I try to tell people "This series is just world war II, in space." Then they rage at me about how it's not and it's an all original story line that's so inventive and if I just played it and appreciated it and loved it and wanted to marry it like they did maybe I'd finally see that I was wrong all along and...

No.

What? Do they not teach history in school anymore? Why can't these kids see this? Every time I run into these guys I have to pull out wikipedia and educate them myself. Now it's fine to love you some world war two in space. Just you know, be willing to admit it's world war two in space.

For evil I much prefer Necromancy Hitler vs. Stalin and his magic wand [http://dsss.be/hitler-vs-stalin/], guest starring Elmer Fudd as Lenin! Now with historically dubious captions!

Why is it I feel more sympathy for the Helghast, then I do for the ISA?

Oh. Because Rico is a douche.
Yeah, I've always viewed the Helghast as the rightful protagonists of Killzone. They may have the design of the Nazis, and some parallels, but whereas the Nazis are universally evil based on what happened in WW2, the Helghast have never commited the same level of atrocity. They invaded a planet that they were forcibly removed from in Killzone 1, that doesn't sound so bad to me. Then they got invaded and fought back. Again, not such a terrible thing to do.
But then Killzone 3 came along and had them creating tickers from Gears of War and doing human experiments, as if Guerilla were desperately trying to convince us that they've been bad all along. Instead of making me side with the ISA, it simply conflicted with my earlier view of an otherwise industrial and practical army so made me disconnect from the story.

Firstly: There is no good in war. Period.

Second: Russia was neutral in the war. The only reason they were considered allies is because they were fighting back the Germans. Who, you know, invaded them. Russia couldn't care less about the rest of us at that point.

Ok Ok I'll give you that...

Anyway the real reason why he became the next evil was that he was reluctant to let go of the "conquered" countries after the war...

I was all ready to put on my professor glasses, but it seems it won't be necessary. Eico did a nice job on his response and it seems you already understand a thing or two about Stalin. Also, I don't really see anyone as a bad guy simply because they're a communist I don't know why you threw that at me. I made no indication of having any such a viewpoint.

As for why Stalin was considered a bad guy it probably had more to do with little nitpicking points like the mass murder, the dictatorship and the ruthless expansionism. Hell at one point he and Hitler even tag-teamed poor Poland.

Don't forget they also have stahl and his evil private military company/factory and if video games have taught us anything is that PMC's and companies are the most evil thing out there.

I brought you a shinny apple professor in order to apologize... So you can now put down your spanking ruler and hear me out.

Before this gets out of hand, first two things. I wasn't attacking whomever posted the image of Killzone (if it was you then sorry). More like making a point in general. I mean el Che was supposed to be a doctor fighting for little things like Freedom and Equality, and he ended up commiting little nitpickings like Mass Murders and executions.

But really I'm going off track, my point was that Stalin was an ally (since there's no good in war) during World War 2 and since the whole point is that Killzone is basically WW2 in space... That would be a little historically incorrect... <<<(my point) I mean his (Stalin) mass murdering of Germans wouldn't count until the fall of the Iron curtain and mostly the Cold War. Before that it was frozen hungy Nazis. And if I don't recall it wrong... He came over to the allied side when Hitler screw him over...

Yeah, the whole "take over half the continent and enslave several countries and pretend it's saving them" was totally neutral.

Neutral would be leaving Poland after getting rid of Nazis. Not staying for picnic for almost 35 years. And then making everyone love their picnic, and kill en masse anything that said picnic wasn't nice or the bees were stinging them.

Okay, wow. Nice touch with the armbands, Atlus. Subtle.

Though I must ask why?
Actually, armbands are used in Japanese schools. If you watch Suzumiya Haruhi, she has an armband signifying her captaincy of the club. Also, certain groups, like hall monitors and stuff would have them.

Played it on coop with a friend, thought the same thing, the one guy in the council looked like Hitler, tried to make a bad Hitler impression, was not really funny. Its so ironic, use Nazis and everyone knows who to kill^^. The armbands are part of the uniform nazis used to wear in public, during processions and important events. God, this game is insane.

It's hard to defend people who kill other people for money. Especially when they regularly break the law or back stab the people who contract them on a regular basis if it's more valuable to do so.

Hmmm... I wouldn't say I'm exactly familiar with Japanese culture, so I wouldn't know. The first thing that automatically popped in my head seeing the red armband over the protagonist's dark clothes was the Nazi SS uniform. ^_^ It looked rather cool, mind.

EDIT: Talking about Hitler and Japan...
