Crysis 2 DirectX 11 Patch Coming Next Week

Crytek has announced that the long-awaited Crysis 2 [http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&tag=mozilla-20&index=blended&link_code=qs&field-keywords=Crysis%202&sourceid=Mozilla-search] DirectX 11 and Hi-Res Textures update will arrive next week.

Rumors of a DirectX 11 update for the already hot-looking Crysis 2 first bubbled up back in March, followed by a quick, semi-sort-of denial [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/108835-Crytek-Denies-DirectX-11-Patch-for-Crysis-2] from Crytek, which responded to reports of the update with a forum post stating, "No patch was ever confirmed, I have no idea why this website even posted such information." But Crytek's biggest problem with the news of the update seemed to be not that it was untrue, but that it came from an unofficial and unsanctioned source.

In any event, it was true and today the studio revealed that it's actually less than a week away. "The DX11 Ultra Upgrade is a free visual improvement add-on introducing DirectX 11 support as well as a wealth of graphical improvements and performance optimization for both DX11 and DX9 APIs," Crytek wrote in an announcement of the package that was apparently premature and has since been pulled but remains on NeoGAF [http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=28761327&postcount=1].

"When using the new 'Ultra' spec, DX9 platforms will benefit from realtime local reflections and contact shadows," it continues. "The owners of DX11 platforms, in addition, will be able to enjoy hardware tessellation (requires the installation of the 'Tessellation Package'), parallax occlusion mapping and several improvements for shadows, water, particles, depth of field and motion blur."

The "Crysis 2 DX11 and High Res Textures Update" comes out on June 27 and will require the newly-released 1.9 patch, a video card that supports DirectX 11 and of course the PC version of Crysis 2. Yay! About time, better late than never I suppose. Love the performance improvements with it, and Tessellation looks pretty amazing as well.

Kind of odd that it wasn't in the game to begin with. What with Crysis being one of the first games to support DX10, you'd think Crysis 2 would be one of the first to support DX11 right at launch.

No one cares anymore. People are still playing Crysis 1 and Warhead SP rather than Crysis 2 SP or MP. And that has nothing to do with Dx11. It's just a shit game on PC.

This. Crytek can go fuck themselves, they spend months talking about how this game would ship with DX11 and how it would use it to its fullest potential... Fuck them. I didnt even buy the piece of shit and as soon as I heard about DX11 and mod support being left out I was glad I didnt.
EDIT: And another one:

OT: While I don't have a DX11-capable computer, this is definitely good news to my ears since it means that those who do can now get their money's worth on their fancy hardware.

Although, as good as Crysis 2 is, they really need to increase the range of Nanovision. Maybe not quite to the point of the demo, but definitely to the point where it becomes an effective counter to cloak.

Now if only I could get the USB adapter that was supposed to be compatible with Windows 7 to work I could download the drivers for my GTX550 and download this patch.

it's good news even with my dx10 only card, can't be that far away from the SDK release for cryengine 3.

Still don't see how waiting for a patch is any different from a game being delayed 3 months

Well, it's not as if the devs are conspiring to give you a huge middle finger.

I know it was a huge mistake for Crytek's part in not bringing DX11 out of the box, but at least they're bringing it now. Heck, I guess that it would've been better if they delayed the game a bit more to iron out a few things, but I guess it was not their decision.

They would be lying to your face if they wouldn't care less and didn't released the thing... and give you a middle finger on fire while they're at it.

OT: I don't have a capable system to try this out, but at least it's bringing some neat upgrades and fixes for DX9.

I'm gonna have to join the "Why wasn't this with the release" group here on this one. I don't really care about graphics that much to even care about this (and the game ruined itself perfectly fine by itself for me), but this was promised at launch and they failed to deliver.

If anyone still plays it, then enjoy the better graphics!

I do believe that its the publishers fault, they probably rushed the development. I hardly believe that Crytek thought about releasing the game when they knew that it could look better. Its Crytek, they love graphics, its their signature.

If not liking a bad game (debatable and a matter of opinion) and telling a dev to fuck off when they promise things they dont keep and give the finger to the community that is the reason the company is where it is now (not debatable, fact) makes me a hater, then color me one.

Just a question for you though, since you seem to be perfectly fine with all this, what is your opinion on the matter? Did they do a good thing? Is saying "The game will ship with DX11 support (btw look at what it can do) and a mod kit", then shipping the game with neither, good practice that is to be applauded? In short, do you like devs to outright lie into your face?
I got it cause I wanted to, and it didn't have dx11, life went on

Now it does, that'll be pretty cool for a replay.
