I know, I used the wrong wording, but this sort of thing does get on my nerves. Especially when this sort of smacks of making no sense. Is there really a time when murder becomes okay to joke about? How long does it take for murder to become okay to talk about? Is it a three week limit? Are we talking a few years? We should develop some sort of time frame here.

Yeah, see how stupid that sounds? How stupid it sounds to actually say there is a time frame on when murder is funny? It's dark humor for a reason, it does stuff like this to illicit laughs from a specific audience. Is the holocaust and holocaust jokes really that much more acceptable because years have passed? Or is it acceptable because as a society we've moved to a point where we can dehumanize the victims as the stuff of history books. Nameless people referenced on the history channel or in history classes? Or how about those hilarious jokes about how all of the Native Americans were systematically killed?

I'm not saying you have to find it funny, I mean its Dane Cook, nothing he says is funny. But come on, really? REALLY?

"It's not acceptable yet, let's wait a week."
I reckon it's more "It's not acceptable yet, let's wait until it's not so fresh in everyones minds".

Dane Cook made a joke about the Aurora shooting. The joke went as followed: "If [the shootings hadn't] happened, I?m pretty sure that somebody in that theater, realizing [the movie] was a piece of crap, probably was like, ?Ugh, f***ing shoot me,'"

So, here's a thought America. If you don't like someone don't watch them, and if you don't like what someone says, avoid them. Or maybe we should just do away with free speech, because we seem to be repeating this every week with someone in trouble for being a comedian.

[small] Personally I think if we're gonna get onto people for making a joke, we should focus on the rest of Dane Cook's career for not being funny in the slightest. [/small]

By the way? Way to go MSN, way to make that crowd feel bad about themselves for crossing your moral line.

The Right to Free Speech only guarantees the capability to say whatever shit you want.

It does NOT protect you from any consequences, thus "FIRE!" in a Theater is an arrestable offense, despite your Right to say it.

Dane Cook has always been funny as a 2'x4' to me. His entire Schtick is "OH MA GOD ARE I NOT OFFENSIVE?!" It's one clip played over and over with a fuck-me smug tone that makes him funny to college douchebags and no one else.

That he's in the "news" (aka - Rebellious nitwits who need to be IN UR FACE about something they enjoy) twice in about a month just tells me he's way past his peak.

*sigh* Another day, another unfunny comedian saying something stupid.
Are there even any funny comedians left that don't make a living by writing for a tv show or acting?

Who cares whether it's a good joke or not? I think part of being a stand up comedian is getting the audience on your side by showing that you're ballsy enough to not have to cater to their emotions. The joke doesn't sound that funny on paper, but I bet if I was in the room when he said it, I'd be laughing in a "OH NO HE DIDN'T" kind of way.

Sounds like most people in this topic agree with his right to express himself, even if the joke is "in poor taste", so that's good to see.

I have nothing against Dane Cook. My sister likes him, I went to a show of his, I laughed, so there must be something worth laughing at.

You do realise freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom from criticism right? Dane Cook can say what he wants, nobody is taking that right away from him, but that doesn't mean he can't be held accountable and called out on it
This does make sense, though.
