So I guess ultimately Curiosity turns out to be an experiment in... outsourcing trolling?

whose favorite games include Halo 3, Dead Space 3, Assassin's Creed, Battlefield 3

I would say his interest in Fable/anything Molyneux can probably be linked to his overall terrible taste in games.

Somehow I didn't get this "Curiosity" thing at all. I must have been too busy with life or un-life, depending on time and day of the week, but from what I've read on the Escapist, to me it seems like some kind of bizarre lottery or ponzi-scheme disguised as a game.

Anyway, Molyneux seems to have racked in both cash and free advertising at the same time, so I'm starting to believe he might actually be an evil genius after all.

This actually makes the whole Curiosity thing more hilarious than it deserves to be. It also makes a quite unintentional-yet-cogent commentary about the ultimate futility of obsession.

Yep, worst case scenario, at least in my mind. Some random person who didn't give a damn won the whole thing. It wasn't a social experiment, it was a lottery.

I am a bit confused. I thought Curiosity was supposed to take weeks or a couple months to clear away all the blocks to get to the prize. Was not that true or am I thinking of a different game?
It did, but it's not everyone chipping away at their own box, is everyone chipping away at one box, so there was always going to be the one person who chipped away the final bit.

isnt that what curiosity was made for. yes there was the question. "whats in the box" but there is also the question "why are these people doing this." just for the fact that he got the game so recently tells me that he was not just a "whats in the box" guy. but a "why are they doing this. whats the big deal" kind of person who just wanted to see what was up with the box chipping. and his curiosity won him the game.

I'm pleased he won this. Since noone knew what the prize was it's not like he intentionally went out to annoy genuine fans. Those self-proclaimed 'hardcore' fans who harbour such hatred towards him should perhaps redirect their anger towards Molyneux given that his experiment not only allowed for but gave a high percentage chance that this would be the likely outcome.

Personally, I think that someone who hasn't played his previous games could be a good thing for Godus. It means that he's not going to be influenced by the previous games and end up rehashing old ideas. He's been honest with his reaction to the prize and I hope most gamers won't resent him for it.

As someone else mentioned, I fail to see the real relevance of asking his religious beliefs. If the prize was to be influence the next Mario game I doubt they'd ask him about his attitudes towards plumbing or his hatred towards mushrooms...

Is this not always the way though?
The hard core dedicated fans enter, get their friends to enter and the person who doesn't even care too much but entered for the hell of it wins.

*wipes tear*

Damn you winner of the Meet Tony Hadley contest.
I entered what must have been 25 times! :(

To be honest I thought the prize was a little selfish and egotistical on Molynuex part.

Yeah. This is kind of bullshit. People have been working towards seeing what was in that damn cube for a long while now, around 200 days I think. And then this guy just comes along, buys it an hour before it was over, and wins the whole thing? Complete bullshit.

Don't blame the guy for it though, it's not like he intentionally did this. Blame the company responsible for making it possible to do in the first place. And they better hope to god they never reveal anything resembling a "We did it on purpose." The shit-storm from that would probably make the XBox One flak seem like it was the fucking holy grail.

I downloaded the app just to see what all the hype was about, after 20 minutes of breaking blocks I realized just how maddeningly stupid it was. Whoever wins will probably be someone who waited till the last few hours to start tapping anyway.
Good job Peter, you cost a lot of people time and money, but at least some kid who's never played one of your games before will get the embarrassment of winning a prize he did almost nothing to earn and appear in a game he probably wouldn't have even bought otherwise.

So it's like real life.

The majority slog their life away in a cube or on the factory floor while their life drains from them, some kid who so happen to write a hit song is set for life.

However, even though I don't have a problem with him liking mostly action games, it will be problematic if he tries to incorporate action features into a strategic game.
what could he incorporate? iron sights?

Maybe that was in fact the lesson of the Cube all along.

I'm sticking with "There's a sucker born every minute."
I mean, Curiousity was just gambling, when you got right down to it.

Haha, I had a feeling this would happen.

He seems like a pretty decent guy, particularly with being an Atheist who doesn't push his views on others and mock religion and religious people, much respect from me for that.

I just hope he doesn't get abuse for winning only hours after downloading.

On a related note, some of you guys are taking this WAY too seriously.
