Coolest RTS Game Unit

Based on name, voice, efficiency (uses of the unit) and personal bias. For me it's the 'Overlord Tank' from C&C: Generals. Despite the game not being so good, this unit is pure win. It has awesome lines, can crush everything and in large enough quantities is basically unstoppable.

So what's your choice? Cast away!

For me it's the Marine from Starcraft and Starcraft II. Cheap, quick to make, reliable, and their voices aren't grating. Got a problem? Send enough of them in, and eventually you won't!

I'd have to say the Baneblade from the Dawn of War games. They make playing as the Imperial Guard piss easy. Simply 'Hold The Line' with a network of turrets and garrisoned bunkers until you can get the Mars Pattern Command, then as soon as you build the Baneblade you've basically won by default. Especially if you have another one ready to be built in the queue in case your first one bites the dust, which is usually unlikely.

Otherwise, I have a soft spot for cavalry units in general in Total War. Purely because they allow me to use my favourite tactic, which is to charge the enemy from the rear and rout them in one go. 0r top charge from two sides at once in a pincer movement...

I also go with Dawn of War and the Basilisk its just pure artillery fun.

Or the heavy cavalry in Battle for MiddleEarth i just love how they ride through infantry, bodies flying through the air...

Forgot. For people who haven't played Generals. The 'Overlord Tank' is the last in the line of tanks with 2 gun barrels, 125mm each, can construct one of 3 different add-ons:
Propaganda Tower - heals all units in range, increases attack speed slightly
Gatling Cannon - perfect against infantry, also only defense against air
Bunker - where you can store up to 5 infantry and they can fire from it, while the tank survives they are protected (if they are the basic ones, they can be unloaded and capture bases).

It's preprocessors were the Mammoth Tanks and the Apocalypse tanks, but this one wins, since it can heal others, not only itself and has best lines with an awesome voice.

XV15 Stealth-suit squad, from Dawn of War.
Weapons can upgrade to fusion blasters, which melt flesh and steel alike, they are always invisible (except when certain units or abilities are used/nearby), and have jetpacks for getting around the edges into a base to wreck havoc. Great for ambushes, or exterminations, and are useful to bolster a frontline. Only drawback is short range and slower rate of fire.

Easy to make, and when you have a team of them with stimpacks going to town on Zerglings and Hydralisks, it's a good old fashioned barbecue. Not the most effective unit against large opponents, but I still love hearing "Need a light?" when I select them.

Damn it, I was ninja'd by the OP!
But yeah, I love the Overlord Tank. It's lines are just awesome, and the Propaganda tower is just all kinds of win. The Gatling Cannon is also good since it essentially neutralizes RTS tank's traditional weakness to infantry.

Why is this in off-topic?

Anyway. My absolute favorite might be the Teutonic Knight from Age of Empires 2, if it weren't for the Kadeshi Multi-Beam Frigates, which are absolutely wonderful, both in design and in function.

In a game where a single beam weapon requires an entire frigate, this thing has four on something midway between a frigate and a corvette (the next size down). And it spins when it fires.

I can't say I have any single one, but a few definitely stand out
The Tiger Tank from Company of Heroes, specifically the alternate model and voice one from Tales of Valour which featured in the mini-campaign 'Tiger Ace'; the commander always sounds awesome and it is a bit more refined than the other German super-weapons; unlike the King Tiger or Jagdpanther, it can be replaced if lost; it is reasonably quick for such a power vehicle, has excellent armour and is affected by the Veterancy upgrades the Wehrmacht get. In my opinion, it is disputably the best heavy armour available to any of the four factions.

Alternative...
Chaos Space Marine Squad from Dawn of War: Chaos Rising. Basic upgrade boosts their stats. The can get a champion who makes them better again. Lastly they can be upgraded to be either amazing ranged soldiers or given chain-axes (a bit like a chainsaw, but in axe form - nasty!) and used as heavy assault troops. The just look awesome as well.

Another...
Shogun: Total War's battlefield ninjas. They are Ninjas who fight on the battlefield; I shouldn't need to say more! They look cool, are stealthy and excellent in both close combat and can barrage enemy units with throwing knives. Sure the graphics haven't aged well, but the unit's profile picture is nice and, well their ninjas for goodness sake; a whole squad of NINJAS! I sincerely hope they make a return in Shogun 2.

These are the first three that came to mind, but I'd also regard a lot of Panzer Elite units from Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts, the Monkeylord from Supreme Commander and the Glash Gitz from Dawn of War 1 as all being really cool as well, although there are a lot of units from a lot of games I like a lot.

The Gray Knights from Dawn of War ^^ those guys are badass...gotta fear a fully armored glowing in gray guy who screams at you "FEAR THE JUDGMENT OF THE RIGHTEOUS! SCUM!" as they charge in your direction...

If they hadn't had crappy health and no melee survivability, they would have been the most OP infantry in that game. I mean come on, they are invisible, can upgrade with AT weapons and have jetpacks from goodness sake.

I notice a few people have said Dawn of War 1 units; there were a lot of good units in that game.

I was always such a fan of this little guy:

AoE2:TC's Missionary.

Why? Because he had the balls to ride into battle on a donkey!

I wasn't sure if it belonged in Game and RP so I put it here just to be safe :).
Makes sense. I think in the past topics such as these have cropped up in the games forum rather frequently, but probably nobody but us obsessive jerks will really care one way or t'other.
