*Phew* For a minute there, I thought James Earl Jones was getting mental sickness. Thankfully, it's just a bunch of malarky.

I'm sure they weren't payed for this. I think it all started as a care free debate at lunch and they elaborated on it just for fun.
... Or at least I hope. o_O

Um...duh?

He's a villain. You have to have a mental illness to do the things typical villains do.
Seconded. Anyone would be hard-pressed to find a villain in fiction who dosen't have some sort of issues. Normal person wouldn't pick his everyday clothes to look as scary as possible, or kill people because they "have failed him for the last time".

And the fact that evil (especially tangible forms of it) is like drugs is kind of an obvious analogy too.

I don't understand the amount of "OMG WASTE OF TIME" They didn't get paid to do this, they did it because they wanted to. They actually did something interesting with their free time. What have any of you done? Anything news worthy? Of course not, you guys probably spend 5x the amount of time they took on this, surfing the web and looking at porn, get over yourselves.
I also second this.

And with this, I hope all the fantards will stop following the franchise and go become doctors and help rid the world of diseases.

This is stupid. Unless they did it in their spare time, in which case it's pretty cool, but not worthy of in-depth analysis. He is just a character.
There are literally hundreds of thousands of psychoanalysis papers on art, like Monet paintings and films, so why not this.

After reading 3 pages of people posting facepalm pictures and saying 'waste of time' ad nauseum, I am officially very disappointed with the Escapist crowd. 1), what happened to poeple's sense of humour? 2), why are people so quick to assume that a single article has ALL the relevant facts therein? 3), what happened to people's sense of humour? and 4), what on Earth makes it so hard to realise the context of the study? Is it just that most of the posters clicked 'reply' before actually reading the article?

A waste of time? What, to quickly write a report based on general knowledge about an iconic character, comparing him to a list of symptoms and behaviours? I doubt that this took much time to do at all, and what it succeeds in doing is presenting these illnesses in a memorable way that (most) people wouldn't switch off to.

Is it just that the character is Darth Vader? I know fans can be very defensive, but the reaction is here is rediculous. And a lot of similar things have been done by scientists in profiling superheroes. Why? Because such characters are archetypal and easy to use for showing a point. Real people are far more complex.

What's this? Star Wars thread?

Hehe. Funny.

But not true. In the "never turning evil" aspect, I mean.

Anakin was the chosen one, and had to bring balance to the force. This would've happened whether he had mental medical assistance or not.

And now I slip back into posting witty one-liners.

"So, what brought you to this conclusion?"

Vell vat ve see in Vader is a man tied by the complex emotions

"You do know it's a film, don't you?"

Yes, but Jung has said...

"Sod Carl, did you just watch the bits where he killed people with a wave of his hand, and thought 'he might not be right in the head'"

I just wanted to be in the news. I have abandonment issues.

Actually I agree. They must have used the Episode 1 to 3 movies as a basis and concluded that Darth Vader is a self cutting emo. Though you don't need a PhD in psychology to see that.

Don' tell me Episode 1-3 did not happen. Tell these psychologists. I could see them doing more useful things with tax money than watching movies.
