So I'm totally stealing this idea from @DoPo but I thought it would be an interesting experiment. So lets put down some guidelines.

1. Feel free to change the topic in your post, but the first part of your post has to be relevant to the post before yours.

2. Keep it civil

3. If possible lets try to avoid the hot button topics we all know will cause the thread to be locked/start a huge fight.

4. Please try and think of this as a safe place to chat about random things.

Let us begin:

So I got home from work last night, to find out that the city had been scrapping sidewalks. For those of you who don't live in the winter areas of the world what this means is that they take their little sidewalk plow and scrap all the packed snow/ice off the sidewalk leaving them as just concrete again. They do this near the end of winter to help keep the side walks clear (while it really just makes a nice channel for water and ice to build up making it more dangerous IMO).

Anyways, so I got home last night to find they have done this to my street... I now have two 10-15cm speed bumps in my driveway, which my car bottoms out on trying to get in and out of my yard. While I understand that the one on the edge of the sidewalk and my driveway will be my responsibility to fix up (ramp so that I can get in and out) as far as I'm concerned the city should be responsible for cleaning the boulevard portion. (That part between the sidewalk and the road which is technically city property in my city) What do you guys think?

Wait... so is I get this straight... they cleared the snow straight onto your driveway from the pavement, and now you have a couple of lumps of snow that you need to clear? I would personally clear them, but take a couple photos and write to the council to moan about it... it's not really fair that, especially if driving over it bumps your car!

I missed our annual week of Snow in the UK because I was in Las Vegas, which was lucky because I can't stand the stuff...

It doesn't seem like that big of a deal just to grab a shovel and clear them off on your own. I have to do that myself quite often in the winter and it doesn't take that much effort.

I think the city should clean that part, because, well, why not? Gotta use them tax moneys for something. But that's why I'd never buy a car -- too much work to do just to keep it useable.

You have no idea, QM. You don't only have to worry about getting the right tires for your car to keep it grounded, but you also have to think about how the cold will affect the fluids of your car. It got so cold here that my powersteering fluid ran overly viscous, causing the powersteering pump to fail for the third time on a brand new system. Or maybe my dozen year old Ford is just a piece of shit.

See, PITAI, I didn't even know that powersteeringfluid was a thing. And then there are those ridiculous ads, where the driver (always a white man) is driving at high speed on a narrow mountain road...

At least American laws about toy commercial state that the toy needs to be shown in an environment that resembles the average kid's home. (At least in a book I read, but it was already old back in 2002 when I read it.)

I feel ya, because whenever I have to shovel my driveway during storms, plows just come and dump a ton more snow into my drive way and I have to shovel it again. It gets pretty annoying when you have to go out to shovel like 3 or 4 times in one day (I live in New England and this winter has been exceptionally bad).

Queen Michael, I think the point of the ads is for people to think "Oh shit I don't have powersteering fluid, I don't know what situation I would need it, but I've driven on narrow winding roads before, oh me oh my". Basically, just capitalize on the fears of nervous drivers.

In the U.K., toy commercials simply have to not be misleading, but I would have thought that showing it in an average kids home would be preferred as it would, I dunno, seem more realistic to get or something. Why not apply this to all things? I've seen adverts where you have people live in mansions, which is certainly not average.

But then, this is the U.S. who has to put a warning into toy capes warning people that it won't grant the ability to fly, so what do I know about America?

But, LD... That's where the "imagination" jumps into the equation...

I mean, I remember trying to recreate this toy train I had in conjunction to the container it came in, but I lack the astroturf to pull it off... Luckily I had my "imagination" to fill in the gaps for me...

That reminds me of when I was a kid and used an miniature train track as a sword and got into epic sword fights with my cousin (they never lasted long, since a sword made mostly of segmented plastic parts doesn't last much).

I used to pretend my socks were swords back when I had more pairs of socks than I could count... Most of those pairs were then turned into pseudo-bra padding during my drama class days in high school... (I sill find that to be a little bit funny from my perspective...)

I actually have been trying to train in swordsmanship and have stuck to it for a little over a year and I'm ok but not the best it's pretty fun and good exercise. But what I'm really happy about is while I was out with my best mate we picked up Shadow of the colossus, TC streets of LA, and MK game and then headed over to a convenience store and proceeded to buy drinks for only 10 cents because he knows a special code. Needless to say good day today.

Drinks for 10 cents... in the 21st century? sheesh... that reminds me of the old Coke fridge my Dad has that was a nickel for a bottle of pop. It is from like the 40s or something... Seeing as it is Friday, how many of you are going to get to enjoy nice upcoming weekend? For those of you who are stuck working (sorry) does it aggravate you when people say "Have a good weekend" when they know you work, but they don't?

Bag the lumps of snow and ice, tie it up, and dump the whole thing at the steps of city hall with a message that on one side says "KEEP THE CHANGE" and on the other explains your level of irritation on the matter.

I've always wanted to go to Sweden. Then I'd puddle-jump all around Europe.

Powersteering is different from normal steering. Powersteering makes your car far easier to steer (i.e. not mandatory) while normal steering permits you to steer at all (mandatory). However, I went to the car show in February and didn't note a single car that didn't have powersteering (though to be fair, vans would be practically undriveable to the normal modern consumer without it). Cars nowadays are preposterously complicated, leading to countless issues particularly when they are of sub-par building quality. We also have a GM vehicle from the early 2000s which was basically their dark years. When I drive, I choose between my Ford which regularly has issues with the steering or my stepfather's GM which has hundreds of inconsequential but annoying issues and possibly total electrical failure, which in modern times can easily be fatal.

I've always wanted to train in swordsmanship, but mostly because then I'd have an excuse to to buy a colichemarde and a left hand dagger.

Also, fuck it, I'm getting a can of Stella.

See I don't do much of that sort I am doing stuff more with short swords not the size of sting but a little longer don't know what the sword is called in particular. But it is nice because of my size I'm pretty short so a short sword works pretty well for me. My favorite characteristics of the style I practice is the necessity of a nimble yet sturdy blade that allows quick movement of the blade while also giving enough range to surprise the opponent with your reach.
