Goddamnit. Every time the "do video games make people violent" debate might fucking calm down some twat has to go and shoot himself or someone else or stick a knife in someone's face and fuck it all up for another few years.
I hope he goes to jail and when he's in there for people who had REAL problems he can see how stupid he was.
Here's how I imagine the conversation will go -
Prisoner 1: "What are you in for?"
Stupid kid: "I stabbed a kid in the head."
Prisoner 1: "Wow. That's pretty brutal. What for?"
Stupid kid: "Well, he cheated in a video game."
Prisoner 1: "Oh. Umm... Well, I was born poor and therefore uncared for by a willfully ignorant government who tells their people that if you're poor it's because you're lazy. I saw the best and smartest of my community either spiritually broken or die hopeless and alone while the morally bankrupt seemed to thrive on all levels of society (in my own community all the way up to the highest reaches of world government) so I decided that was the best way to go. Because of my actions, many of my friends were killed, but by that time, I couldn't simply quit because too many people were hunting me in a self-fulfilling cyclical vortex of crime and retribution, so I tried to avenge all of those that were killed because of me, because, in that instance, that truly is the only path open to you. Honestly, I had realized my mistakes by the time that I had watched my best friend die in my arms, but, as I said, by that time it's too late. And, really, how could I go back to such destitution and poverty, especially in a community that claims to hate me for apparently making their lives worse? I really had nowhere to go, so I did the best I could and was honestly trying to take the first step to exit this incredibly complex and destructive situation."
Stupid kid: "Wow... your analysis of socioeconomic stratification across the globe really opens my eyes to how petty my problems at some goddamn internet cafe were."
