This is not news. War is news. Terrorism is news. Miracles are news. This is a bunch of 'professionals' diagnosing a fictional persona.

Ummm... okay? Why? Do these people have nothing better to do than to diagnose a FICTIONAL CHARACTER?

And stop diagnosing VADER!!! Seriously, all I want to know about Vader is that he can choke people from 5 friggin planets away! Don't make him seem like he's less badass with a DIAGNOSIS! If these people keep doing this, well, I'm gonna have to choke a *****.

This is the escapist. You want war, terrorism, and hard news? Go troll the cnn forums.

Using fictional characters, especially well known ones as practice "case studies" seems a good way to put things in layman's terms, and make sure the audience is already familiar with the subject.

I'm imagining the therapy sessions;

Therapist: So, Mr Vader, tell me about your father.

Darth Vadar: I didn't have one, I was born by immaculate conception.

In my gaming group, we have a theory about that. Anakin had a father, one that Shmi was completely unwilling to admit to. "Whaaat, you finished already??? I'm a Toydarian, we go for days! This is jast geeting started!"

Considering his life, actions and psyche were written by a few different people, I'd say he's also suffering from some sort of multiple personality disorder, and probably an overwhelming feeling that he's not really in control of his own life.

I'd even go as far as to say he's got some kind of paranoid persecution complex, because since the advent of Youtube and Chad Vader, he feels that people are laughing at him.

...Well of course. And I suppose the Joker is manic-depressive? And let's not forget Norman Osborn's schizophrenia, or Lex Luthor's obsessive-compulsive disorder.
I'd say that the Joker is more schizophrenic than Norman Osborn. The Joker reinvents his personality every day.
I agree with you, but I find his bipolar disorder is more prevalent, especially when Harley is around.

I don't think I could even accept the idea that this is just spreading awareness. As good as it is in theory, spreading awareness of some mental disorders can lead to "copy cats". We're in an age in society where some people are looking for a label so badly, they're willing to accept a psychiatric label.

So how long did it take them to figure this out? when people 30 years ago when the movie first came out the fans knew this?

Really?

Is there honestly nothing better to do with there time?

They have to diagnose movies?
They have free will.. they are allowed to do whatever they want? Is there honestly nothing better to do with your time than posting on a website? It's the same thing, except they are more productive than you. I don't understand the amount of "OMG WASTE OF TIME" They didn't get paid to do this, they did it because they wanted to. They actually did something interesting with their free time. What have any of you done? Anything news worthy? Of course not, you guys probably spend 5x the amount of time they took on this, surfing the web and looking at porn, get over yourselves.

Anyway OT: I think it's cool. I wonder if they meant to do that, or it just happened.

This to infinity. He is a character. Any problems with him are problems with the writer.
Because people obviously pay attention more when they talk about Vader than when they talk about the particular guy who wrote the character. Like someone else already said: People relate to it more, therefore more people will pay attention. The character itself may be fictional, but the behaviour he shows is still very much human behaviour, which can be acted out be any real person on this planet.

Also this news is not ridiculous, it's entertaining and interesting at the same time. At least it is to me. I'd rather diagnose Darth Vader than the autistic guy spending his whole day crossing the same street.

Now this was worth reading ^~^! True it's kind of silly to psychoanalyze a movie character, but I found it to be in the spirit of fun. I could feel the humorous slant to the whole idea. In my opinion it would be best not to take it so seriously. I would take it as is and just have a good laugh at the idea. This article did get a smile out of me ^~^!

Well Psychotherapy would have worked is debatable. All that I know is that if it worked episodes 4,5 and 6 never would have happened. A world where only the prequels exist is not a world I want to live in.

Judging by the fact that they have just analyzed a fictional character from a fantasy trilogy that takes place in space, I think it's safe to say that these psychologists are suffering from ODD. Obsessive Diagnosis Disorder.
This made me laugh wholeheartedly.
Well done.

OT: Yeah, I had always assumed Darth Vader had a few childhood issues and maybe a few issues of self worth given that he has a master who seems determined to replace him with Luke as an apprentice. But still you don't need to be a psychologist to know that Darth Vader had issues.
