Crying for a video game

But I think it's okay to cry at emotional moments in videogames. It shows that people actually have a heart, besides, a person isn't limited to crying at films only, are they?

when i meant wanting a game so badly, i meant more like wanting a game that's not out yet. or wanting a to play a game from your childhood just because it was fun but you can even remember it's name.
and yes, i do mean when things don't go your way(in games). Like in FFIII, the final boss. You get to the final stage of the last boss and he's almost dead, but then the last of your final characters Hp gets drained and you die. That kind of agonizing thing that can make a grown man cry from the shear impact of "close, but not close enough" type thing.

Almost... really close and yes it was about Final Fantasy 7. I think it's ok to cry at anything that's sad no matter what, nor do you have to worry about gender roles. To cry proves that you care. If you resist the urge to cry your just lying to yourself.

I see no problem with crying at a game. Some games have an extremely powerful story, which are intended to cause such emotion.

Me, I cried a bit during Shadow Hearts: Covenant (SH2), and got a bit choked up for FFX. That Shadow Hearts one really got me, though. That was some rough stuff. ;_;

1) Another example would be Warcraft 3. There wasn't anything there particularly original plot-wise, but it evoked all the great elements of a classic Greek tragedy, with betrayal, war and love. They did it very well, and some parts left me a bit sad.

Like most forms of Media VideoGames can easily spark off an emotional reaction, fear, sadness, anger, relief and mostly a sense of achievement.
The only people who love to slander video games are the type of people who claim to have never played a game.
Typically these people are the kind of idiot thaqt get emotional is their favourite housemate got evicted from Big Bullshi--Brother. Or get really sad when they can't afford their favourite pair of shoes, or get unjustly infuriated when they fail to bench press anything that isn't at least twice their own weight.

Let it be known i'm not saying that only simple people don't like games, because really some really simple people love them.
I'm just saying some of these people have no right to judge us for enjoying something that, in this day and age is created to invoke desired reactions.

So my answers?

Cried?: not at a game no, but i've certainly felt my fair share of sadness over a heart-wrenching ending (Especially SotC)
Is it okay?: I honestly say there is no problem with it at all.

1. Sorta. In Half-Life 2. I was extremely unhappy about killing my combine brethren. They all died. So ...so...badly. Even the death poses were hilarious. And sad. So very sad. I promised to avenge them! Avenge them all! That's why I want a mod where I can play as a metrocop that tries to kill Mr. Freeman.

With the advances in technology to create more realistic environments and more advanced ways of plot exposition, I think it won't be too long until games are credited as a valid form of art.

I almost cried at Shadow of the Colossus, and no, I don't think it's wrong. If people cry at movies, and over books, then it's perfectly FINE to cry over a game.

In summation, I have generally learned to stop talking about it as this only earns me a lot of ire from whatever community I'm posting on. However, I think there's a lot more maturity here. So I'm taking a chance that someone will actually have the benevolence to give a rat's ass.
