I actually met my fiancee via Craig's List personals, but that was after several good prospect but not quite hits. I think they work reasonably well, especially if you don't have other available avenues for meeting people (a diverse office/school/a desire to go to bars).
ya, my friends thought it would be "funny" to make me a profile on that site, cougar life. ill admit, some of the cougars there are kinda ok looking, but most just terrify me. they set me up to say i only enjoy women above the age of 65. i keep getting emails. im very scared.
Nah, I stick to crappy online RPGs. It's like relationship roulette. Sometimes you get an adopted rape victim with issues (then again, it seems like everyone playing this particular RPG was one), sometimes you get a god amongst men.

What if I come across a """""female""""" who's using a super attractive photo of some model just to lure me into meeting them at some place where they can drug me up, and steal all my belongings, find out where I live, go there, steal my little Pekingese puppy, and sell her on doggy eBay for oodles of cash or something?

It's not that easy for some of us. As far as finding it pathetic I think you should be a lot less judgmental. A lot of people find love via dating sites. Can you really blame a person for wanting to find someone? Why not try different options? Besides I find it far more "pathetic" when people go barhopping and grind on the dance floor to find a partner. At least this way you are getting to know a person a bit before you decide if you want to play pelvic penuchle with them.Armored Prayer said:

A friend suggested I go on just to see if I could talk to different women, realize some people are interested in me, and regain some confidence. It had the opposite effect and no one replied to me, so I just chalk it up to I've got crap luck with women or am seriously missing the ball on how to talk to them.
Either way, I'd say go for it, if you meet someone great, if you don't, then oh well right?

I'd use one myself (cause I'm lonely) but my relationships never last so....so fuck it, but my mom uses one and i can tell you (depending on you and the people you meet) it DOES work

My idea of a girlfriend is not a women who has a child/pregnant to a drug using neglectful father who will return later in the future to claim his child, nor do I have any interest in women who's profile looks like this:
"yo im [name], in from da newy, i like hangn wif ma mates n going out clubn."
So after 2 weeks I deleted my account and gave it the finger.

Say I go to a bar, or a club, actively looking for someone interesting. These places are intended to house a large group of people are not really acclimated to conversation. The most I ever get from places like that is a hook up.
An online site would be more like a singles event. With one added perk, you know as well as everyone else knows that everyone there is actually looking for and interested in a relationship. All you can know at a singles event is that everyone showed up there alone.
It also allows you to skip the hassle of finding out the sexual orientation, broad likes and dislikes, and various other hurdles along the path to a relationship. It adds a lot of much needed help to people in an increasingly insular society.
I used one, when work was taking upwards of 90% of my waking time. I lost touch with many of my friends, worked seven days a week. I could hardly interact enough within my own social circle let alone branch out to meet new people.
Which is what it is about, you make it sound like you think people are dating through their computers. What does it matter how you meet, or if you first talk through a chatroom, email, or over the phone. It is the same process, and the same outcome. Eventually you date, or you don't get along well enough and you don't.
However keep in mind that these are the same people you are going to meet wherever you go. You might only get a break if you start hanging out at groups devoted to some hobby or another of your's.

Eh let people try it, just realize the potential for drugged up rapists, like everywhere else on the internet.
