She looks like Lilly from How I Met Your Mother in that 2006 panel.

Poor guys that grew up with Sega.

I love the Live & Learn reference in the comment at the bottom. Sadly, a lot of this is true, but Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 were pretty awesome. Sonic Unleashed levels weren't too bad either but they were exactly good. I've only gotten to play the demo of Sonic 4 but it seemed pretty good.

What's the poster next to the Masamune Shirow art? And is that Dominion Tank or just one of his poster arts?

Is it just me or did her eyes change shades of green in each panel? Probably just me, and great comic as always. Lets just hope after those wolves eat Sonic Team they don't start giving birth to terrible children.

I just think they tried to characterize a character too much. It's the same problem with Samus and Other M.

The 3D Sonic games do tend to be shoddily made, but I only think this of the 2006 Sonic the Hedgehog. Overall, the gameplay isn't horrible (except for that one).

It's when they gave what was essentially a heroic mime a voice. He now comes across as either too much "'tude" or not enough, or the other characters get in the way, or he steals their potential thunder. What was originally a moving painting with fun, fast-paced images became a terribly written newspaper comic riding the brake so to speak; and Archie's Sonic comic is also pretty absurd in my opinion.

To further illustrate my selfish, pig-headed opinions, I preferred "The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog" over "SaTAM" Sonic because the latter took itself waaaay too seriously. The former was hilarious, and really went with the absurdity of a talking hedgehog. It is the same with the games I think. Sonic is a funny animal that walks like a person. Not an action hero.

My opinions, natch.

REALLY BIG SNIP

Thank you for doing that! I found myself at a bizarre point in my life there where I wanted to read the point being made but just couldn't bring myself to get through that much text. And hey hey! Someone comes along and abbreviates it! Ta very much!

And good points all round.

Oh and to the guys wondering about real life blue hedgehogs...spray-paint! cheaper, faster and considerably less likely to end in world domination. It's finding someone to make the tiny little red shoes that you may struggle with...

The problem is in part competent design or lack thereof.

Sometimes game designers are out of touch with their fan base and have trouble of effectively separating signal from noise.

The gaming community is said to be very negative and some companies have negativity forums so they can more easily ignore it: this is a problem.

Designers say that they don't just want you to point out the problems, but also offer solutions. This results in longer posts (like mine) which are then frequently ignored.

Why are there arrogant designers who look down on their fans like this?

Dragon age 2 is a good example: it uses a pre-made protagonist instead of wider customization, even tough Saint's row 2 showed with their multiple lengthy script read by multiple voice actors that you don't need to do it that way.

The game turned out alright, but dragon age would have been much better had they listened better to the information they had asked for and even received.

Likewise sonic 3D could easily have been a great game, but the development team completely fucked it up.

So yeah, great comic and a Sonic 3D game would have worked with competent game design.

If you manage to make your writing shorter, you'll be read more and it'll be better for the games you comment on.
Oh, I see your point. To be honest I'm a horrible writer which is why I've given up on my dreams of becoming a published novelist. I simply don't have the control or thought processes to write that way.

What's more, I've found that being more concise and to the point usually doesn't help, especially on the internet. The reason being that people will try and make counter arguements, or say "yeah but", or just want more details. I typically wound up putting out the same amount of text (and they wind up reading as much) with shorter posts. I ramble, but at the same time I think it saves time if people read what I write.

I understand the problems, I've tried to correct them and find middle ground, but I'm just not wired that way.

When I write it tends to be in a very brief report-type form (like I did at work), or huge rambling masses of text. Maybe things will change, but I suspect it might have something to do with how messed up my head is (medically speaking).

Haha. It's true. Sonic back in the Genesis was fun, then Sonic 2006 was trash, but lately Sega is trying their best to revive Sonic to his fast running roots excluding what made the series worst.

Ah Sonic Fans. I wonder who got it worst, Sonic or Star Wars fans?
Sonic fans. Star Wars fans can MAYBE get something good.
Sonic fans get nothing good anymore except remakes of the good Sonic games.
