not really, the writer may have some knowledge of specific characteristics through experience with a troubled person but that doesn't mean the writer had those problems. In the end, what do I know, I'm just Acting like a fool.

Is this seriously a surprise to anyone? I've known this shit for years now, they're just now figuring this out? It's not exactly groundbreaking. Call me a nerd or SW-obsessed but I would just like to think of myself as observant when it comes to things that fascinate me. This psychoanalysis of Vader in my inner circle is securely old news where I come from.

Haha, he is a very inconsistent character especially in the prequels. All this time I've chalked it up to bad writing but it's a psychological problem! If only someone had realised sooner he wasn't just two dimensional characters prone to changing his mind when it suited the plot then...then there wouldn't have been the three great movies of the series. Nevermind.

they should psycho analyze the final fantasy characters, they'll be busy for years.

What?

I thought it was a well known fact that Darth Vader was psychologically unsound.

This is funny. They diagnosed a fictional character. Really serious I see...

You guys do know that academics do this sort of thing all the time, right? It's called an academic exercise. It also makes it easier for a layman to understand where the academics are coming from.

Personally I find it quite interesting, and I hope they do it with more well-known characters too.

Thats...interesting. No actually I said all along that I thought Anakin was supposed to be somewhat mentally challenged (the PT Anakin, anyway) because he reminds me of my brother who is not mentally challenged, borderline. I have a much longer theory about this but the entire topic got deleted on a board about Star Wars that I frequent, and if they don't want to hear it, I'm not gonna waste my text anywhere else :p

Could it be that his particular character archetype is based pretty much on the textbook definition of that diagnosis?

I dunno, it couldn't be that simple... could it?

Judging by the fact that they have just analyzed a fictional character from a fantasy trilogy that takes place in space, I think it's safe to say that these psychologists are suffering from ODD. Obsessive Diagnosis Disorder.
Or as i like to call it: gin and tonic

Ahh so this is where the scientist who told us archaeologist aren;t like Indiana Jones on Cnn.com where Indy 4 came out.

Still haven't figured out why they FIRED you there?

Maybe you keep trying to make lame stories with pop culture figures?

Wow must not be hard to be a scientist anymore...

Look I have a study on,

Pointless News stories linking to pop culture icons and lame ties to everyday life when scientist is to be studying serious science, cause for scientist to lose job.

Why a guy who murders people for fun, and with magic powers choke you over a videophone?
Sounds like someone I'd hang out with...

Least long enough to introduce him to my ex-wife.

After seeing this story floating around for a while now on the Escapist, I assumed from the title that it meant the actor who played Darth Vader was diagnosed with a mental disorder, and I kept thinking, 'slightly offensive to just call him Darth Vader without using his real name'.

I had no idea that someone would actually diagnose an on-screen character

Really?

Is there honestly nothing better to do with there time?

They have to diagnose movies?
Hmmm.
He murders hundreds of thousands of people in cold blood, and attempted to murder his wife, son, and daughter on many occasions.

they mite be onto something.

Guess it's a pretty sweet case study...

Not sure whether they could've spent the time analysing Darth Vader better...
