It would go to the small claims courts, which are far more efficient.

Anyway, it's not about the money, it's about making a point that she can't treat you like that just because you're her son.
Only action will make that point. Admittedly there are other actions you could take, but breaking something of hers would be descending to her level. I don't know your exact situation, so there may be other things you can do to make the point that don't require you descending to her level, but from what I can see, taking it to court is your best option.
