The credits at the end of Super Mario Land 1 were pretty sweet, thanks to the good music. Otherwise they're pretty annoying.

The credits are not in the game for your sake. They are in the game for the developer's sake. With game companies going belly up or bought and reorganized very frequently, proving you were responsible for part of the development of game X is very difficult. Giving your former employer's phone or email is not very useful if it doesn?t exist anymore. Anyone could lie on their resume, but handing your future employer a copy of a published game and telling them to look at time frame 3:25 of the credits screen gives you much more credibility.

Also let us not forget the ego stroking that makes crunch mode worth it. Spending 3 seconds looking at some one's name is the least you can do for some one who spent 18 months of their life behind a computer for 10 hours of your entertainment.

For me, end credits bring closure. When they start rolling I know for sure the game is all over.

...

Then I'd like to be able to skip them OO.
Ever play Metal Gear Solid 4? That shit was not over when the credits started rolling. Not by a long shot.

I love credits, let's you know who you should thank or blame for what..though DMC's are probably the best. They are interactive, and have a bonus ending if you beat them. =D

What I want to know is why are instruction manuals more credits than actual instructions.

the Fable credits were fun to watch imo. - "amount of food orderd" and "babies born" were some of the things that made it fun.

So the people who worked to create the thing you just enjoyed don't deserve a couple minutes of your time to listen to music and watch their names float up the screen, with a possible background animation?
They already have my money?

And the Hungarian localization spell checking software providing company's team's legal representative's assistant manager coordinator was somehow vital to the creation of the main game?

I have nothing against Hungarians, this is just an example.
If they were involved in making it they're in the credits. I guess they just want people to know who made the game they just played. I guess they shouldn't expect much from people who don't care as long as they get to have fun.

The credit aren't necessarily for us, but credit need to be given where it's due, because these peoples careers are somewhat dependant on it. I never watch the credits in a movie, but the people involved in the film industry definitely do.

And as for the length of credits, I will always let them play. I don't have to watch them, hell my tv doesnt even have to be on while they're running. But ever since MGS I will never ever skip through them, cause you never know what's going to be at the end of them.

If I really enjoy a game I feel it necessary to view the credits and see the names of those who have made my experience joyful and exhilarating.

Thus far I think I have done it with 2 games. Warcraft 3, Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne and ME1.

And the testers of the game..... Normally testers get squat all for the finished project even though out of everyone involved in production they pull the longest shifts and clock up the most hours its nice to have SOMETHING even if its a tiny bit of text in the end credits with your name on -_-

I watch the credits, only if there's something good at the end or it's entertaining. Mostly the mario games have pretty good credits, but just once I'd like the end video to be Mario doing the mario.

I especially liked the ending credits of both the original Call of Duty and Call of Duty - United Offensive

I thought the ones for Super Monkey Ball were good fun. They are the only ones that I have consciously "seen" several times without skipping, mainly because they are presented as a bonus level where you have to pick up as many bananas as possible without hitting any of the names that fall on to the track. It was a good idea, it really made you dread some of the really long names which would almost block the entire screen. that said I don't think that I remember a single one...

I'll watch the credits if I thoroughly enjoyed the game. If not, I won't give it the time. It's sort of a way of thanking developers for the hard work.

I enjoy the interactive ones. But I always watch them to get that lovely feeling of closure.
This. Especially if the ending was intense or epic.

EG the last couple of games I remember sitting through the whole credits for are Killzone 2, Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption.

I don't know if Call of Duty: World at War counts, since I was already prepared to smash some Undead Fascists. <_<

Personally I'm undecided. OK, so it's a little dull to be scrolling through the names of the localization teams, QA testers and production babies but I think it's these very things that prove that the credits aren't really for us. They're there so that the people who spent such a long time making that game can be proud. When a friend or family member plays the game in their presence they can point out their name with a smile and say "That's me! That's my name!" I'm sure that effect wears off after a few titles but it's still nice to see your name on something you were a part of. Besides this, I also like to see who was responsible for certain aspects of the game. If the game had great art I like to see who the lead artist was, if it had great voice acting I like to see who performed it. Many aren't into doing that but for me it's a silent little nod of thanks to that individual or team for making the experience I just finished a great one.

On the other hand, it is boring as hell to sit through a black screen with a bunch of names on it while a song you don't necessarily like plays in the background and for me, the CoD4 rap was excruciating in a non-funny kinda way. In the Metal Gear titles I tended to get quite annoyed as I knew there was a short scene coming after the credits but I couldn't skip the credits to watch it and they were so damn long! I often take this opportunity to use the bathroom, grab a snack or drink or do something else while I'm waiting but there have been occasions where I've returned to find the scene already underway or plain finished. That's frustrating as hell when you've spent so many hours completing the game and miss out on it, whether it's important or not.

It's really a question of taste and personal opinion in the end but I for one would like to see animations or mini-games during credits for games that have something to iffer after they've run or simply the ability to skip them and view them any time if I choose to.

Well that's my two cents...
