Seems like opening the map would be one of the things one does during game testing...
So it’s not when you open the map that it crashes but when you pan while moving the cursor. If you’re zoomed out far enough then moving the cursor won’t pan the map around so no crashes. I had none cause for the longest time I was all the way zoomed out but this map is massive so for smaller areas you do eventually zoom in.

Played a couple of hours, I imagine AI was pretty heavily involved in more than just generating picture, a lot of dialogue sounds just a bit weird (although that could be translation issue).

For now it feel like an amazing game that someone intentional tried to sink. Like the control are kinda shit and could probably be fixed without too much trouble (why is running not on pushing a stick? Why is a game with such a busy control scheme wasting a precious button on changing camera position?), but you can't change them. There's a lot that really doesn't need to be in the game, like apparently there's two other playable character, why bother with that?

But atmosphere is A+, running around and finding little stuff is a ton of fun, most thing you discover by just talking to random people in town (there's a small white dot on the map to denote people who have interesting rumor). Combat should be pretty good, it works so so now because of the control, but it should improve with familiarity.

The other two playable chars have their own entire unique movesets, weapon types and skills. They’re totally worth it.

This game is the new Cyberpunk 2077. It's crappy in the beginning and at release, it will became amazing a few years from now.

Weirdly enough, what I enjoy most about this is the... tactility of it. Overly fiddly as it is, you let me interact physically with mystical ancient magitech devices, I soyface. Maybe I'm just a manchild who still giggles when I get to put a square piece into a square hole like a baby, it makes a satisfying "thunk" and stuff happens, but somehow I can't get enough of that. Just did the quest at the Institute and the Abyss section afterwards and I hope that means I finally get to explore the Abyss more.

Turns out those AI paintings were an oversight after all. They’ll be fixing em.

@PsychedelicDiamond has praised a modern game before. Unless you're strictly talking AAA only, but still, he has done that too.

I am still not interested, even after learning the generative AI stuff is a "place holder". I am already sick of that excuse. Either don't mess with that shit, or be honest to begin with.

Despite my issues, I'll be sticking with Rushing Beat X, RE9, and Romeo Is A Dead Man. My issues are mainly with RBX, but at least it's a game made by a team who cares about what they're making, and did their best. Even though I disagree with several design choices. It at least have a look which stands out, even when looking cheap in some areas like a really early XBLA game.

iirc that was ai generated, I supposed its relevant with the ongoing ai controversy.

Played a bit more... or maybe not? I mostly progress abyss stuff, after having to look up how to do one cause you have to do something the game never told you was possible.

Overall I'm starting to think that the poor story is kinda an advantages of the game, like its not really interesting, but at least its non invasive and doesn't interfere with you just going around screwing around. Kliff has so little personality, its strange that he's not customizable has a character, I don't care cause I never use them, but I'm surprised they made that choice.

Whatever, just wash your hands.

It might be photoshopped but not ai. I don't see any of the telltale tells for an ai generated image.

New patch is out, fixing a ton of bugs like the map crashing issue and adding storage in your campsite.

Very quick response.

Everytime I play the game, I can't help but think of all the systems I am engaging with and how those systems are better in other games, but with the added bonus of dogshit controls.

Solving a puzzle in the world, Zelda Breath of the Wild does it better.
The Story, fuck everything is better but let's call it The Witcher 3.
Combat, could be playing Batman Arkham games, or Shadow of Mordor, or a Souls game, or fucking Pac-man.
All this fucking loot and inventory management, well Resident Evil has a new game that I heard is pretty good.

I get the big feeling in that Crimson Desert was very much supposed to be an MMO, but for some reason they decided not to complete with BDO which makes sense, but this is an MMO that's single player only.

After 23 hours, I can't anymore. I just find the game frustrating to play at this point because while it has a ton of shit to do, none of those things are actually fun imo they're just have baked things put into place for the sake of them being there and not for the sake of making a cohesive world and story to experience.

Unless I'm mistaken, that's pretty much how the game's development went. However, I don't know at what point in development they made the switch from MMO to Single Player Offline.

Well, I got the game at launch so based on the TOTALLY NON-BIASED opinion of a Korean dude living in Seattle, playing a game made by a Korean studio, you guys can decide for yourself on whether to get this game. 14 hours in, btw.

The first thing that you will immediately be hit with is just how breathtaking this game is, while not having any performance issues. On my rtx 3080 and i7-15700k, on DLSS 4 Performance mode, the game stayed at constant 60 fps. And there are lot of moments where so many different things are happening at once, you expect your PC to have a seizure, yet no performance issue.

As for the gameplay….. Oh boy, this is hard to explain.

Overall, it’s a mechanically-complex sandbox experience, where you can pretty much do whatever you want. However, it comes at a cost of unfriendly UI, confusing controls, and combat system where you perform wrong type of attacks instead of a super move, or vice versa.

Essentially, it has many of the mechanics that you can find in just about every open-world games, but unlike Highguard that decided to copy-paste the most annoying/worst part of hero-shooters, CD only takes in the good/fun part of the open world games.

For example, fast-travel points are spaced out, and in no way next to each other. You actually have to travel quite a bit, taking in the beautiful sceneries while doing so, until you come across the next available point. There are also some bounty hunt quests that has you walk quite the distance to get the objective, and bring them back to the quest giver the old traditional way.

Another good example of what this game excels at is the weapon system. They give you plenty of weapon types to experiement with, including swrods, axes, hammers, two-handed swords, greathammers, spears, bow and arrow, pistol, and even a musket. I personally found spear to be my favorite, because it gave me some attack range, which became essential and certrain boss fights.

The thing that is going to be hit-or-miss for everyone is the lack of information, especially for the puzzles. The devs said this was intentional, as they wanted to see that era back where people online comes together to solve puzzles together. For the most part, I agree, as I hated seeing these constant handholdings and flat-out patronizing way of recent games telling us what the solution is supposed to be. But there are some puzzles that barely gives you any clues, or just some vague ones.

And that’s just for the puzzles; There are so many things the game’s in-game guide gives to the basic information, but doesn’t explain the details. I kinda gave up on the fishing minigame and just decided to catch them while swiming.

Here’s a major one that I just discovered; I'm one of those type of games who has to see the codex/encyclopedia of the game completely filled out.
Wild animals, things that I find out in the wild, or drops from bandits are all things that I can learn about without any negative repercussions.

But what about anything that is in-town? I.E. I see a farm with cows. I obviously know what a cow is, but how do I add it to my entry? when I get close to it, the only option is for me is to steal.

TURNS OUT, you have to get a special helmet called helm of knowledge. But not only that, you have to equip it, open the function menu to select the helmet, tap the button prompt and not holding them down, and then you enter scan mode to learn about object that you are looking at.

HOW TF was anyone supposed to figure out you need the stupid helm in the first place, on top of actually learning how to use it?

There are other playable characters, which I thought was great at first, as the main character, Kliff, is a boring individual. But I quickly found out she is just as boring. There are also downsides of having multiple character, because there are weapons types that are uniquely equipable for each of them, while having very little universal types. Kliff can’t use pistols and rifles, while Damiane can’t use bow and arrows.

This wouldn’t be so bad, had they not shared the same inventory space! The inventory space expansion is a reward for just about any quests, but god damn, it is stupid.

So yeah, I am constantly loving it and hating it at the same time. It honestly sort of reminds me of the first time I played Dark Souls, or Dragon’s Dogma 2 experience except not being as cryptic.

Aw, I'm not that much of a negative nancy. I like most games I play to some extent. Crimson Desert isn't even my favourite game of the year so far, that's still firmly Romeo is a Deadman.

It's the usual excuse. I'm kinda inclined to believe them, because the assets in question looked like they were created with a circa 2022-2023 era generator and all show up in a single building in a single quest early in the game. So I'm kinda ready to believe that they were created early in development and simply no one's given them a second look since then.

Still, it's frustrating. Like, the point of a placeholder should be that it immediately sticks out, so that that sort of thing doesn't happen.

At least they apologized and promised to change them and didn't just say "Yes we used AI, deal with it."

I don't think the Stellar Blade devs ever apologized fir the AI assets in their game or made any effort to replace them.

From everything you guys are saying I am glad I skipped this game. It seems you need to be a very specific type of player to enjoy it.
