...or whatever it's going to be called.

I'm having an absolute blast with Dark Souls, the difficulty curve is absolutely spot on and despite a few frustrating deaths I keep going back to it!

What would you like to see from Dark Souls 2?

I think they need to keep the same combat system but simply expand it. A more open world wouldn't go amiss but it'd have to keep the atmosphere of Dark Souls. A more in depth magic system wouldn't be bad either...perhaps with a mana bar as opposed to only having limited cast spells so you could go completely magic if you really wanted.

The lore is pretty interesting too, I like the ambiguity of it but I would definitely welcome some mysterious characters and NPCs.

Go back to an upgrade system similar to Demon's Souls.
Have some more NPCs, add a few more of those 'meeting up' side quest things.
Less linear. The dungeon design is generally great but excluding a few little secrets here and there it's a mostly straight line to the end.
More weapon types in terms of attack patterns.

Wouldn't it be Dark Souls 3?...or whatever its going to be called. I would say, the next Souls game.

First game was Demons Souls, Second was Dark Souls.

OT: Demons Souls is amazing and although I haven't got to Dark Souls yet, I am sure it is amazing also. So they should just keep what they are doing!

Two armour sets.

The first set is what your character benefits from stat wise.

The second set is purely for aesthetic purposes.

I'm sick of seeing other players wearing mixes of armour sets, especially when I see male characters running around with dresses on because they're the best stat wise :D

I hate having to look like I've just fallen out of wardrobe just to stay on par with other players in PvP.

Dark Souls is only a spiritual successor to Demon's Souls, not an actual sequel.

Then their third souls game should also be a spiritual successor. They should keep it going with the different soul names.

: Corrupt Souls
: Hell Souls
: Light Souls?
: Evil Souls
: Wicked Souls
: Vile Souls

Most probably Dragon's Souls. I can see it being called Dragon Souls. And there being a few dragons. Also:

Dread Souls
Dead Souls
Damned Souls
Devil's Souls

etc. etc.

Make using two weapons at once a viable strategy and make ones shield and sword hand interchangable. By the way I'm saying "sword" in place of whatever weapon you like to use.

And let me bloody pause the game!

Yea, dungeon design (in terms of intricacy) has been really lame in modern RPGs. The atmosphere is great in Dark Souls, but imagine that same atmosphere with the complexity of a wizardry like layout, say ?

From that link, I'd be happy with one more like Dragon Age open-endedness, but probably a bit more sprawling.
I'm not really a fan of the idea of a massive 'ohgodwherethefuckamigoing' type dungeon but just having maybe, 3 or 4 paths through any given place without shortcutting 80% of it would be a nice change.

I know this is going to be an incredibly unpopular opinion, and not very realistic, but cut out the multiplayer.

Stop looking at me like that.

I know, I know, loads of people love the multiplayer, but it adds nothing to my personal experience. 99% of the messages are blindingly obvious, useless or just trolling, I don't care about pvp, and summoning players makes the boss fights too easy. I'd much rather they stopped trying to balance loads of shit for this aspect of the game, and focused on a good single player. But as I said, it ain't gonna happen anyway, so there's no point in yelling about it.

Other things: Better upgrade system, I feel like stat scaling kinda got shafted, and it would make the game more interesting if you actually had to grab a weapon that fit your stats, instead of just any "class" being incredibly badass with a +5 lightning Uchigatana. All weapons should derive their damage from one stat or another.

I also think Endurance should kinda be split into two stats. Why? Well, if I'm playing a certain build, I might not want any more equip load, while I would like more stamina. I'd prefer two stats, with an obviously heightened effect when raised, one for equip load and one for stamina. This is just a minor quibble though, and it might be a flawed idea.

Better dual wielding would definitely kick ass, with some unique attack patterns when certain weapon types (say right hand long sword and left hand dagger) are combined.

The covenants were a good idea, but their implementation was totally half-assed. Really, with a bit more time, I'm sure FROM could have done this right, so I'm sure we'll see a better result next time, if they try again.

I would personally prefer a return to a Hub-based world like Demon's Souls. I know people like their open world and whatnot, but Demon's Souls was actually much more free in the order of which parts of the game you wanted to tackle. So either design the world in a way that you can actually venture to the different locations in the order which you like, which you mostly couldn't in Dark, or go back to the Nexus system.

That's all I can think of right now. To be honest, I'd be content with just MORE Dark Souls, as goddamn good as it already is, but I doubt FROM is content to simply rest on their laurels. I look forward to whatever they come up with. (But not how long that will probably still be :( )

One thing that would be really cool would be to be able to switch between right and left-handed. So if your character was lefty, they would hold a shield in the right hand and weapon in the left, and the shoulder buttons would be reversed for them. Same animations, but flipped horizontally. It would be a relatively simple change that could lead to interesting strategies.

On the subject of hands, I feel like the game should add some kinds of extra attack combo possibilities for dual-wielding weapons. Like a simultaneous attack or something.

Also, lip sync. It's kind of weird seeing a modern game where people talk and their mouths either don't move or just cycle the same talking animation. I'm sure they'll have a bigger budget for their next game and they'll be able to get this little detail in.

Take a look at the Oscar of Astora fight and build from there (the best fight I had in the game).

Stop the game from being so block heavy. More offensive/aggressive playstyles should be rewarded.

Don't make items so godlike. Doesnt matter what levels you have, you can beat the game. But without the right items, it will take you 2000x longer to do so.

Yea, I loved when the actual dungeon became an obstacle itself (not only the layout, but traps/puzzles..) as well as the things inhabiting it. Wizardry 4's Cosmic Cube, I'm looking at you.
That's a good point actually, for a game that apparently has "unnoticeable instant kill traps around every corner", the only places that were really "trapped" were Sen's and kind of Blighttown.
More actual traps would certainly be interesting, both from a gameplay and lore perspective.

They should team up with Bethesda on the next Elder Scrolls game. Imagine if Skyrim had the combat system from Dark Souls. *droooool*

No, they have nothing in common except being almost the exact sames games.

Dark Souls was made as a "spiritual successor" in order to go behind Sony and release the title for Xbox also. Since Sony owns the rights to Demon's Souls IP, Dark Souls can never have any link to that game unless the developers want to see Sony's lawyers throwing a fiasco.

The problem with that is that it would cut out a large chunk of the overall theme of Dark Souls. It would make you that one particular hero who is destined to kick ass...but in Dark Souls you are NOT special. There are hundreds of thousands of other Undead just like you running around trying to accomplish the same goal, every one of them just as capable of as you are. That's a part of the story that multilayer builds on that I rather enjoy.

How about some actual difficulty instead of that artificial BS in Dark Souls that could be so easily pyro'd though.

Another fight like the storm ruler.

Optional pvp off-switch.

Pausing.
