The Dark Crystal really feels like a product of the eighties to me, so it'll be interesting to see how a sequel turns out. I can't honestly imagine it having the same feel to it as the original though, but I suppose it can still be varied and interesting.

HA! Thats awesome!

Granted I'm not too thrilled on the CGI stuff... I recently saw the first one last year, and I loved how it didn't go all CGI. I really hope they don't put a lot into the movie.
There might be a good reason for that. It was impossible to do CG in 1982 (Tron doesn't count).

This isn't intended as a dig at you, just saying, heavy CG in a film doesn't really start until Jurassic Park or so.
Yeah, I know when it was made. I just don't want to see an interesting and good series turn into another CGI fantasy adventure...
Wait, what? You know when it was made, but compliment them on their decision to avoid using technology that didn't exist... ...why does my headmeats hurt? :(
Guess I worded it wrong...

When I said how it didn't have CGI, its because these days I find myself liking films without CGI, regardless of when they were made.

Yeah, there was a disconnect between your word choice and that sentiment.

This could be awesome. In the Labyrinth/Dark Crystal divide, I'm on the DC side. I really hope they don't destroy one of the best things about my childhood

You know, they keep announcing this sequel every few years. Last time around was I think four years ago in the back of Dark Crystal manga. I'll just wait and see if it escapes development hell this time.

I've been waiting for this. DC has one of the best lines ever:
"Wings? I don't have wings."
"Of course not. You're a boy."
I hope they get this right. Going to see it regardless though.

Why?, why not i say, even if they have like a 99% "its sure to suck" rate, ill root for that 1% for it to at least "compare", i loved daybreakers and undead so im happy whit the directors, the writers are no slouchs either, even the effects company have some nice works on theyr backs, besides you have to be over 35 years old or so to even remember the original, so theyr bringin it to a whole new generation and is sure to be a kid oriented movie so there is no way we could see it whit the same eyes we had when we saw the original, i know kids that LOVE the new star wars movies and say that the old ones "look crappy" (actual quote from a 10 year old nephew after seein the original trilogy like a week before seein episodeIII in teathers) so were screwed unless we could go back in time "unsee" the original then go to the future while still as kids and see the new one, there is no way to have a real say in how good it is or not.

Perhaps this is a good prediction of what motion picture association of america will do to this franchise.

EDIT: sorry didn't see the above post.

Dark Crystal used to freak me out, but I still loved it. I'm surprised they thought their was a market for a sequel though.

The Dark Crystal was one of the staples of my childhood, so I'm both excited and nervous about the sequel. It's very reassuring that so much effort seems to be going into retaining what made the first movie great, but still, it's a sequel to a movie that doesn't really need one, and that rarely goes well.
QFT. Now, Clash of the Titans I was essentially certain was going to suck and not live up to the original, but with the information we have now there is enough going for this one that I have hope.

I was derided by my friends way back when--like the 5th or 6th grade or something-- for liking The Dark Crystal, and I defended it, and hey, looks like I wasn't the only one. It also may have been my first definitive steps to geek-dom.

I actually knew about this MONTHS and MONTHS ago. but I am quite honestly over the fricken MOON about this. I LOVE the dark crystal. and it seems that everyone in charge of this sequel understands that it has to be treated as respectfully as the first one. I have no doubt that this has TONS of potential. But i will say this, The first movie was EPIC. it was my first epic movie I ever saw, so they had better fukn make this thing epic. They had better do it right.

The first stirrings I was hearing about the sequel involved re-sundering the Crystal. I hope those plans have been put to rest... But I still don't know that this is a movie with a good reason to exist, beyond the continuous need to cannibalize older properties and the desperate attempt to re-kindle the fading glory of Henson's Creature Workshop.

'Excited and nervous' is exactly how I'd describe my feelings, too.

I'm really fond of the original film, and what I enjoyed most was how detailed the world that Henson and Oz created was.

On the one hand, I'd love to see more stories from the world that Henson and Oz created because I feel there is more to tell in that fiction; but on the other hand I'm not entirely sure a new project without Henson and Oz would be what I'm looking for.

I'll definetly end up seeing it, but I'm actually kinda surprised that a new Dark Crystal film is being made. I don't imagine that it would attract a large audience these days.

I'll definately have to check it out. I'll have to watch the first one aswell, it's been too many years since I would've last watched it. It'll great for some good old nostalgia. Wether the sequel is good or bad at least it will have persuaded me to wath the original again.
