And for this you called it "the least dynamic game world I've seen"? This is the biggest problem with gamers - they always overexaggerate every little thing, as if that is the only way to get their point across.
And this is the biggest problem with forum-goers. Everything is a problem.

It was a hyperbole, although I do consider something like GTA IV or even Assassin's Creed to have a more dynamic world than Skyrim, if not solely for the fact that they at least hide the lines. On Skyrim you see the NPCs spawn in their fucking ready positions the moment you enter a town, it's depressing.
They might be spawning, they're not spawning in 'ready positions'. The game still tracks them when you're not in an instanced area, there's just no visual representation until you get in the area.

The only problem with Skyrim and it's dynamic claim is that after I unite the whole motherfucking nation (Via Civil War), not much seems to change. Same goes with all the factions.

That's my main complete. The factions are short and accomplish fuck all.

If they can fix that, the next game will be fantastic.

I agree. I think Skyrim was a big step forward (or just a marker for where open-world games are at this point) for making a digital ecosystem. Problem is, it takes so much to design and maintain something like that that I don't think any developers have an idea about how to make it respond to what you do in the game. I guess there are scripted ways to tackle this, like changing the layouts and populations of cities, or their political structures, but that sounds like a pretty tall order.

Guards will mention it in passing.
But that's not enough.
actually it is enough

Anything more wouldn't make sense within the context of the games setting.

Mastering the rhythm is my #1 moment that makes video games by far the most satisfying thing at times.

Whether it's a-teching in mario kart double dash, getting a AAA on DDR, a perfect on rhythm heaven or performing that 1 frame link on street fighter, it's just amazing when you do it.

Maybe it's because I am a piano player...

I disagree with the stuff he says about Skyrim, Skyrim is the least dynamic game world I've seen, everything is so scripted. I've said it elsewhere, but the game is fun up until the point you realise the world is waiting for you.. literally. Apart from that, good article.
Then, sadly, you haven't seen many other games. That giants and dragons thing David said should have been familiar to you. Way too many older games had that - all enemies target you, no matter what. It's like their only reason for existence is to fight you. And I'm talking about enemies that should hate each other. That's even going as far as them fighting until you make your appearance, at which point they drop their quarrels immediately and double team to take you down.

With this in mind, the giants fighting dragons is superb. I'm not saying Skyrim is perfect but neither did anybody else for that matter.
totally, agree, the bullets in mid air immediately[/] change directions and head right for you like they are blood brothers sworn to kill you for the motherland. That is one thing that has always frustrated me about games, hell, you could toss in a few movies and tv shows i'm sure into this lot.

OT: cracked has some funny articles, and alot of that stuff is true to a point (that f-zero video is amazing, i remember playing that game..*nostalgia sigh*)

still, i think there is a time and a place for alot of that stuff, i do appreciate my more linear games just as much as i appreciate stuff like skyrim, too much of either one is not a good thing.

Growing up with Crash Bandicoot is weird?

Never heard that one before.
That's what I was going to say!

As a wee boy, I remember the rampant joy that is Hog Wild:

oh god yes! that is amazing, i love the sound effects in crash bandicoot also

hitting 10+ boxes and hearing the apple sounds rack up for 30 seconds =

p.s. to anyone in here, did anyone ever manage to get ALL the apples on the boulder chase levels? god damn it seemed like that thing was breathing down my buttcrack even if i took the most direct path each time, let alone getting each apple/box.

Getting all the boxes in the boulder levels was easy.

Getting all the boxes in "Sunset Vista" and "Slippery Climb" was difficult.

i don't remember sunset vista, which game specifically was that from? but i'm almost positive i got nearly everything in slippery climb, maybe it was just me, but i nailed that one pretty quickly compared to a couple others.

"Sunset Vista" was from the first game.

It's this level...

Very irritating level.

...Why? The Emperor's dead. The land around us should decline somehow. Dirtier cities, maybe?
This makes even MORE sense if you side with the Imperials on the civil war.

Dirtier cities is just one idea. The first of many, and others are free to share thoughts.
Sadly, not a modder.

The best part about this article for me was it got me to finally buy the Humble Indie Bundle. Never got around to playing anything in the package. All I've gotten to play extensively is Bastion, and it's awesome! So I'm going to add a moment to the Cracked list:

The moment you realize indie developers are making games with just as much talent and imagination as AAA companies, but don't have to spend as much time appeasing investors with screenshots and press releases. Even something as simple as Super Meat Boy is dripping (?) with personality.
