No because I don't know a thing about programming or graphic design...I'm more of a idea guy

no. my mind lends great for an incredibly original insane story, however, my programming skills are lackluster right now, im getting much better though, soon they will be good. also my modeling skills, while getting better, arent up to par for the animation and modeling in modern video games, though i did just learn character modeling. im not great at it yet though.

EDIT: I could easily make a text based adventure game though

everyones mind gets clustered by ideas (i think).
just having ideas does not mean you can make a good functioning game.

it infact means you can be the DM in a text adventure.

Could u make better games then anyone in the world? I think I could because my mind comes up with endless ideas. So tell me if u think u have what it takes.
No, I couldn't. But I certainly could write "you" properly.
[SUB]Sorry, I just had to. I haven't grammar nazi'd anyone today you know..[/SUB]

But seriously, the term "The best game in the world" is very variable though, since everyone's got their own tastes, maybe I could've made a game for someone that was in their eyes "The world's best game" but certainly not in everybodies eyes.

I'm convinced I could fix the Silent Hill series and make it "crap your pants" terrifying. I have thought up numerous ways to make the game more frightening and have a very immersive story with plenty of unexpected twists. It wasn't an epiphany where I suddenly come up with ideas. But, rather, a series of long thoughts. Go me.

I was totally expecting a troll thread for no other reason than that the OP couldn't be bothered to spell "you" correctly. "Could u make better games? No? THEN STOP BITCHING ABOUT HALF-LIFE 3 NOT BEING HERE YET." Or something like that.

On topic, though:

Programming: Hell no.
Story: Yeah, not happening either.
Concept art: Can't draw for shit unless XKCD decides to make a Flash game.
Level design: Probably.
Character design: Maybe.
Mechanics and balance: I like to think so.
Marketing: Possibly.

Overall: Better sign on someone else.

Probably not. I mean, ideas aren't even a quarter of what's needed.

I can't even get my head around modding yet.

To everyone who thinks they can make the best videogame in the world just because they've got a cool idea in their heads...

No i couldn't, and neither could most people posting here i'd imagine.

Level design is a *****, most people don't realize how much it takes to design a level well. No really you have no idea.

Then you have programming, again that's seriously bloody hard. Making sure everything works really well and nothing is buggy. Everything has to work together smoothly, you're fine tuning the gameplay here.

Then you have the graphic design. Even SNES graphics are really hard to make without creativity. Then you're getting into character design and creating an atmosphere which can be difficult at times too. Animating too, that's even worse! Especially animating characters facial expressions and stuff.

Scripting well and applying a story is a massive part of most games, i can't comment on that because of my bad english skills but for me this would be hellish xD

Then tons of audio design, sound effects, music and if you dare there's voice acting too.

So i've brushed the surface of game development, i'm sure everyone that said yes is feeling just as confident >;D

Personally i'm hoping to get into programming, but i do a lot of reading into level design too.

I'm way, way better at criticism than I am at creating things.
So in a way, I could make games better by ragging at its makers.
For example: Mass Effect 2. Tedius, mindless orbital mining? Scrap that shit. Voila, better game.

Yes, but not with programming. They say its easy to write...but then why the hell are so many games filled with horrible, horrible dialogue/events? it can't be THAT easy.

I, and a group of people, are in the middle of attempting to do so. And I can program. So, we shall see.

The people who work on games for a living are trained professionals. Meaning they know how to make a game. They know how to make the game look good. They know how to make the game interesting. And perhaps most importantly of all, they know how to spell 'you' correctly. ;p

I doubt most of us would be able to do even one of those things right... [small]well, aside from that last one obviously...[/small]

Of course I can't. 99.999% of us who criticize games would make much crappier games if we were the CEO of a game development company.
QFT.

Most of us criticize developers when we don't even know how to make games ourselves, but I guess that's simply our job.

I'm pretty confident that I have the ability, since I'm planning on getting into writing stories for video games for a living, and HOPINNNNNNG to score an internship at Bioware. :O Maybe once I get high enough up in the industry, I could show someone the scripts I have for games. I think they're both interesting and marketable, if I do say so myself.

But for the life of me, I could not actually "build" a game from the ground up. I have absolutely no knowledge of computer programming, unfortunately.

Not better than everyone, but better than most (if you're into RTS and adventure games). And I am doing. So ask again in six months.

Also, ideas is not the bottleneck to creating good games. For every single idea you come up with, you then have years of tedious grind to create something out of it.

I could if I could code and draw :p

But besides ideas and themes the main trouble is patients, handle massive work load and work on time, its more drone work with controlled creativity than anythign else.

I suck at control >>
