well plain and simple it's because a lot of people can't play it with out their GPU's committing suicide. and in general people are a petty and envious there for because they cannot play it they declare it bad.

This is also the reason for console wars. Except a PC upgrade is only a graphics card away ;)

Yea my old comp crapped out on me like 2 months ago and forced me to buy a new top of the line ll nvidia comp packed with a 9800GX2. Played the demo, thought it was good, mainly used it as a benchmark or my computer, and then went out and got it and dont regret buying it. So much fun to play. Even better when you have XP and you know how to enable dx10 feature, TACK THAT VISTA
Hey hey hey, I run ultimate vista and ive NEVER had a problem with it.

Anyways, Crysis was great and I dont think it deserves all the shit it's been taking. Crank the graphincs up to max, if you can, and then try to find me another game that looks so damn good. Also, invisible shotgun blasts FTW.
I never said anything bad about vista, I was just saying that you dont NEED vista to have the DX10 features, you can get them on xp if you edit the cvar groups. So you dont need vista and it's dx10 to enjoy dx10 features which i find really funny being able to run dx10 features on dx9 lol.

No DX10 is a load of BS, I agree. I really like Vista, but so far DX10 has done nothing and they announced DX11 will be compatible with all DX10 cards... lol. Such a shift, so soon? Oh well, I think DX9 will still be with us until Windows 7 and then, and only then, will it become more required, but not completely dead.

That's my conjecture.

I've finished Crysis a few days ago. I really had fun playing it, even if I had the video settings set to low. It was fun, untill the Core level. After that level, everything became very simple, especially if you had a shotgun, a minigun, a gauss rifle or the MOAR. The first half was really cool, even though I agree that it's buggy with the headshots (for instance: The fight with the Korean general, I unloaded a whole SMG cartridge on his head from point blank range, and barely then he died). Every game has bugs, and as someone said, a game should be evaluated for what it is, and not what it isn't.

Its really tough to not respond to this crap with an ad hominem attack, but I'll do my best. My rig ran it OK at medium settings at 1024 and it looked really good.

Graphics are this game's only redeeming feature. Every other facet of this game has been done before and done better. Crysis has too many problems and doesn't have the polish necessary to forgive its 'been there, done that' feel. That bit about polish should say a lot coming from someone whose favorite game from last year was STALKER.

The game suffered because the dev team didn't know when to stop with the graphics really. I would read reviews where the person reviewing the game would talk about how his uber box was brought to it's knees trying to run the game. I played the demo myself and I thought it wasn't bad I'm just pissed that the developers didn't chill out on the graphics a bit and focus more on the gameplay.

Really the reason the game takes such a heavy toll on PC's is not the graphics, its the actual game coding that made the game a nightmare on your PC. The way they coded it made it very demanding and with Warhead coming up this September, they are optimizing the game engine to run more proficiently on an average PC. The first mock up of the cryengine 2 was a mess, with warhead they have fixed the engine, graphic where but a small portion of the overall system problems.

I'll agree with you that the Crytek guys can't optimize code for shit. The video card is still the primary limiting factor, though. Below about an 8600GT level, the game very nearly won't run and low detail looks seriously ugly. UT2004, Quake 4 and HL2 look better than Crysis on low and run far faster.

how could you compare crysis to hl2, ut2004 and quake? the island in crysis alone is 3x bigger than any level in any of those games. Sure it runs slower than all of the games out there but not a single game can touch this thing in terms of eye candy.

the only thing that matters is that:
1. It's fun
2. It looks good(immersion included)
3. Online multi-player is great

Is that clear enough for you, or do I really need to explain what I just said?

1: Fun is in the brain of the gamer.
2: Its the best looking game ever made, hands down but calling that hackneyed tripe immersive is pushing it.
3: See number one, but I thought that Crysis's multiplayer was one of the most derided aspects of the game and it certainly can't compare to COD4, Halo 3 or Team Fortress 2 in the multiplayer department.

I'll say one positive thing about this all: Crysis, or more specifically the engine, has a lot of potential. Once it's through its teething and stuff, it could be very, very good. And if it is, that'll be fantastic... Because it's about time the Source engine gets replaced. Or at least faces some competition that'll force it to shape up. Two words: lean keys.

Oh come on now, those lines were by two different people in two different parts of the city. Granted they were the only lines those two stalkers had and they repeated them every five seconds...

Thank god you could fix that bug with a mod, Stalker was a great game but its engine did let it down a bit in some areas.

The new one comes out later this month, hope they have improved it.
Very looking forward to Clear Sky. The first one's problem was that it was simply unfinished: the publisher said 'SHIP' and the developer said 'Yes Sir!' and there was not much rejoicing.
