I can't read the last panel because the Escapist's other shit is covering it.
Yup same here, spent a while wondering how a Mortal Kombat advertisement was the punchline. Maybe it was a joke about how Valve allows any old crap ports onto their system?

Anyhoo, just right click on comic and "open image in new tab" (chrome) "View Image" (Firefox) "Arrgle Bargle" (Internet Explorer)

Hah, I was actually thinking something similar. Just about every games journalist in the business was writing his articles and recording his podcasts on why Valve should get rid of this system for dozens of reasons...but then Valve pulls it before they even get a chance to publish. Ouch.

On another note, this comic should have been a column. The pictures add nothing to the joke, so instead we've got something between a written piece and a webcomic. That would also give you a chance to elaborate instead of forcing it into the confines of text bubbles. I'm mostly parroting what everyone has said these past few weeks here, but it's still true.

Its funny because most people on The Escapist can't find FFN's Snark.

....

Part of me was hoping the paid game mods thing was permanent so maybe something like GOG could come in & look metaphorically like PS4 compared to Steam's Xbox One.

Since I always complain about "too many words/pictures do not work" whenever I comment here I'll drop the "brevity is the soul of wit" thing in favour of something nicer.

Holding a nerf gun to one's own head, and the STOP BEING REASONABLE sign were decent uses of your visual medium. Try to expand on that for further success.

Well it's nice Valve decided not go along with it.
But i still have to ask, who was insane enough to actually come up with it?

The amount of IP and Copyright issues involved is staggering, even before you start going into people fraudulently uploading other peoples mods as their own.

A week, you say? Make it a month just so that we can clear all of the snark-esque bases over time!

But seriously, imagine if this only lasted for a few hours... The snark would most definitely be focused on how it should have been longer because, at that point, it would seem like they're all talking utter nonsense and shit...

I'm actually beginning to find the constant "too many words" comments to be a part of this webcomic's charm.

OT: I'm honestly glad they pulled it as quickly as it did. The precedent the community set was a good one. For the last 10 years gamers have been bending over to get gratefully reamed by greedy games publishers but for once we actually stood up to them and drew a line in the sand.

I'm just worried that they're planning on pulling a Door in the Face [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Door-in-the-face_technique] on us in the near future.

The good news is that Valve actually has a system in place to step in and correct egregious behavior.

The bad news is that said system apparently consists entirely of Gabe Newell.

Why not to put it in a what if scenario or an alternate universe?

PS: Great one, man!

This one had me smirk. :)
Perhaps there's more to these commentary strips (as opposed to the parody ones), after all.

A Nerf Maverick? Get with the times, grandpa. Should have been a Hammershot, or maybe a Doublestrike if you need something concealable.

Anyhoo, yeah, this whole issue was pretty messed up. I don't think the idea of people being able to sell mods is inherently a bad one, but I do think Valve handled it quite badly. So kudos for admitting their mistake, I guess?

FFN have been around for a looong time, and have been around for so long because of their clear success and large fanbase. Criticism is always nice - but I sincerely hope that you do not believe that in order for them to be successful, that your current criticism is relevant, as they have already found their success using their own unique style.

Just remember that not everyone shares the same tastes. Many of us really do enjoy textual dry-wit. Hell - look at one of the most popular web-comics out there: xkcd

Don't hold the Nerf Maverick Revolver that close to your head! The dart will jam, and the Rev-6 is the hardest gun of the N-Strike line to unjam. The clip-loading guns make it so much easier.

The mavericks kinda more iconic depending on your fandom given its (A) pretty easily modded into a steampunk themed gun for cosplay and (B) was the basis for a pretty awesome Megatron toy in 2006.

Don't think I'd go as far as saying it was an "awesome" Megatron toy. But then, Megatron never seems to get a figure as good as Prime.

I'm under no illusion as to how long FFN has been going on. I know it has been around for a long time and has plenty of fans. That doesn't mean me thinking they have too much text on the panels, and make too little use of all the visual aids a comic provides, is irrelevant at all.

Just keep in mind that there is a difference between constructive criticism, and imposing one's own perspective onto others. FFN have always found success by utilizing the humour seen even today in the present, as seen with this comic - you saying that they would be more successful by going an entirely different direction, leans more towards the imposing spectrum of debate.

And I reiterate: this is a popular medium of humour, that will not be for everyone. xkcd is still my go-to example as to how this humour is some of the most popular amongst the web-comic community.

Of course, everyone is entitled to their opinion(s). Personally, I would suggest a different tact, is all, as it is a bit insulting to suggest that they change what they have been doing for years, all because a few people do not understand/appreciate textual dry-wit, and attribute said change(s) to actual success (as if they are not already successful enough).
