The concept of minimum requirements is retarded.

What does 'minimum' mean? in 1997, it used to mean you can run the game in 320x240 in software rendering. In 2000, it was usually 640x480 with lowest details. After that, nobody every publishes what 'minimum' means. So, WHAT does it mean?

BTW the first Crysis looked incredibly shitty on lowest settings.
Minimum - you can play the game on the lowest settings and enjoy it. If you dont meet minimum... Have fun crashing every now and then or not playing at all.

As for me, since I have a 5770 and minimum required is 3850.... I'm happy as hell.

I must have slipped into an alternate universe, because I seem to remember hardcore gaming companies always trying to step up the bar five times to make your not-so-old computer cry. Crytek got a reputation for stepping up the bar to twice that.
Actually I am shocked they are supporting DX9c. I guess they like selling games to more than just the small percentile of alienware freaks.

On another note, that trailer is damn sweet.

Only on Escapist is a Dual Core less powerful than a Pentium 4, 1 gig more than 2 and a 6800 256meg more powerful than an 8800GT 512 meg.

LOL I barely meet minimum requirements. When this happens it's time to start saving money for new PC.

Crysis 1 was a gimmick, it didn't do well on PC.
So they made it a console game, and ported it to PC.

Have fun with your console port, folks.

The real question for me is are computers available now, that are going to be able to play the game fully. As in with everything turned on. As after this song and dance, if nothing can play it fully that is really gona pi$$ people off.

I recently upgraded my graphics performance to double that which could play Crysis 1 fully. I.E from 2 GTX 285's to 2 GTX 570's. So I should expect no issues, right?

It did well enough to make Crytek a big reputation and get them a lot of funding to make this sequel.

Hah. On the day of release, I could play Crysis in Medium, in 800x600 BARELY. As in, lagging heavily. Even my older nephew's PC couldn't handle the game on maximum in 1280x1024 with a 8800GT.

They didn't downgrade the graphics, they just optimized the engine. Same thing that happened with Warhead, but on a bigger scale this time.

Here are the minimum system requirements to run Crysis 2:

[ul]
[li]Internet connection required for activation[/li]
[li]OS: XP/Vista/Windows 7[/li]
[li]CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2 Ghz, AMD Athlon 64 x2 2 Ghz or better[/li]
[li]GPU Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB of memory or higher; ATI/AMD Radeon 3850HD 512Mb RAM or higher[/li]
[li]Memory: 2 GB of RAM[/li]
[li]Hard Drive Space: 9 GB[/li]
[li]DVD-ROM with 8x speed[/li]
[li]Audio: DirectX9c compatible[/li]
[li]Keyboard, mouse or Xbox 360 controller for Windows[/li]
[/ul]

If you look back at the minimum requirements for the first Crysis game, you'll notice that they were actually higher than the minimum requirements for the sequel, which is coming out 4 years later.
I'm terribly sorry, but I'm gonna have to call you out on that one. It's just wrong, plain and simple. And it took 30 seconds of research to confirm...

Crysis 1:
Minimum System Requirements
- Processor: 2.8 GHz or faster (XP) or 3.2 GHz or faster (Vista)
- RAM: 1.0 GB RAM (XP) or 1.5 GB RAM (Vista)
- Video Memory: 256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT or greater; ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (Radeon X800 Pro for Vista) or greater.
- Only supplied on DVD?: Yes
- Hard Drive Space: 12 GB
- Operating System: Windows XP / Windows Vista
- DirectX Version: DX9.0c / DX10

In reality, Crysis 1's minimum specs are pretty much HALF of Crysis 2's.

In fact, Crysis 1's recommended specs are pretty much Crysis 2's minimum. And by pretty much, I mean exactly:

Crysis 1:
Recommended System Requirements
- Processor: Intel Core 2 DUO @ 2.2GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+
- RAM: 2 GB
- Video Memory: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS/640 or similar
- Hard Drive Space: 12 GB

Lets have some facts behind sensational news stories please...

Hmmm....sure the trailer is pretty, but i hope that the game will be a bit more difficult than it makes itself out to be. I mean, a tank shot him!!

I just hope SLI/CrossFire optimization works by day 1. Original Crysis had problem with that and made the game choppy in every system on the planet. By the time the most powerfull card was the 8800GT Ultra. Could not run Crysis.

What do you mean by challenge? They said that the game will require LESS of a computer, not more.

Your'e gonna have to settle for metro 2033 for your silly little "challenge" as a laptop will be able to run this game.

It is actually a new version of the engine. Crysis 1 is using Cryengine 2 and Crysis 2 will be using Cryengine 3

Yeah, that's what I meant. In Crysis 1, CryEngine 2 (after CryEngine from Far Cry... God, so much crying) was graphically awesome, but unrefined. In Warhead, they optimized it more. CryEngine 3 was created on the basis of CE2 - you can see it in how everything looks like in Crysis Warhead on highest details, but without being so demanding.

Recommended Crysis 1 = Minimum Crysis 2.

BUT. With Minimum PC for Crysis 1, you could BARELY run it. With Recommended, you could run it somewhat smoothly.

This time, Minimum might actually mean the game will be stable.

Crytek, this is an insult!
From what I've seen in trailers (and this piece of news confirms my suspicions) you've downgraded the game so that consoles could handle it. Also, Crysis 2 seems to be dumbed down gameplay wise, having, for instance, only two suit modes this time.
Shame on you...
...and fuck Microsoft(?!) and Sony, for paying game developpers to make more (console)exclusives, and, in this case, stealing made-for-PC titles and completely screwing them so their adequate for their miserable systems; you're a cancer to good gaming.

That would be nice, but my point was that the article's statement was simple wrong - factually incorrect, and as much would have been evident if Scott or any proof reader had taken a second to google Crysis 1's reqs. Shoddy journalism, not some commentary on Crysis 2's demanding requirements, was the point of my post.

But yeah, Crysis 1's minimum specs were a joke - the engine didn't scale too well (well, it scaled up fine, I guess) and playing the game without physics made strength almost pointless :'(

Crysis 2 will certainly do better than 1 if they can make it run on lower powered comps, and misleading reportage like this is going to make their job easier, heh. Unfortunately, my graphics card falls just short of these minimum specs (I've got a 256mb 8800GT), so I'm not gonna even bother having a look until I've upgraded, lol.

I'm pretty sure I've heard the suit announce all four - I think you're wrong on that point. Stealth has been shown plenty, so has strength and armour, and speed featured in the first trailer or two with some sliding action. Go check the trailers again!
