Not played but why are people bashing Halo 3? I may be biased because somehow I completely missed the hype on it saving a bus advert saying it would be out soon but I thought it was really awesome and especially once the dumber players have had their turn and chucked it away the multiplayer really shines.
Halo 3 was pretty average. Definitely not as good as the game reviewers said it was, but I don't need to talk about that - yahtzee does the job quite nicely.

Unknower, when you say the nanosuit is something new... ever played Deus Ex? That's got all the 'suit modes' of Crysis, and more.
Nope and I don't think I got a very good picture how it works when I read about Deus Ex on Wikipedia. Anyway, I got the impression that Deus Ex's nano-augmentations give you a constant bonus while in Crysis you can only have one mode on at a time, which drains energy,
Ha! Well, as an actual owner of the game, I can tell you that Wikipedia is wrong. Why not go get the game and see for yourself? It's widely regarded as one of the greatest games ever, and you can pick it up for not much at all.

Runtheplace, if I want to compare Deus Ex and Crysis, I will. Indeed, they are both directly comparable in that they offer the player extra powers as well as guns with which to get the job done. Crysis offers four powers which don't hugely change the way you play the game. Deus Ex offers you the same four powers and more, which drastically change the way you play the game. Crytek marketed the nanosuit as something new and innovative, when in reality its a concept that has been used and abused in dozens of games already. There, comparison made.
You obviously know a great game when you play it. :) Actually Deus Ex is a free download on Gametap, and I heartily agree it is an amazing game, and to date my favorite of all time. It is definitely worth a play-through.

All this talk of going by the reviews and just obeying the hype and all that shit, i NEVER heard any of the hype or read any reviews, i just say it in a PC mag and thought "Hm thats looks nice" so i read up on the story a bit.

They offer the same powers, but the fast-paced style of Crysis is completely different to the slower-paced style of Deus Ex. On that token, you can't compare Crysis to Deus Ex because they are used in very different play styles.

It would be like trying to compare a game like Doom to Splinter Cell just because they both use guns.

Bullshit argument. They're both relatively free-form FPS games that give you a largely identical set of magic spells. You can creep around in the shadows/bushes and snipe for a 'slow paced' experience or you can rush straight into CQB with a shotgun and the speed augs for a 'fast paced' experience. You can play either game however you want.

My time with Crysis reminded me of no game more than Deus Ex. They obviously lifted a number of ideas from that classic and bolted them onto Far Cry. The mistake came when they proved either unwilling or unable to fix all of Far Cry's gameplay problems. Then they made the AI developmentally disabled and gave them perfect body armor.

The only reason I can see to play Crysis is to mess around with the physics engine and I got that out of my system with Red Faction, Max Payne 2 and Half-Life 2 half a decade ago. The rest totally derivative of much better games and it's horribly-flawed-but-still-kinda-fun-for-a-while ancestor. Oh yea, and if you have a 'god box' it gets dangerously close to photo-realism.

PS Its good for benchmarking and stress testing video cards, I guess.

I think most of the Crysis hate is just hype backlash. Crysis was a decent enough FPS - I'd give it an 8 - but it's not the 10 rated orgasm that many gaming mags and review sites made it out to be.
I'd give it an 8 also (also coming from someone who can't run the game much past minimum). But it's not the 1 rated shitfest that many spite-filled gamers make it out to be.

What I believe has been said before, and better, but I like my own text so I'll throw my opinion in anyway.

Crysis was a decent game, unnecessarily hyped, so in response to the hype, most serious gamers decided to cut it down a few notches by acting totally the opposite.

To use a stupid example, It's like when you see quite a stupid youtube video, which everyone is says is the funniest thing since they saw a penguin do a handstand but in reality is just ok.

It's rated 4.5/5 stars. Do you rate it the 3 stars it deserves for being good, but not amazing? Maybe, but to make your vote count, you've gotta give it rock bottom 1 star.

Same deal with crysis, To oppose the amazing hype given to it, crysis has had the crap kicked out of it by a lot of irritated gamers.

And about the physics engine, was I the only person who died around 5 times because of lightly brushing a palm tree caused my humvee/tank to blow up?

And was I the only person who found the flying part easy?

Yeah, the constant fellatio this game got from the press kinda irritated me. In all honesty I would give this thing a 70% which is a C- in spite of how I rip on the thing. If I were younger and less jaded (hadn't played Deus Ex and the Dark Forces series) I probably would have liked this game a bit more.

I find all this whining completely garbage. I have beaten all 5 great shooters of 2007: Crysis, CoD4, Orange Box, Halo 3, and Bioshock. They were all great. Period. End of Discussion. If you didn't like them, then that's your opinion, but each one has a huge pool of big fans. There is a reason why these arguments continue today... some people only like certain things. I happened to enjoy and love ALL FIVE. Each had their mertis... Halo 3 for the co-op and fun, CoD4 for the cinematic campaign of win, Orange Box for the color ... I mean awesome content, Bioshock for an outstanding narrative, and Crysis for a great gaming experience.

I'm sorry you guys don't have PCs to run it. Not my problem. Don't dock a game because you can't run it. 8800GT 512Mb. Get one. $130 After Rebate. There, now you can play it and be ready for STALKER, Far Cry 2, Fallout 3, Dead Space, and more coming up. The developers even said including "Very High" was a mistake. High should have been very high, Medium should have been high and so on down the line, tweaking all the way. This is what they will be doing to Warhead, no doubt. The game on Medium still looks better and plays better than MANY a shooter.

Bland, boring? I'm assuming you played the demo and failed to "think with portals" (IE outside the box). I didn't think it was boring when I ramped a jeep lined with C4 in the passenger seat into a building, stealthed out and then blew it "WTF SKY HIGH!" taking out 5~7 guys with. Learning when and where enemy drops happen make C4 and rocket launchers a blast. Nothing like the calling in for reinforcements, only to have the helicopter crash due to a rocket and plow through a row of trees!

In conclusion: Learn to Build, Learn to Play, we get it, you don't like the game because of either of those 2 reasons. I loved the ship, I liked the alien parts, good day.

AMEN!! I have Crysis and I cant see where all this bitching comes from. hell even the story aint too bad if YOU TAKE IT IN TH RIGHT CONTEXT. Crysis as a great game, not an earth shattering coming of jesus game, but still a well built game that deserves most the praise it gets.

Funny thing is that I never played Far Cry and I was pumped solely for the graphics in Crysis and it turned out to be an amazing game. I had a friend that ragged me NON STOP that this game would be a tech demo and be a pile of #$*& and lame, etc.

... Now he won't stop asking to bring my PC with him so he can play more Crysis and is building a new PC for the new RTS games coming (Empire, SC2, Dawn of War 2, etc.) and... Crysis.

Oh how the tides of turned. In my group of friends, no one says Crysis sucks because they all play it on my PC, which can run you about $600~700 before my SLI upgrade. For more info, search for Misconceptions about PCs, a great thread here on Escapist.

Yea my old comp crapped out on me like 2 months ago and forced me to buy a new top of the line ll nvidia comp packed with a 9800GX2. Played the demo, thought it was good, mainly used it as a benchmark or my computer, and then went out and got it and dont regret buying it. So much fun to play. Even better when you have XP and you know how to enable dx10 feature, TACK THAT VISTA

Hey hey hey, I run ultimate vista and ive NEVER had a problem with it.

Anyways, Crysis was great and I dont think it deserves all the shit it's been taking. Crank the graphincs up to max, if you can, and then try to find me another game that looks so damn good. Also, invisible shotgun blasts FTW.

I liked it. I mean I can only play it on Medium setting and its got to the point in the story where I can't be bothered to go any further because its so damn slow but that is my fault for trying it on a mediocre laptop and refusing to compromise on Graphics.

But online it's great, you can play almost anyway you want and other than the fact that the only gun anyone ever uses is the Gauss I think it's fantastic. It's got the point that in other games now I keep hitting 'V' trying to bring up suit controls!

Same, Vista, no issues.

I prefer the prone/strength mode sniper scoped gauss rifle to take out guys like the little rag dolls they are.

anyways crysis maxed <<my comp. never liked it, its a far cry lazy graphics test look-alike. story is uniform, gameplay is uniform, everything is soooo :done already:ish.

I've played it since the beta, finished it on easy, normal, hard, and halfway on delta.. the game IS awesome, and I don't get why people keep bitching about the graphics when they can play it on medium or low too..

Ran it glass-fucking-smooth on the PC I played it on, and I was woefully underwhelmed. Bioshock offered much more in terms of 'thinking outside the box', in a less physically open environment. It was a bland, garden variety game that was very very very shiny. 3/5, maybe 3.5/5 for the potential.
