The Many, from System Shock 2 (hive-mind parastic alien race that spreads via fungal infection and takes over the host, but with a Gaia-like state of consciousness whereby they are trying to free humanity from war and turmoil, while still retaining a sense of identity within the 'collective'. Like a cross between the Borg and the necromorphs from Dead Space, except with a much more sympathetic point of view. It's the spiritual predecessor of Bioshock, but much harder, MUCH scarier and with much more developed rpg aspects - separate skill and tech trees, play as a science/repair-based techie character or a psi-ops as well as shooter builds. Like Bioshock it has kind of a pseudo-intellectual slant to it, in SS2 it's about individualism (in the form of the villain AI SHODAN from the previous game returning) vs collectivism (in term of the game's other villain, The Many).
