Since when aren't they? The same people that would look down on this are the same that would complain about the game in the first place. Open minded religions don't care one bit about it's premise, as it's all fantasy.

And some religious folks, like myself, who ARE open minded might still be offended by this portrayal. The majority of the religious people I know are the type who wouldn't care about the game. Does that mean that we should also be portrayed as backwards-thinking jerks?

I'm not easily offended, but this ticks me off. The only people who'd object to the game are the EXTREMELY VOCAL MINORITY of the Church. So why do us forward-thinkers get lumped in with them so much?

If you're nothing like them, why would you be offended? You should be laughing at how insane they are like the rest of us, not getting all worked up because (what you think is) a minority are mindless, unquestioning drones.

What I'm being offended by is that this seems to tie being religious to being one of these "mindless drones." Was that their intent? Probably not. But many will see it that way, and I can't blame them.

Just shut up and get off your 'religion is for dumb jerks' soapbox.

It doesn't help that you don't know what you are talking about either. The biggest shallow-minded reactionary here is you.

EDIT:

Before the inevitable flame of being a 'religious troll', I'll point out that I'm not religious and have not been for about 8 years now.

They're either not Christians (some Christian-like cult, at best), or maybe just American Christians are stupider than European Christians...

I mean, they can't even ban Scientology in the country. They really expect people to notice them?

Also, there is a special hell for people trying to force thoughts and beliefs on others.

What he said. Fighting through the 7 layers of hell seems like an interesting concept, but does EA have to develope it? It has more of a God of War feel to it. In fact, didn't you fight through hell (or Hades) in the first God of War?
You actually fight through Hades in all three of them (1, 2 and Chains of Olympus). And Hell has 9 layers (a.k.a. circles), you're thinking of the 7 terraces of Purgatory.

On topic: Retarded publicity stunt, but it seems like I am the only one who is even somewhat excited about this game...

As far as publicity stunts go, there's nothing better than a good old fashioned protest to get people's attention, which seems to have worked quite will in this case.

Upon seeing the tile, I thought the game was being protested because it butchers classic literature.

Of course, it just seems to be a stupid publicity stunt.
That's what I thought at first, too! I was getting all excited, then read the article and felt sad that no, it was religious fundies, then awestruck by EA's sheer fail.

My love for EA continues to decline. The last game released under the EA logo that I enjoyed was Starflight on the Sega Genesis. Anyone remember this one? Since then they've been in a steady downward spiral.

Not to mention this seems very offensive to Christians.

I think the game looks awesome. Before anyone replies, know that I only got a PlayStation 3 last Christmas and a PlayStation 2 about a year and half prior to that. so I'm way behind in gaming. Also know that I actually enjoyed "Beowulf" and "Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness"

Ok...show of hands, is anyone any more than indifferent to this game?
*raises hand*

... oh, wait, MORE than indifferent?

*puts hand down*

To be honest, I never heard of this game until I read this article. I can only assume I haven't missed anything.
You're quite right, it's just a bastardization of a classic book. Not even worth a look.
That's like turning Watchmen into an arcade brawler. Oh wait...

...Where's Virgil?

This is an insult of the highest degree to those who have read one of the greatest works of classic literature of all time! I don't care if the game is fun or not, EA should try to stay remotely close to the source material when basing a game on something. Did anyone there even read the book?

It's an offense to Christians. It's an offense to classic literature fans. And above all, it's an insult to gamers as a whole. No, EA, you go to hell!

But it now looks like the whole thing was nothing more than a Domains By Proxy [http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technology/2009/06/e3-update-on-dantes-inferno-protest.html], which lets people put up websites anonymously.
Maybe it's EA's way of saying "in b4 religious nutjobs." Discrediting the wackos before they begin.

A Praystation sounds like a Chinese PS3.
But that's not a dick move. That's like making a dick shaped car, and dropping it out of a plane in to a 9.5 earthquake zone.
