegal, take mercy on me Mods. I'm pretty sure it's legal though. *fingers crossed*)

Is that fully legal?

Emulators are fully legal, as far as I know. It's illegal to download ROMS, or the actual game. With emulators like PCSX, you can either play from a standard disk (either original or ISO disk) or an ISO. So, if you have those games on disk, you can play them, legally.

Captcha: 'Push the Envelope' How...fitting.

Heh, I've actually been trying to drum up some interest in a petition to get a console port of Amnesia: The Dark Descent, specifically on XBLA/PSN.

I even emailed Frictional Games and asked if they still had any plans for a console port (Because they were considering one at one point) and whether a petition would help but I gotten a reply just yet and probably won't get one.

Ah, I don't have any of those on disc in the first place, although, if I look into how and whether these emulator things would work for me, maybe I can start tracking some down.
