Maybe part of my problem is that I kind went through in ten years what old school people did in twenty-five; I was born in the middle of the 16-bit era, saw the jump to 3D, the introduction of analog sticks, the unveiling of the PS2 and gradual evolution (or devolution to some) of the game market as we see it today.Iwata said:

Maybe your problem is you care too much about reviews and what other folks think? Half the things you're tired of don't even affect me because I don't frequent forums or developer diaries or buy pre-orders. Maybe you should just take a step back from being part of the so called "gaming community" and just play a title every now and again if it looks interesting.
You know something I noticed in your post, you didn't actually mention being bored of games. At least, thats what I did about a year ago when I got sick of gaming for a while. Realised it wasn't 'gaming' but this extended baggage so I took a break (this website included) for a while and just played the games that looked fun-not reading up about every little feature that might have been, is out on the other console etc.
I'm back here now, but I tend to stir clear of the more moany sounding threads.

I was in a similar situation, where I just didn't find gaming fun at all. It was brought on by buying half a dozen triple A games and all of them being extremely safe, unoriginal and merely cashing in by adding an unnecessary sequel. I was tired of spending my money on games that were basically something I had played before with a slightly different coating.
I am currently much happier with gaming right now though, I bought Valkyria Chronicles a couple of weeks ago and am steadily going through that. I am slowly getting through Lone Survivor, but due to it being a bit frustrating I am doing it in sort bursts. I am recently bought Fire Emblem Awakening and struggling to put it down. As well as playing Left 4 Dead 2 when I don't feel like doing much else.
I think you just need to find something new to play, rather than sticking with what you know. I have never really played games such as Valkyria Chronicles or Fire Emblem before, so they are a pleasant break from my normal choices.
As for the whole "Pseudo-intellectual" and "Everything is sexist" brigades, I wouldn't say they are worth dropping gaming for, just perhaps staying away from the discussions where such people are likely to reside, if it is getting too much. It's not worth giving up something you like due to a handful of morons with persecution complexes and chips on their shoulders.

Fucking Steam Sales. Justifiably a reason to live, not just to game. You'll find so many games you haven't played and all of them will amuse you for at least an hour but cost you about £2. Some will consume your life and the price will be the same.

If you see a game that you want to play and you're happy with the price, then buy it and play it. If you don't see anything you like, then do something else with your time. Take up cross-stitch or something.

This was tongue in cheek. Kind of. Gaming should be fun, good times and stuff. No need for it to feel like commitment. If you're not the mood, do something else that gives you pleasure, fun, good times. Simple as that. (an advice given from a rocking chair)
2) From briefly skipping through the thread so far, maybe it IS about time to escape the confinements of console gaming. By which I mean opening ways to be more (oh, the forbidden word! Fuck off!) "casual" about your gaming habits. I'm not a PC gamer by choice, just by fact - but I somewhat have a feeling that "we" get to have more titles that come with a natural teflon-coating to all those annoying topics being endlessly discussed. I myself am quite fed up with the current state of TripleA titles - but I just don't have to play them. In fact, I haven't played an AAA since... December[footnote]for the sake of sincereness: not counting about 7 rounds of Battlefield[/footnote]

and lately I actually have some beef with what I see on the Escapist, whether it's the official content or the forums - "FUN" doesn't seem to embody any value around here. For the past six weeks I've been exclusively playing one game. A highly praised game by both critics and players - there hasn't been one single mention of this game... at all.
