Before Crysis 2 came out a lot of PC fanboys were harping on how the graphics for the console version would be crappy and the game is going to suck etc. Some cried claiming... no sandbox mode I'll never buy it. Some individuals I have spoken to on Facebook claimed they wouldn't buy it because kanye was singing in one of the game trailers...
I just got finished opening up my copy and I must say... the aforementioned critics and cry babies were extremely wrong and pants on head retarded because this game rocks. You should play a judge a game on it's merits. Even if you or a little weary Game Fly is 10 bucks a month. There is no excuse for you not to play it.
The graphics are absolutely gorgeous. The open cinematic and cut scenes are more action packed and coherent than the entire Battle LA film. This game is what Battle for Los Angeles should have been only set in New York with a plausible plot/story line so far. As far as alien invasions go this game is doing it right. The controls are intuitive and the nano suit voice is pretty bad ass. (Raise you hand if you were expecting the auto-tuned alien voice in Battle LA that you heard in the trailer that was better then that movie)
No sandbox mode. From game reviews Crysis 1 was set on an island not a large metropolitan city so sand box + small island = plausible. sand box + huge city in ruins = pain in the ass to get around in. To you know how long it would take to produce a 3D model of NY city in it's entirety. They could do it but your computers would explode. The games price would double and cost twice as much if not more to produce that would yield a very good ROI.
It would be a pain in the ass having a sand-box because you would have to walk back and forth needlessly to missions. Hell you are there to secure targets kill alien etc. What would side missions be like? There aren't very many varieties besides kill cell agents and aliens in special ways. Flying around the huge WOW like environment would be pointless because you would instantly be zapped or blown up in the sky. Having an invisible jet would only work for wonder woman and it would detract from usage of the nano suite unless said suit gives you the ability to fly. They story lays out better on a linear track. I heard that the original was semi-linear with a few options. Not 100% open world.
I rate this game 15/10. Without any in depth knowledge of Crysis 1 experience wise that some of the complainers have, I still believe that their opinions are irrelevant. There is only one word to describe this game. AWESOMENESS. ( I am going to bring this back to make it a complete phrase instead of a single word) TO THE MAX!!!
I am confident that their will be future patches and fixes to satisfy PC gamers too. You couldn't afford a Cryengine 3 level editor and it probably wouldn't have been cost effective to include said editor which is top of the line. Gaming studios would love to put out the most eppic game that will satisfy their entire target demographic but realistically this wont happen until they raise their standards and stop pouring money into BS games and re-allocate said funds into games that run on advance engines like Crytech... writers that work in sync with game graphic designers.
