Dane Cook made a joke about the Aurora shooting. The joke went as followed: "If [the shootings hadn't] happened, I?m pretty sure that somebody in that theater, realizing [the movie] was a piece of crap, probably was like, ?Ugh, f***ing shoot me,'"

So, here's a thought America. If you don't like someone don't watch them, and if you don't like what someone says, avoid them. Or maybe we should just do away with free speech, because we seem to be repeating this every week with someone in trouble for being a comedian.

[small] Personally I think if we're gonna get onto people for making a joke, we should focus on the rest of Dane Cook's career for not being funny in the slightest. [/small]

By the way? Way to go MSN, way to make that crowd feel bad about themselves for crossing your moral line.

You do realise freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from criticism right? Dane Cook can say what he wants, nobody is taking that right away from him, but that doesn't mean he can't be held accountable and called out on it

Its not like he's getting arrested.

At least Daniel Tosh's joke was somewhat humourous to me, (inb4 butthurt), Dane's joke just sounds painfully unfunny.

The only people trying to take away people's freedom of speech is people like you who think that screaming "Freedom!!!!!!!!!" entitles anyone to say what they want, and and nobodies allowed to call them a useless twatwaffle.

Not a fan of Dane Cook to begin with, but people will say what they will. I think it was tasteless, but it's really none of my concern. He didn't do anything illegal, just not morally sound.

As others have said 'free speech' does not mean 'no one can ever criticize or call me out for what I say!'
People can still criticize you for what you're saying and in extreme cases you can still face consequences for what you say.

Anyway, he's an arsehole. Personally I don't much care for jokes like that because I'm not much of a fan of 'edgy' humour that involves mocking a very recent tragedy. I mean okay a few of my friends have made the occassional jokes but at least they did it somewhere privately and no one heard them say it. It's a million times worse when an incredibly un-pc joke gets told in public like this.
Because you have no way of knowing if the victims families/friends might find out about it and frankly demanding that they 'have a sense of humor' about the deaths of their loved ones for some hack comedian's sake is loathsome.

Frankly Cook should have known better but given that all of his jokes seem to be based on smashing taboos in the interest of shock (and being about as funny as a basket of dead kittens) some might argue this was inevitable. Hopefully this will be the thing that finally teaches him to just shut up and complain about airline food like the rest of us.

Free speech- the right to speak.
Not the right to not have consequences for what you say.
If you go up to a bouncer and call him a wankstain he will probably chuck you on your arse, are you going to ***** about how people are censoring you?

Besides, when was Dane Cook ever funny?

There is freedom of speech but he abused that by offending people. There is still the fact that people have to obey the law, order and respect the families that have lost friends and loved ones. Dane Cook didn't do this/ take these things into consideration; instead he offended people and probably lost a hell of a lot of respect (from fans, friends and family).

I like Dane Cook but... No... Too far.

Not only is it morally questionable it's also a terrible joke. I feel he tried to be edgy and controversial before being funny, which speaks volumes about him as a person.

If he's free to make a joke about the Aurora shooting, we should be free to call him an unfunny douche who's a horrible comedian and deserves a swift kick to the balls.

It was a little too soon. But some times the most interesting jokes are.

I just wish some people would stop considering this a valid reason to end careers. I mean, fuck. If people like them got their way, there'd probably be no one left.

I know, I used the wrong wording, but this sort of thing does get on my nerves. Especially when this sort of smacks of making no sense. Is there really a time when murder becomes okay to joke about? How long does it take for murder to become okay to talk about? Is it a three week limit? Are we talking a few years? We should develop some sort of time frame here.

Yeah, see how stupid that sounds? How stupid it sounds to actually say there is a time frame on when murder is funny? It's dark humor for a reason, it does stuff like this to illicit laughs from a specific audience. Is the holocaust and holocaust jokes really that much more acceptable because years have passed? Or is it acceptable because as a society we've moved to a point where we can dehumanize the victims as the stuff of history books. Nameless people referenced on the history channel or in history classes? Or how about those hilarious jokes about how all of the Native Americans were systematically killed?

I'm not saying you have to find it funny, I mean its Dane Cook, nothing he says is funny. But come on, really? REALLY?

"It's not acceptable yet, let's wait a week."

I think Dane Cook's pretty funny. That joke's not. And not because it was offensive, it just isn't funny.

Meh, not even a good joke.

I have absolutely no problem with jokes about the shooting or anything else.

What I do have a problem with is unfunny jokes.
