The only time I've had a controller die on me is when I personally broke it.

Depends, really.

Nintendo and Sony controllers will last for decades. <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.277708-Reviews-from-the-Backroom-Backroom-Tech-1-N64-Controller-and-Restoration-Guide>N64 Controllers tend to have some issues, but the only controllers I've heard of anybody having fatal issues with is X-box and 360 controllers.

I think it really depends on what game you're playing. For instance, i've worn down 2 left analogue sticks to the point of snapping by just playing Crash Team Racing.

The only controller I've had to replace was a shitty Mad Catz PS2 one, but that was broken in the first place. Other than that, I've still got a MegaDrive in mint condition.

'Scuse me, I'm just nostalgia'ing for sone Sonic...

Never had to replace a controller...

However, I am having a problem with one of my PS3 launch controllers. The left analog stick is... sticky. It doesn't want to return to "neutral" and it won't register fine, steady motion properly (like on a radial menu).

It makes certain games really difficult to play (Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age O or 2, Assassins Creed 2/Brotherhood).

Also, this same controller will occasionally turn itself off (while still having plenty of power left).

My other launch controller is fine (I got 2)... this one is just off somehow. It still works, but it's a pain, and I've been considering buying a new one and retiring this one.

Anyone else had a problem like this with their PS3 controller?

Congratulations on having the most unnerving profile pic I've ever seen.

OT: I've never had to replace a controller, but a friend of mine has replaced one or two and stuffed the analogue sticks up quite a lot more.

It just depends on how well you treat them, I would never use a controller with dirty hands or after having eaten with my hands.

PS: Did you know that the image of a weeping angel is, itself, an angel?

My PS2 controllers have always had a fault where the sticks break so the spin in their sockets. Other wise all my other controllers are fine.

the only controller i own that may show some sign of use is my 360-look-alike pad for my PC and that one i had for 18 month and it works just fine. Than again i play mostly FPS, strategy and RPGs and for most of them i use the M/K anyway.

I've only had to replace one controller because I accidentally crushed it. Other than that I'm still using my original controllers for the 360, ps3, ps2 and gamecube, and I generally clock in 8-10 hours a day.

eh it depends on your use

n64 controller + mario party on hard mode?

you might as well have a warranty on that thing, it is going to be on fire within a couple days

my 360 controller has lasted since i first got the 360 at launch..and the only reason why my ps2 controllers broke was because the joysticks got clicked so many times the l3/r3 stopped working.
Yeah, thats what burnt out my N64 controllers most of all...
And my PS2's joysticks are beyond shot.
Only problem I have with my 360 controllers, is the left joystick of the one I use all the time, has a huge bite taken out of it.
Definitely because of sprinting in MW2, lol.
