Could someone perhaps enlighten me to this?

Hello, it's Req again, sorry for the non-descriptive post but i didn't really know how to say it in my own words.

The thing is this, if someone opens a topic saying 'Jesus is Lord.' or anything relating to Christianity, people go ape shit about it, or even worse i've noticed, someone would say something relating to God in their posts and everything gets the flamethrowers ready.

Now i understand that people who don't want to hear about God obviously don't want to see it around the forums, that i understand, but then it seems to me a little imbalanced, if someone defends their faith in God everyone gangs up on them.

But on the contrary, anyone who opens up a thread saying why their belief in Aetheism is correct, or something against Christianty, no one really cares.

I'm not too clued up about this, but i remember a thread around here recently, it was about in some town somewhere (memory is fuzzy) someone printed on buses, 'There's probably no God, so go and enjoy your life.' and believed that whoever did that went a tad too far, the author of the thread, even said they were not a christian, but still everyone went off on how, 'No the Christians printed a website that liked to an article saying how they are going to hell.'

Now stop there. right there. 'Printed a website that linked to an article saying how they are going to hell.'

Doesn't that seem a little unfair to you? someone put a website on a bus to avoid imposing on others beliefs and upsetting people, nothing forced people to go to the website. But someone went to the website (by their own choice) and got upset about it an suddenly it made it alright to print anti-christian statements across buses and the rest?

Please enlighten me as to whats going on, why people get upset when someone mentions God, but it's okay to state anti-theism statements, or any views and the rest, but please.

Don't get into arguments about this. Say your say and leave it be, question each others views if you want, but i don't want this to become a fighting thread because of imposing views.

If someones views are not the same as yours. Deal with it.

People are fucking morons who enjoy arguing with the rest of the bandwagon. Many of us don't necessarily hate either view.

I find it's largely those who are very uptight, take everything personally, and feel very strongly about all their opinions that cause all the ruckus, with a few bandwagon members backing them up.

Nerds enjoy feeling like they're in control in online debates, and with the anonymity of forums, they can have that experience the rush of being "Honest+1" by stating their belief and "OMG how could u belaive anything else???"

Because they get pushed around IRL.

Two tears in a bucket.

This applies mostly to the less mature, ego-masturbating types. Some douchebags is douchebags regardless of religious affiliation.

Some people do feel to strongly about everything. This may or may not be relative to the topic, but I grew up in a sothern town (southern US, unfortunatly) and I was the ONLY aethiest in town. A big babtist kid felt like me not believing what he did was an afront to him. I nearly got the shit beat outta me and I'd only ever expressed my religion once. XD It's funny, thinking back now.

The only people who make posts about religion on forums are trolls trying to start flame wars.

You know the saying that we were all created in gods image? I'd love that to be true. Imagine meeting god. How confusing would that be.

Also I dont hate religion. I'm totaly fine in people believing in heaven. I's kinda like keeping your hopes up in desperate times. Like when a boats sinking or something everyone try's to stay positive. I think some people need that to get through the day (i know i do sometimes).

What I personly dont like is The Institution (hope thats spelt right) of religion i.e. The Churchs or the Eldars or the Pope etc. If gods some omnipotent being that see's all and hears all why cant i make like a muslim (slightly off colour joke) and pray were ever i dam well want to.

You can hate people or like people it wont change a thing. Personly I'm taking a life boat as far away from everyone elses arguing.

I read the first three lines of that and was more confused than watching the entirety of the MSG4 cutscenes all put together.
Still though I don't think it is any of our business/job to blast an airhorn in his ear because of it.

Religion threads really aren't very welcome in this place. The reason is because a religious discussion almost always turns into a flame war very quickly. Mostly due to people pushing their beliefs on others or saying that the other person's opinion is false but theirs are true.

This is a game site so people are not happy with the religious right about the game bashing they have done in the past.

That's one reason but the second and more prevalent in my opinion is the fact that this is an American site and the Christian Right has had a rather disastrous influence in America the last eight years so people are still a bit peeved about the two wars and recession.

Now the Christian Right is not responsible for what happened but Bush cow towed so much to them that his failings as a president washes up on them just by association.

American opinion tends to go through some radical shifts from time to time and we are in one right now so flamewars and violent mass shootings will be common for the time being.

Good night, good luck and duck!

The reasons why the subject of God is hated:

1. It brings up the idea that there is a higher power that one must be accountable to. Athiest's hate this concept more than any other.

2. Religious people in the past, present, and future, will continue to be human. In spite of this, it is considered idiotic/insulting/hypocritical or whatever other word you care to insert, for any Christian to fall short of their own religion's idea's and concepts. This hatred toward a flawed person typically extends only to monotheistic religions, Christians in particular. See reason one for why only monotheistic religions.

3. There are religious extremeists, these people, flawed like the rest of humanity, take the message of their respective religious text and twist it. ie suicide bombers, anyone who stands on the sidewalk with signs telling everyone that they are going to hell, abortion clinic bombers.

4. Society says if you are Christian, Jew, or Muslim you are the most stupid, ignorant, lying, hateful, and hypocritical people to ever be on the face of the earth, all wars are your fault, all science and everything good in the world was created by Athiest's, and damn you for disagreeing with that. oh, and all other religions are just silly hobbies, they aren't all that bad, and no real harm comes to people who participate in them. ( Unless of course, you are a hardcore Athiest, in which case, ALL religious people should be exterminated)

Incidentally, these aren't my words. They're yours. This list is comprised exclusively from rewording the posts of athiests and anti-religious types.

In name, I am a Christian (Nazarene). I believe that there is one god, and that he gave his only son to die for our sins. That's it.
The fallacy with religion is that it is completely ideological. There are so many variations to every religion, that it's hard to keep track of them all. The problem starts when an individual in a thread proclaims their faith, in any way, shape, or form. Someone else doesn't like that (atheist or not) and decides to force their own beliefs on them, rather than have a civilized debate. Humankind has not yet learned to have civilized, respectful debates on religious topics, at least not on internet forums. It is for that reason I don't think they should be allowed here. As Xyphon said, they always turn into a flame war.

I'm going to quote the buddha, and say that people with opinions just go around bothering each other. Atheists don't like the fact that christians impose on them (and it's ALWAYS christians) and christians feel like everybody else is out to stamp them out. Neither of which is true, though secretly they would both like it to be so. They're looking for reasons to justify themselves and when a group comes along that poses a challenge to them they feel they have to rise to meet it. This is why there is a constant "flame war" between the two. The truth is, the only reason people perceive one as being more acceptable then the other, i.e. anti-theism vs theism is because one seems to make more sense to people, regardless of whether or not it's true. People tend to accept the more logical answers as being the truth, and it doesn't help that there are plenty of religious zealots out there who get frothy mouth and wide eyed at the very mention of an antheist. But then again the reverse is also true. The bottom line is people need to just learn to try and accept one's right to believe what they want, regardless of whether or not they agree with it.

I'd say it's part dickishness, part bullheadedness, and part argumentative nature. Most people have issue with the fact that their interpretation might be wrong, which leads to a old fashioned throwdown of egotistical demands.

On a side note, in the same concept, the idea of heaven or paradise changes for each person, as does the concept of Hell, and the image of God, whether they believe in Him or not. I'd say that's a good an origin as any for this particular argument.
