Just got the demo on PSN yesterday. Some thoughts

- God of War clone, even Wolverine Origins didn't rip of so much, every single action in the game is a direct rip off of GoW, at least we get to see what GoW 2.8 plays like

- Christian Imagery, wow I am pleasantly surprised that they included so much Christian imagery into the game, Dante's arrows are actually "Cross Beams" shot out from a Cross, the magic attack they gave you even ends with a cross. You can 'Damn' or 'Absolve' demons you fight for skills to be unlocked 'Infamous' style, Good/Evil etc.

Instead of hiding behind PC ambiguous Zombie/Demon/Ghost runes or stuff. I guess they're trying to sell it on the offensive qualities.

This might be the best Christian game ever made.

It was based on a poem that described Hell, that was written by a Catholic man during the Renaissance, of course there is going to be Christian imagery. They aren't going to change the very basis of the source material.

Have you actually read "La Divina Commedia"? Of course the game is Christian since religion played a large role in Dantes writing of that poem.

Well it's interesting to see this done from a different perspective, if it works its cool they're doing something original. But I thought it was pretty obvious that it would be from a christian protagonist POV, given that's what the source material is based on.

The entire concept of hell is based of christianity so of course you'll find religious aspects. As long as i don't have to believe in anything the game tells me to i'm ok with it

There have been many ridiculous adaptations with little or no regard to the source material, it would have been fair to assume that Dante's Inferno might not have been all that true to its' inpiration

Plot spoiler! (Because I'm a dick!)
The Devil will use Dante as a tool for entering Paradise, thus paving the way for sequals. What? You couldn't tell from the trailers?

The Devine Comedy
The game will be very loosely based on the book. VERY loosely.

Yeah beetween hacking at demon babies with a scythe and shooting them with lazer crosses I doubt you'll experiance any sort of spiritual epiphany. Shame real christianity is so boring I might even reconsider my position on religion/god if they let me shoot lazer crosses :/

Thou shalt not call Dante simply "Catholic man"! He is too awesome to be given such plain nicknames!

He was Catholic and he was a Man, that doesn't leave me a lot of options for a description. Other than adding that he was Italian.

You could say "It his thanks to him Dante from Devil May Cry got his name". If that description doesn't sum up how awesome Dante is, then I don't know what will.

They completely fucked up and mutilated the source material. It's nothing like the poem.

Anyway, I'd much much much much much rather play GOW3. I've found that games that blatantly rip off other games forget what was so good about the game they were copying. I'd rather play the thing it's trying to be like thing than a rip-off. It's like asking if you want a nice new car, or a cheap rip off brand that's all dirty.

I meant more than they already have. If they had taken away Hell and Christian imagery, it couldn't have even been called "Dante's Inferno"

and if you think about it, the steps they took were just creative license. I mean what would have been a better game? Walking around hell looking at scenery or breaking into hell and "killing" everything in your why to save someone...and looking at scenery.

Also I liked the poem but so what if they changed things to make an interesting game and really they never changed the basis of the source material, which is going to hell in search of Beatrice. They just change how you go about it.

Well, I didn't know that, nor do I care, as I was not trying to show how "awesome" he was. What I was trying to explain was why their is so much Christian imagery in the game.

I wouldn't blame God of War for this game. I'm pretty sure the original Devil May Cry came out first. So we can blame that game for this one.

For the entire genre really. Or, for half of all games that have come out since.
