"Silent Running"? Anyone?
EDIT: I think In Bruges is considered cult. Deserves some attention.

If you're not offended by gratuitous amounts of gore and sex I would say Cannibal Holocaust. I couldn't watch it, my friend tried to make me watch it but I just don't like that kind of thing, he seemed to enjoy it though (I think he needs to see a therapist). Suffice it to say that this movie is not for children, or some adults even.

The concept for the movie is better than the actual film. I wouldn't suggest it to anyone purely on the grounds you mentioned. But It is worth looking at the story behind the film.

Think of it as a proto-Blair Witch.

Savior is a very moving and well executed film featuring Dennis Quaid at his absolute best.

Stalker: a 30 year old Russian Sci Fi with no special effects and four minute long shots. I fell in love with the work of Andrei Tarkovsky after that. haunting and patient.

City Of Lost Children/Delicatessen. Mind blowing lessons in production design.

Blade Runner: I'd go as far as saying THE definitive cult film in that it divides people so much.

I recently watched Meet the Feebles and cannot believe what I saw. Check it out.

As in the movie based on the board game? Hell yes.

Also, Fight Club, and Shawn of the Dead.

Also, films that are kind of cultish: Ed Wood and Nightmare Before Christmas.

Fight Club. Also, Clockwork Orange is great, but I'm not sure what I like so much about the film.

Repo! The Genetic Opera. Only time you will ever see Anthony Stewart Head sing as he disembowels someone.

For me, the biggest "Cult" films would be Clerks, but my own personal "Cult" film would be 28 Days Later =P

Some say Alien is a cult film. I'm also keen on fight club and pulp fiction, all of these were amazing movies.

How is Clerks a cult film?
Clerks practically defined the term "Cult Classic" ask anyone who has seen it.

Most anything by David Lynch - Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive (I probably spelled that wrong); all weird AS SHIT, but very awesome movies

Pick up a few John Carpenter movies, such as Big Trouble In Little China (for fun, action and a wee bit of mystery), The Thing (for a paranoia-inspiring monster-flick), In the Mouth Of Madness (ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES EVER if you like Lovecraftian ideas), The Fog (for a classic ghost story) and many more.
Carpenter is a genius.
You forgot They Live with Rowdy Roddy Piper.

I love you. That is one of my favorite movies of all time. Tim Curry, Madeline Kahn, Martin Mull, Christopher Lloyd and Michael McKean all together in a movie based on a board game? Destined for greatness.

I also enjoy most David Lynch films, except Wild At Heart but I blame Nick Cage for that.
