Before Crysis 2 came out a lot of PC fanboys were harping on how the graphics for the console version would be crappy and the game is going to suck etc. Some cried claiming... no sandbox mode I'll never buy it. Some individuals I have spoken to on Facebook claimed they wouldn't buy it because kanye was singing in one of the game trailers...

I just got finished opening up my copy and I must say... the aforementioned critics and cry babies were extremely wrong and pants on head retarded because this game rocks. You should play a judge a game on it's merits. Even if you or a little weary Game Fly is 10 bucks a month. There is no excuse for you not to play it.

The graphics are absolutely gorgeous. The open cinematic and cut scenes are more action packed and coherent than the entire Battle LA film. This game is what Battle for Los Angeles should have been only set in New York with a plausible plot/story line so far. As far as alien invasions go this game is doing it right. The controls are intuitive and the nano suit voice is pretty bad ass. (Raise you hand if you were expecting the auto-tuned alien voice in Battle LA that you heard in the trailer that was better then that movie)

No sandbox mode. From game reviews Crysis 1 was set on an island not a large metropolitan city so sand box + small island = plausible. sand box + huge city in ruins = pain in the ass to get around in. To you know how long it would take to produce a 3D model of NY city in it's entirety. They could do it but your computers would explode. The games price would double and cost twice as much if not more to produce that would yield a very good ROI.

It would be a pain in the ass having a sand-box because you would have to walk back and forth needlessly to missions. Hell you are there to secure targets kill alien etc. What would side missions be like? There aren't very many varieties besides kill cell agents and aliens in special ways. Flying around the huge WOW like environment would be pointless because you would instantly be zapped or blown up in the sky. Having an invisible jet would only work for wonder woman and it would detract from usage of the nano suite unless said suit gives you the ability to fly. They story lays out better on a linear track. I heard that the original was semi-linear with a few options. Not 100% open world.

I rate this game 15/10. Without any in depth knowledge of Crysis 1 experience wise that some of the complainers have, I still believe that their opinions are irrelevant. There is only one word to describe this game. AWESOMENESS. ( I am going to bring this back to make it a complete phrase instead of a single word) TO THE MAX!!!

I am confident that their will be future patches and fixes to satisfy PC gamers too. You couldn't afford a Cryengine 3 level editor and it probably wouldn't have been cost effective to include said editor which is top of the line. Gaming studios would love to put out the most eppic game that will satisfy their entire target demographic but realistically this wont happen until they raise their standards and stop pouring money into BS games and re-allocate said funds into games that run on advance engines like Crytech... writers that work in sync with game graphic designers.

Understandable, since you didn't play Crysis and have no expectations.

Nice how you call people who don't like the direction the game went PC fanboys when you never played the original.

Man, I really want that game. I'm caught between 360 and PC, both with have good 3D, one will have mp I'll play, and the other will hopefully have a DX11 patch which will make it look even better. Or Dance Central and a Kinect... decisions.

Another EA employee undercover perhaps?

I jest, I jest.

I should point out however that a lot of former Crysis fans are disappointed, because it seems unlikely that we will get DirectX 11 support. Which is kind of a big deal, considering the first game sold heavily on account of the gorgeous graphics, and to PC gamers it now seems that we are being shafted in favour of consoles... Again.

Personally, it is unlikely that I'll get Crysis 2 anytime soon. I enjoyed the first game, both the open world aspect, the visuals and the ability to turn invisible and give enemy soldiers wedgies made for fun, decent if not stellar, gameplay. Sure, it was no masterpiece, but it was allright. But the one feature that trumped them all was the inclusion of the CryEngine 2 Sandbox, a very powerful level-editor, that can be compared to the UDK, or the Source SDK. The fact that this was not included in Crysis 2 is disappointing.

All in all, CryTek appealed to the CoD-type console gamer. Seems logical as that part of the market is very broad indeed, but that type of game does not appeal to me, and I will probably not buy it.

(Something I do wonder however is: How is the story? I hear it is written by Richard K. Morgan, I've read a few of his books, and I found them very good. Does that carry on over into the game, or is it as it looks, a clichéd "save New York from the aliens!!"-type of story?)

@ARACHON

Well so far the story is pretty decent. I wish I was an undercover employee. I am thinking about going back to play Crysis 1. To me a island setting is the perfect place to have an open semi open world. From what I have played to far the game seems somewhat linear but if they were to make a ruined NY city an open world then it may not fit and it would be boring walking from place to place hoping that you wouldn't walk 30 miles into a dead end blocked off by a crumbled building and burning cars and then have to double back and find an alternate root. It's pretty crazy that all of the marines you start the game with pretty much die in the start. I strongly suggest that you don't pass up Crysis 2 based on the fact that it is not similar to Crysis 1.

I had no idea that there was a level editor for an FPS. I would imagine that it would double the price of the game. They either don't want other studios to rip the software off or they are planing on selling a moderation pack later when it is perfected and the original game sold a lot of copies. It probably cost a fortune to produce.

I apologize for the name calling. But you guys really shouldn't say the game sucks when in fact you haven't played it. EA was just trying to appeal to a larger market. Surely they wouldn't have or will not make a lot of money targeting the game to PC gamers and making it a PC exclusive. If they spent millions producing it they are expecting a ROI (return on investment) from the Call of DUTY FPS audience.

I am not on any side of the PC vs. Console WAR because I own several consoles and a PC but my suggestion is to buy it for a console and enjoy it for what it is as opposed to snubbing it because it is missing a few expected features. When you get an education related to designing video games and scratch up enough money to produce your concepts and pay for software programmers etc. You can do whatever you want with your intellectual property.

They may be like Blizzard and release features that should have been on the title originally if enough people complain. Everyone on SC2mapster complained about their being no search or chat functions on Battle-net. One of our sites members received an offer to work with blizzard for his custom modding. He brought up some of our concerns in his interview and sooner or latter changes were finally made.

@astalano yeah its fun being a troll. j/k But honestly life isn't always what you expect it to be welcome to the real world where things do not go your way all of the time. I was simply irritated that people said the game suck because it was missing features as if in this generation companies don't add patches and updates to their software as well have expansion packs and add-ons to improve functionality after it has been tested out for a while.

All in all this game still rocks regardless. Wow a multi-million souless corporation not catering to the whims of it's smallest demographic... crysis pc fans... that will not yield them the majority f their ROI. Shocking. I am sure they are weaping and wiping their tears with hundred dollar bills.

I am eager to play this game, but just for the record, Gamefly is $16, $23, or $30 per month depending on how many games you get at a time

Now I want to call it a troll. Do you really have any idea what "sandbox" means in Crysis?

I really liked Battle L.A.

I get that it was cliched and stuff but come on, it did exactly what it was meant do - lots of explosions and action and it did that part really well.

@MiricleOfSound If I just wanted that I would check out the trailer for this game on youtube. I don't want to waste $10 and snack on over priced popcorn for a flag-waving crap-fest that was produced by a pants on head retarded monkey who never learned the concept of what a story or a plot is... who does this guy think he is michael bay. If I shell out that kind of money I expect to be entertained. And they wonder why so many movies are pirated over the net these days.

Lot of explosions... wow. I don't want to pay full price for half of a product. What they promised was a film that tied in with the original 1942 event which really didn't tie in with anything in the story arch at all. I don't know about you but I go to see alien movies to see the ALIENS and how aliens interact.... and what plausible motive do they have. The movie was as generic as the title... the story writing was lazy with the same cookie cutter bs stereotypical marine personalities that have been done thousands of times and you couldn't even remember the names of any of the characters because they are not memorable.

Honestly with out looking on wikipedia or imbd. What is the name of the Main character and 5 supporting characters..... go ahead take a second.... *cough* yeah thats what I thought.

In the name of the great gordon ramsay yelling at semi-retarded fry cook on kitchen nightmare.... WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU YOU DONKEY!!!! STANDARDS!!!!!

Battle LA was a over hyped piled of pokemon poo.... seriously Anthony saves the world is better then this travesty of a movie. Me and thousands of movie reviewers agree. It didn't even warrant a full review by @Bob"MovieBob"Chipman.

Battle LA sucked case closed.

Stop living in denial @miricle of sound... it's okay. Your not the only one who wasted the night and the price of a movie ticket.

Oh yeah and to not stay off topic... CRYSIS 2 rules

They're terrified of offering a working demo, I'm not interested in paying them anything.

I might buy a used copy or a steam sale for $5-10 once we see it at that price, but not before.

I enjoyed the quip that the PC gaming demographic is the 'smallest'. It's far from it, but then again a lot of this 'review' was far from unbiased it seems.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the first game until the aliens showed up. Only reason I ever really bought Crysis 1 was for a mod called Mechwarrior: Living Legends. I enjoyed the single-player, but I enjoyed MWLL far more than any Crysis game (or Call of Duty game for that matter).

But my point is primarily this: don't speak without researching first. Helps keep you from lookin' dumb. If you have an opinion, you can state so in various ways, and you are entitled to your own thoughts.

But you callin' the PC demographic the smallest was a punch at yourself more than anything. Console gaming is big, undoubtedly so. But they aren't the largest demographic, and never will be. Console gamers will _NEVER_ have the options that PC gamers will have, and this is why PC gaming can never die, much less be thought of as the 'smallest' demographic.

Ok, I got your point, and I get that the game is awesome, BUT, the first Crysis wasn't so full and open to begin with.

There was a jungle, yes, but it was still fairly linear and judging from what I've seen of footage of Crysis 2, it's still pretty open, but still pretty linear.

The "sandbox" mode was a level editor in real time. You could create your little piece of the island and stack thousands of barrels or do whatever you want, or modify one of the levels. The game wasn't like GTA or FarCry 2.

So yeah, do your homework first, or better yet, play the first game before making so many hasty and dumb statements about it.

I'm just going to copy and paste this rather than retype it out:

Picked up Crysis 2 today, trying to figure out how I feel regarding it. On the plus side, it's really pretty. It's got amazing foliage and really cool particle effects. Everything looks very crisp and most of the visual effects are interesting without being distracting.

In the single player campaign, the AI has been frustratingly awful. Enemies will get stuck on the terrain, it takes them way too long to react to your actions, and God save them if you use Stealth Mode. I saw one enemy vault a barrier, hide behind it, get up, vault it again, turn around, vault it again, and then hide again, rinse and repeat 3 more times. I've been able to avoid a majority of the enemies simply by stealthing to where I need to be, stopping and hiding along the way to refill my energy.

The alien enemies are a little better, but they only really seem to do two things: Hop around all over the place and then charge you. It's far easier and conserves a ton of ammo if you just stealth up and stealth kill each one. If they do see you, usually I just wait until they charge and beat the crap out of them; way better than trying to bother with shooting them.

I can't determine if the game has certain points where there are infinite enemies, but it sure seems like it sometimes. Early on, I had cross this dock to get to an apartment complex and I used up all my ammo shooting guys in the head, but they never stopped coming. I eventually said screw it, turned on stealth mode, and swam around the entire place. Maybe it's just me, but I sure hope not, I thought gaming was past infinite enemy spawning.

Online has been ok, but it's kinda a cluster****. I haven't actually played it much online, but it seems to be fairly fast-paced. My biggest complaint is that the stealth and armor modes don't seem to be very responsive, which has lead to me tapping the armor button like a madman while getting shot at with full energy to no effect. Also, since you use the shoulder buttons to active stealth mode and armor mode, as a traditional FPS player, I find myself going into stealth mode a lot when I meant to throw a nade.

The story and voice acting especially is pretty bad. Plot-wise, I have zero clue what is going on, but there are certain points, especially when the villains talk, where the voice acting is just PAINFULLY bad.

EDIT: I've had some more time to play and I have been enjoying the Multiplayer. Since you get those nifty jump and sprint bonuses, people tend to use them more often, which leads to some more active combat than COD games. One thing that I have to learn not to do though is fire my guns in Stealth mode, since it overloads your suit.

There arn't many people expecting Crysis 2 to be bad. Some people, obviously, but not many. What people are expecting is for it to be worse than Crysis 1, and that's what all the review seem to say. Crysis 1 wasn't a perfect game, but it didn't set out to be. It tried (and succeeded) to have average, playable mechanics and gunplay as a method of showing off stunning graphics and an innovative gameplay method of the nanosuit (which, on the hardest difficulties, was a much more importent weapon than any rifle). It just sort of did its own thing in the gaming world, and it did it well.

For the sequal, people are wanting that, but more. This is perhaps the only game currently in the world where graphics really and truely do matter, it's arguable whether they matter for anything else or are just a method of conveying gameplay, but graphics are what Crysis was all about, and Crysis 2 should be better. Toning them down in order to focus on the average gameplay... not the greatest move.

So hey, good for you. You never played Crysis 1, so you've happy with Crysis 2. I havn't played it yet (live in the UK, where it isn't out yet) but all the reviews say that you paid a fair price for a decent game, and that's a good thing that we don't see enough of in modern gaming. But the people complaining about graphics and editing tools and related things arn't whiling, elitist PC fanboys, they're just standard Crysis fans who liked what the origional did and wanted more of that. If we wanted average gunplay, story and graphics... well, CoD came out for us PC gamers too.

(P.S. don't bump threads using only the word 'bump'; it's the equivilant of painting a big ban-hammer shapped target on your head around these parts.)

IRONY!!!! [sub](after your opening lambaste on the nature of Crysis 1, incase you were wondering)[/sub]

You've spammed suppositions and opinions as counters to fair complaints being raised by the PC community "I'm sure they'll patch in Dx11", for example.

Also, compare your gushing "review" to Elamdri's points above... interesting contrast of opinion there.
