Alcoholism is a disease, but it's the only one you can get yelled at for having. Goddamn it Otto, you are an alcoholic. Goddamn it Otto, you have Lupis... one of those two doesn't sound right.

Actually, Wikipedia can be a very reliable source. It IS a disease and until you experience it first hand (My stepdad is an alcoholic), you don't realise it. The doctors and nurses I've spoken to conclude that it's a disease and an addiction. Those toxins destroy vital organs (the disease), while you're blissfully unaware because of the alcohol's depressant effect (the addiction)jasoncyrus said:PPssstttt Wikipedia /= truth.Radelaide said:"Modern medical definitions describe alcoholism as a disease and addiction which results in a persistent use of alcohol despite negative consequences." It's not a disease, addiction sure, disease no. It's a DEPENDANCE created by a TOXIN. Hence not a disease.
I'm going to second that. I wouldn't call myself an alcoholic...but I LUUUUURV drinking. It's as Australian as sausages on a BBQ.MaxTheReaper said:Just drink more. You'll forget about all of this silly "alcoholism" shit.
When you remember again, drink even more.
Then your father is in hands of morons. Take him to a real hospital. One that knows the difference between a disease (a condition involving living organism) and POISONING.Radelaide said:Actually, Wikipedia can be a very reliable source. Not to sound rude, but, can I ask where you got your medical degree? The depressant is the addiction. Many alcoholics drink to GET that effect. And btw, stop insulting people you don't know.jasoncyrus said:Then your father is in hands of morons. Take him to a real hospital. Toxin /= disease. The depressant effect is not the addiction since many alcoholics get angry, happy, giddy, etc etc, and are still addicted. Whoever told you this is an idiot, go talk to some REAL doctors who didnt get their medical degree from the back of a cereal box.
Funny, for all the talk about how healthy it is to drink herbal tea and crap like that, alcohol and coffee are the only two beverages I know with health benefits proven by medial research (if consumed in moderation). Works for me!Bulletinmybrain said:2 beers day can actually be good for you. TWO that is.
And from this I suppose YOU have a medical degree?jasoncyrus said:Then your father is in hands of morons. Take him to a real hospital. How many different times do people need to show you the definition of a disease before you just have to submit to the fact that it is indeed a disease?jasoncyrus said:PPssstttt Wikipedia /= truth.Radelaide said:"Modern medical definitions describe alcoholism as a disease and addiction which results in a persistent use of alcohol despite negative consequences."
