Pretty sure that the sort of people involved in creating (marketing et al) this have nothing to do with actually making games.
Now, now. We all know that anyone can make a video game. Marketing departments, public relations, even the custodians.

So why hasn't episode 3 been released with all those janitors cleaning?!

Wow, all that from a green light and radio static? You can't say ValvE isn't creative. And while you're at it, you can't say ValvE fanboys aren't obsessive.

Though, I do hope for a Portal 2. The Vortigaunts picture means that not only will it be outside Aperture (kind of obvious, anyway) but that it fully confirms the connection between Half-Life and Portal. By the way, the second picture down on the center column could be Black Mesa. The lore says that Black Mesa was built underground in a complex resembling a missile silo, and the picture definitely looks like the outside of a missile silo.

i HATE when Valve expects us norms to understand all that geek things they put into games

naaa... not really, its just amazing and well thought, it blows my mind to see people discover those things

Well, the link goes to the right page, but the link text is off; it's steganography, not stenography. Encrypted messages, not shorthand. ;)

How people figure these things out is beyond me. I'm glad the internet is there to do the dirty work, because a lot of these leaps in logic just leave me going, "WTF?"

The fact that vortigaunts are in it makes me wonder if this might be a sort of Episode 3 update? What if it's an announcement that Portal 2 will tie into Episode 3, or even lead up to it

People are talking about vortigaunts, but personally I don't see it. They look too robotic for that to me, the one on the right has some oddly round parts, while the one on the left looks like it's holding a Portal Gun.

I thought up this slightly far-fetched theory.. Those things being more robots like the turrets, except much more advanced. The fact that the two robots resemble each other, yet the left one is missing a 'head', and the 'head' on the right one being all round and such makes me believe that it could be an AI core, more specifically Cave Johnson's, what with him putting his personality into an AI core to escape death. The fact that the robots are holding hands, and, if going with my theory, the left one is missing an AI core head, then makes me believe that the other one could be GLaDOS.
Cave is pretty crazy, what with his weird ideas from shower curtain portals to witchcraft-hate, and GLaDOS doesn't seems like the most normal around, so they feel oddly fitting together, and the fact that GLaDOS actually has a PERSONALITY in the AI cores could hint at her being based on an actual woman. Perhaps both Cave and the original GLaDOS were a couple, but shit got crazy and AI-GLaDOS was left in the Aperture labs, while AI-Cave ended up on the Borealis, trying to communicate to GLaDOS (or anybody/somebody else for that sake) using the morse code and the SSTV images.

.... :V far-fetched, perhaps, but it COULD happen. Only time (and Valve) will tell~

Either that or it hints that we'll be meeting WALKING turrets carrying portal guns.
Which would be an awesome enemy to try fighting against. U:

Whaaa? I know some Gregg and I felt all important there for a second and you made me feel bad.:)

But yeah, that was bugging me too.

I'd like to see the message board threads in which people figure out this stuff. Who's the guy who says "Hey, that sounds like a BBS handshake! Let me go dig Kermit out." and then most people ask what the frog's got to do with it, while a small group are asking "How old are you?"....

Although that composite image is missing one; a picture of two of the simply drawn portal characters as seen in the trailers standing in a room that contains what appears to be a baby's crib.

Its look like the code Morse translation is "Portal Life Is Coming Gordon Is Next"
and in the pictures you can see the letters
B.dv = 3
D8.a = L
I.cV = H
which mean HL3

I'm calling it now. Ep 3 and Portal 2 are one and the same.
Mostly seconded. I mean, Episode 3 is scheduled to take place at the Aperture portal-boat-gone-wrong. So what's Portal 2 going to be about, completely unrelated shenanigans at the somewhat destroyed main lab? No, there's going to be strong connections, and I bet they both take place at the boat. Gordon's going to interact at least one portal in there, haha.

I don't have *quite* enough faith to say that they'll be the same game, but I do expect them to launch simultaneously in a discounted bundle. The infrared box or somesuch.

Mark my words, though: the next meme will involve "portholes".

If Valve is clever they'll drop off the "cake is a lie" thing and replace it with a new internet sensation for people to exploit.
Although, why fix something that isn't broken?

Im starting to think its gonna be the next duke nukem forever. The funny thing is, IF it comes out, it will probably be like 4 hours long and have no closure to the story what so ever.
At least valve will make sure it is the best 4 hours of your life :).

Heh, apparently, according to the update, it wasn't steganography either. Oops.

Now I'm feeling old. I just realized I haven't even used a modem since before my first son was born. (When was the last time you had to deal with "parity, data, and stop bits"?)

Except for the bit about SSTV (which I hadn't heard of before today), everything in the update I've actually heard of and know how to do. Not that I would've ever figured out how to put it all together, figure out what's "signal" and what's "noise", and get the answers out.

Most awesome way to hint at a game's release ever. Obviously a lot of thought went into making this puzzle.

yesyesyes.

When I saw Valve were exhibiting at GDC, I was wondering what they would show off, considering they had nothing significant scheduled to come out. Now it seems they have something to show, even if I have no idea what it is.

I can see an intertwined narrative happening stuff will happen in one and only be aparent why after playing the other or some crazy shit like that

I would trade L4D2 and portal 2 for Half Life 2 episode 3 any day.

and what the hey lets throw in TF2 as well.
