Asari are hawt.

EDIT: I totally forgot about the terrians from Earth 2. They are the epitome of awesomeness.

I want this show to be rebooted. And last more than one season. And not end on a fucking cliffhanger.
Holy shit! Impressed that you not only knew about this show, but also enjoyed it! Kudos! Though it really kinda did get shitty towards the end... But a reboot would be tits!

But as far as alien races go, I like the "Martian" in Charles Robert Wilson's "Spin." If you've ne'er read it, then do so now. Seriously, right now. Go. Don't wait. NOW.

Pfft, Tyranids, are just a rip off of the zerg. It was my first thought when I saw them (mainly HUNDREDS of them). Zerg came first, zerg are cooler, zerg are evolved, some can fly :D, but most of all, ZERG ARE INFINITE.
[inserts the "Challange Accepted"-meme]

Tyranids appeared first in the "Rogue Trader" edition of Warhammer 40k, what was the first corebook and was released 1987. Starcraft and the Zerg were released 1999.

- Tyranids are the epitome of "evolved", they devour entire races and adapt their DNA to their genpool to create new mutations, literally on the fly to their next meal. The Carnifex, that inspired the Ultralisk, was created when the Tyranids got their claws on the dna of a Spacemarine Terminator.

- Gargoyles, a Tyranid unit, is very well able to fly, as are several other units that can adapt wings when needed. Lyctors for xample can "fly", or more hover decent heights using Psy-Powers.

- Tyranids are infinite by default. While the fleet is busy devourering a world, literally at the same time a whole new generation of a bigger number is hatching on the swarm-fleet.

You're welcome.
And ALL of the above come from the "Alien" aliens.
I've not read the book but the Starship Troopers film aliens were very tyranid like...anyone know how closely they followed the book, because if they do they I'd say that Starship Troopers aliens came first.

Also Xenomorphs get my vote
I'm afraid that in the book the bugs were actually "a madman's conception of a giant, intelligent spider." They weren't mindless insectoids or resembled the arachnid warriors at all which is debatable but since in the book they had beam or plasma-based weaponary and once again resembled a spider I'm doubting they are similar both physically and mentally.

However if this was a thread about space marines...[sub]back to your cage fanboy![/sub]

And the only reason anyone likes the Quarians is that they think Tali's cute.

Or they actually like the fact that the Quarians created the Geth, and that they are forced to live on a fleet of ships, in hazard suits. And they can'y colonize anywhere, due to a eak imune system. Tali's cuteness is just a bonus.

ORKZ

Orcs in space. With guns AND close combat weapons. Orcs were invented by Mr. Tolkien more than half a century ago ... he has a lot to answer for that man.

Didn't the Drej only attack the human world because the humans had created something very powerful, and they had no idea what it was and were afraid? To think that earth could've avoided being blown up if they just let on that it made planets or something.

Fave alien race at the moment is the Morrigi, alien space crows from Sword of the Stars.

I'm going to count the Daemons from 40k as aliens since they come from space, look vaguely human and can't warp anywhere near earth.
They teleport in, get pissed off then destroy everything until the Daemon Hunters show up. And the stories behind some of them are great.
Skarbrand attacked the god of Blood, War and Rage and managed to take a chip of his armour off.
Skulltaker was created and the first thing he did was decapitate another bloodletter.
The BlueScribes are 2 blue horrors eternally squabbling while collecting spells.
Ku'Gath fell into a brew of toxins and grows Nurglings in himself.

But if I can't count them...
The Hierarchy from Universe At War. Humanity fired a nuke at their capital ship, it succeeded in pissing them off a bit. They have giant tripod mecha things that beam in troops and tanks. And it wasn't even a full Hierarchy army. Just a contingent lead by Kamal Rex.

The Borg, baby.

Maybe they weren't original, but when they showed up it was always pure awesomesauce.

2nd place (or tied for first) would be the creatures of Aliens.

Third is probably Galactus.

Not nearly enough Lovecraft in this thread.

The Mi-go will put your brain in a jar and take you to Pluto.
The Great Race of Yith will body-swap with you to learn about your culture.
The people of K'n-yan will torture you in horrible ways and reanimate your corpse as a deathless slave.
And the Shoggoths will nom you.
To brighten the day. And nom you with a nom-nom-nom.

Come on H.R.Gigers Xenomorphs are the among the greatist artist creations in movies. They realy show Gigers style of machine mixing with lifeforms. Superbly disturbed artist and wonderful creation which since the first Alien made me say "i wound not like to be Ripley".
These are damned scary. So are the Tyranids, for pretty much the same reason, apart from the movie bit.

For me the overall winner of cool, the Ultimate Fonzie, goes to the Gallifreyans!

How has no one said Time Lords yet? D:

I'm sorry.

That doesn't look like an alien to me.
"But, you look human!"
"No, you look Timelord, we were here first!"
Not just because they're coolest (and they are) but because they get the coolest bad guys to stop from destroying time and space every episode.

What you cant chose that?
WELL RULES ARE FOR PEOPLE WHO FOLLOW THEM!
NINJAS ALL THE WAY!
Following the spirit of the above post, I'm kinda wondering where the Twit-light crowd is with their animal vs sophisticate arguments (Jacky vs Eddy?) but maybe they're hoping we'll forget it's fiction.

The Silence from Doctor Who. An alien that could be standing next to you in plain sight, but you forget about immediately after looking at it is one of the best monster concepts ever. Also, they incinerate people with their minds. Beast.

So what's your favorite alien race in all of literature, games, movies, and TV shows?

Mine would definitely have to be the Drej from the movie Titan A.E. They're energy beings that can completely obliterate whole planets with a huge weapon mounted on their mothership. Top that!
What!?....NOT the Goa'uld? ;)
I think the Anubis guards are cool. Not the alien that controls them. :p
