As I'm sure we're all aware of dressing up in character costumes that look very homemade but had some genuine effort behind them has spread in recent years from being small time things done by alpha geeks at Star Trek conventions to whole passtimes supported by many at almost every major gathering involving games and pop culture alike.
Personally I've never been to a convention but have always been a major fan of gaming, films and in fact dressing up (I fucking LOVE wearing and making costumes. Back when I was growing up putting the old ratty clothes from the old ratty clothes box on, making up characters and putting on devised performances for mum and dad was something me, my sister and our friends frequently did. It's because of that old passion that I've been a part of almost every school theatre type group since I started my education.) and there's been rising interest amongst me and my mates concerning a rather large convention they host in Sydney each year called Supernova that covers gaming, movies, oh-taco treats (With them Jappynese comic books and cartoons), comics and basically everything that could make an acne-riddled geek orgasm.
Seeing as there's huge potential of us actually getting the dosh together to go down there this year I've been humming and harring about well, going there dressed up. And from what I've seen on the escapist and most of the internet is that there are many people who are both passionate cosplayers and eager to give advice.
I'm 14 going on 15 and if I were to go there in costume I'd love to go as a half-life 2 member of resistance in honour of my favourite game. So is cosplaying worth it? Are there any reccomendations when it comes to material? Considering my afforementoned circumstances is there any further advice people may shed?
