So yes that is, or was, my Xbox 360. What happened you ask? No I didn't rage when it RRODed in the middle of a match. In fact that wasn't done by me at all. That damage was done to a perfectly good, working xbox 360 by my MOTHER. Yeah she kinda isn't much of a fan of the whole console, with a special vendetta against Gears of War. I have no idea why, you only have to be 15 to play it in Australia, I'm 18. Gears of War didn't even come out until I was 15, I didn't get my xbox until I was 15.

So it was my 18th on Sunday and I now have enough money to buy a new xbox and still have enough left over for every else I spend my cash on. Thing is, coupled with year 12 exams in 2 months, my mother is still a danger to any xbox in the house. I am thinking I will wait until I finish school in November and then my mum will hopefully lay off, or I can simply move out.

For point of discussion escapists, what are your thoughts on my situation and has something like this happened to you?

EDIT: I would like to clarify two things
1) There is absolutely no chance in hell of my mum replacing the xbox
2) No I don't take offense to anyone calling my mum a crazy *****, so go ahead I do it daily.

EDIT2: Can also point out the very weird fact that my mum has no problem with me smoking marijuana. She yells at me about playing xbox, drinking not doing enough school work, but has no problem with me having a cone WHAT THE FUCK?!?.

My thoughts: Ouch. I feel for you dude. Why did your mom break it? Just because of Gears of war?Luckily nothing like this has ever happened to me. After all, everything I own is on my computer and my parents would have to be insane to break the $1300 computer they bought.

Lock up your Xbox away from her when not using it. It might inhibit its 'pick-up-and-play'-ability. But it will be safe.

Or, talk to her and confront her about it. Tell her that you paid for it, therefore she has no right to destroy your property. Tell her that if she does, you have every right to file suit against her for destruction of a $500(dunno the exchange rate that well) piece of technology.

Maybe get 'mom-based' insurance for it. That way, if she does fuck another one up, it's insured.

Maybe threaten her a little bit. If she destroys your next Xbox... total her car. Quid-pro-quo, as they say.

You're 18, she has no right to tell you what and what not to play, and she has especially no roght to trash something yours tha she doesn't approve of.

Have her pay for the replacement console, then get out of the house as soon as you can.

The part that gets me is that you're going to spend money replacing something she intentionally broke.

Fuck that shit.
If my mother broke my stuff on purpose, she would either replace it with interest, or she would have a hefty hospital bill to pay (because I would push her down the stairs.)

...Well, you did ask for my thoughts on your situation.
Chances of her replacing xbox? 0. In 3 years of having it she never once stopped complaining about it and saying how horrible and "evil" it is and how I've "sold my soul" to it. In all the time I've had it the only game she ever bought me was Guitar Hero: World Tour and has made a great habit of yelling at me every time I think about getting on it.

We argue on a daily basis, no she just hates it, so she came up one friday night when I was just sitting in the Gears menus chatting to mates picked it up took it outside and smashed it. (She kicked it a few times, hence where "Curb Stomped" came from.)

What
The
Fuck

[Kneejerkreaction]Your mum is a nutter, if that's how she behaves your better off leaving as soon as possible and never coming back.[/Kneejerkreaction]

Anyway, a bit less melodramatic would be to sit down and talk to her about it, then get her to replace it. She just tore through several hundred dollars worth of your money. Not nice, perhaps you should ask how she would take it if you started burning her clothes and make up because they were a distraction from cooking and cleaning.
She might get the point, but she might not.

Sue.
You're 18, she broke your possessions, that, presumably, you paid for.

I am fairly certain that is against some form of law.
And if it's not, do what someone else said and fuck up something of hers.
A 360 is...what, $300?
Slash all of her tires. I think (but am not sure) that that is roughly double.
Haha yeah that will hold up in court "What proof do you have you paid for this xbox" "umm none, but I did pay for it!" And slashing of tires I would but considering I drive her car, probably not a good idea.

by gears menu, you mean gears of war menu, as in you were playing it, she came into your room, took the 360 while it was still running, in front of your face, ripping out the cords, brought it outside, then broke it?

if i just got that right your mom sounds like those kinda people who believe that video games are the spawn of saten, and all video game's should burn in hell while being raped by an elephant with a fire truck sized penis.

not meaning to be an assuming asshole, or call your mom a crazy bible thumper, but that is what it sounded like.

Your mother just showed she is more immature than you, try talking to your dad and her at the same time, and demand a new console.

you are 18, its not like you are some 14 y/o brat playing games instead of doing school.

Sorry to hear man; if my mother would break my new computer id move out immediately until she appoligized (I live at home due to stuff being close and my mom liking it)

You don't have to pay for something to own it.
Any judge with the minutest bit of sense would see that the X-Box was yours.

I would honestly say you should go to court about it, there are far too many parents who think that being a parent means they own their child and can do what they want with them (and I say that as a parent myself), but if you do, wait until you've left home first.

Edit: And definitely wait until after your exams you buy a new one (Although having two broken X-Boxes to show off in court could hold more sway than only one.)

No thats exactly what happened. She's not religious at all (she considers herself "spiritual" or some bullshit) and she hates games, especially violent ones. I've tried explaining to her about them and even blatantly telling her she's wrong and a "fucking idiot" to quote myself. She just doesn't listen.

Finish the school, then move out and get a lawyer. Threaten her with a suit if she doesn't repay you.

No offense, but your mom sounds sort of crazy.
My advice would be to wait until you move out to buy a new one, as you've said there's no chance she'll replace the one she trashed.
Otherwise, the new one you buy will likely end up dead as well.
