Everyone I know hates country The stuff that I've heard has sucked but I don't want to damn the whole genre just because of some bad songs that's why I'm asking. Some of the suggestions made are actually petty good though

Cliche answer but again the only country I can listen to is cash, the man has a darkness about him, his music is very raw and real.

For the record Hurt is a Nine Inch Nails song that Johnny Cash covered and misinterpreted as a religious song, when in fact its about Drug addiction. Johnny Cash has an abundance of original songs that are far better than the hurt cover. You should look into getting a Discography of his, his originals far outweigh his covers.

Actually Cash did have trouble with addiction at one point, that why it fits so well. I don't think he made it a religious song...

If you want an original song my favourite is probably 'give my love to Rose' or 'Folsom Prison Blues'...
