Credits in Videogames?

Credits in videogames. I've noticed that I go make a sandwich or something when the credits start rolling. I got sick of looking at the names of every localization team for every region the game was released in. I like credits that offer something (Prince of Persia, although the game didn't preform to my expectations), or credits that aren't mandatory. The question is, what do you guys think? Is it necessary to watch 10 minutes worth of credits at the end of a game you've just beaten? Are credits ok as they are, or could they be fixed in some way to make it more bearable on gamers?

The credits are only mandatory if they add in something worth watching or something that can be controled. Take for instance the end credits of Assassins Creed II or Super Mario Galaxy 2 or this one...

There are occasions where I actually enjoy the credits sequence of the game I'm playing. Sometimes it's because the music is awesome (Spider-Man 1 movie game, Borderlands), other times it's because they're presented in a visually interesting way (Super Street Fighter IV, Super Smash Bros).

Apart from this, I don't think there's any to improve on the credits sequence, per se, any more than there's a way to improve on company logos. They could spruce them up a little, throw in a nice soundtrack, but that's really it.

For me, end credits bring closure. When they start rolling I know for sure the game is all over.

...

Then I'd like to be able to skip them OO.

I don't even know who makes or produces most games, so knowing who is in each team just sends me to lala land.

I love films more than games, I don't even watch them credits or know who directed some of even the most famous films around.

Why would I care? I bought there product, I help pay there wages nothing more to it, I don't know the name of the bus driver or checkout person at the shop, so why should I care that they helped entertain me?

It's nice to see whatever the makers put into the credits, like a little movie or extra gameplay like in DMC3, but I really do wish I could skip them.

Seriously, I've never once payed any attention to the credits in games unless I'm looking for a particular voice actor but then, I could just go to the interwebz for that.

If there's extras (Modern Warfare 1's rap, Smash Bro's stuff, that kind of thing), then I'm pretty cool with them myself. But if there's no real reason, I tend to (like I said) go make a sandwich or something. This kind of question intrigued me, since there's so many different responses, and since no answer is a wrong one.

So the people who worked to create the thing you just enjoyed don't deserve a couple minutes of your time to listen to music and watch their names float up the screen, with a possible background animation?

Man, the best credits ever were the credits in Super Smash Bros Melee. It was fun getting to try and shoot as many as you could. Most of the time though, I just go off to do something else while the credits roll. I would skip them, but I'm always worried that there'll be some little something that I'll miss if I do. So, I go mess around on the computer, and then if I hear the music end and what sounds like an extra cut scene or something then I start paying attention again.

Sounds to me like you've got a good process of dealing with the credits. I'd like to see some little cinematic or something to make it more entertaining, maybe a recap, but credits are there, so we must deal with it.

I enjoy the interactive ones. But I always watch them to get that lovely feeling of closure.

There is no reason for most video games to have credits. Credits exist in the movies for the benefit of filmmakers, so that they can say "wow, whoever did the lighting in this movie was amazing ? I'd like to have them work on my next project!" That doesn't happen in the video game industry. All that video game credits are is a resource for headhunters.

I can see the attraction for independent or amateur games, however.

I agree with the fact that if credits add something to the end-game, closure, maybe some form of entertainment (Guitar Hero 3's Through the Fire and Flames, Call of Duty 4's rap, Smash Bro's minigame type credits, that sort of thing), then I'm more likely to watch and to care. I would rather have that than sitting thorough minutes upon minutes of localization. Admittedly, I do prefer mandatory credits to either of these. And speaking of credits in videogames, Left 4 Dead's statistics are a delightful change from the usual in terms of credits. I saw 'em and thought "Oh no, credits... and I have 3 more campaigns to play after this one." and then I noticed that they were actually statistics.

Credits are credits. They mark the end of the game, and are amusing on rare occasions. I usually sit through a couple of minutes.

while i always let the credits role, ill pat attention, if they have a good song. Something after the credits, or a little thing going on while the credits are rolling.

My main complaint is when there's like 20 different localization teams that they roll. I think that it really doesn't matter to me who translated the game for China, Ukraine, wherever. (Although I'd kind of be interested to know who translated Zero Wing into English, if only so I could have someone to blame for "All your bases are belong to us." line.)

Really, really good games i have no problem sitting through.

Kingdom Hearts one and two in specific. On the hardest difficulty the end boss fights can be bitter struggles to the end with the enemy being able to usually three shot you even while capped. After dukeing it out with the final bosses, and watching probably two of the most epic end game cinematics I have ever seen, the credits roll with the most best suited music possible.

Scenes roll on the screen showing little clips of how your exploits in different worlds have changed them for the better and you reflect on all the time you spent playing. The credits finish rolling, you watch the special movie you get for beating the game on hard mode, and your score pops up set to the tune of very calming music.

You take a deep breath and smile. You won the game.

Yes, i watch the credits every time, I enjoy the music and i reflect on my time spent.

Maybe if all end game credits were as jaw dropping and games were as mind blowingly awesome credits would be more appealing.

They already have my money?

And the Hungarian localization spell checking software providing company's team's legal representative's assistant manager coordinator was somehow vital to the creation of the main game?

I have nothing against Hungarians, this is just an example.

I remember beating the final boss of the first Fable game like 20 times before I found out the only way to continue afterwards is to wait through 30 minutes of credits...it was horrible, I went, watch 2 tv shows and they were STILL fucking running
