i was wondering How many People have heard of deaths that made you think 'What?' before anything else.
Wikipedia states the Darwin award is bestowed on a person who "do a service to Humanity by removing themselves from the Gene pool"
id like to hear from the Escapist community, who have you heard of Deserving of this award?

http://www.darwinawards.com/ would prolly be more interrestin than the wiki link.

The awards are an awesome testimony to the utter stupidity that corrupts mankind

The man who jumped out of a plane to film parachuters, forgetting his own parachute made me laugh.
Ya, some are tragic, but they're so funny.

Also the man demonstrating the strength of the "indestructible" window, only to fall 27 stories (or somewhere close to that) to his death.
These things are great.

I love the one where the terrorist made an envelope bomb but didn't use enough postage to make it to its destination.

One day he got an envelope with 'RETURN TO SENDER' on it - he opened it, and BOOM!

It really should not be funny, but we're all a little demented inside.

My dad attempted to fly by attaching aluminum wings to his back via super glue, then stuck himself on a fence, where he died.

Not to be cruel, but I feel that's stupid enough to deserve the award. I can only hope those genes haven't been passed onto me.

Shit, that's the Y gene. I'm screwed.

Wow. Either:

a) I can't work out whether this is the saddest or most ridiculous thing I've ever heard, or

b) Nice story there, bro.

I think my favourite is either this [http://www.darwinawards.com/darwin/darwin1993-10.html], or the one about the guy that tried to play russian roulette with an automatic pistol and volunteered to take the first shot.

I have the second book of Darwin Awards and they are hilarious!

My favorite would have to be the one where the guy is filling his lawnmower with at funnel made from a Styrofoam cup and is smoking a cigarette at the same time. I can't remember if he actually died of if he just got honorable mention. Either way, just plain stupid.

I think once you turn 16 you should get mental & physical tests and if you fail one you get the gift of sterilization.

I don't find these at all funny. These people died, and it's unfair to judge their intelligence based off one (sadly fatal) mistake.
Some, yes. But some are just so insanely stupid that fairness just doesn't apply.

The best one I saw was the guy who killed himself trying to see if his jacket was 'stab-proof' while wearing it. lol

ah the darwin awards have reignited my faith in natural selection.

anyway my favourite: A guy was trying to shoot stuff with his gun, the gun wouldn't fire so he looks down the barrel and pulls the trigger.

I just don't see what is so funny about these. Yes they can be ironic, but I'm not about to laugh

Technically, he's disqualified for being still in the gene pool - i.e. he's your father and hence lived long enough to breed.

Btw, if this is true, sorry for your loss.
