Interesting show from Rooster Teeth where if you fall asleep you die. First episode is free and I'm glad to be a sponsor because personally I found it really engaging.

How long would you last without sleep?

78 hours without stims, somewhere around 120 with them. Speaking from experience here, my time in the military had some pretty harsh demands for a short time.

I went 6 and a half days once (about 14 years ago), with the help of well... stimulants. I had heard you could 'trip' off of sleep deprivation, it was the stupidest thing I've ever done. Honestly if we ever face a situation where if you sleep you die, I'd rather just die without turning into a raving lunatic first.

The longest I've been up was about 96 hours. And then I slept for 24 hours straight.

When I went to Iraq, I operated for an entire month on about 2 hours of sleep a day, if you count basically sleep walking my way through getting dressed and going to work in the 'morning.' But we were the first Battalion in the Brigade to get out communications 50% up, 80% up, and 100% up. And that came with some nice perks for the rest of my tour, so I suppose it was worth it.

The first time my mum went away and left me in the house on my own (my two sisters were there but being teenagers I didn't see either of them the entire time), I suddenly became very aware of every single creak that the house made and became convinced that if I fell asleep murderers would come in and get me. Leave me alone I was 11.

So I did the reasonable thing and did not sleep for three days until she came back (because my mum has magical murderer-repellent powers? I don't know. It makes sense when you're 11). Naturally I spent the entire time on the Playstation playing Devil May Cry and Zone of The Enders.

Now, however, I'm ready to go to bed at like 9, so I wouldn't last long. (Except tonight, boyfriend has a head-cold and his nose was broken years ago so he's breathing like Darth Vader calling a sex line, there's no way I can sleep next to that).

Now imagine what happens to people who have survived by doing a lot of cocaine?

Fun fact: people die after approximately three months without sleep.

We know this because there's a super rare genetic condition out there that kicks in at middle age. It starts as a nasty case of insomnia and eventually outright prevents victims from falling asleep. They die after about three months.

Longest I've had to go was three consecutive nights without sleep. Not sure how many hours it added up to exactly. No stimulants. It was a shitty week.

There's one thing that bothers me. This is a great idea for a show, but I have to bring attention to the liver. All this talk of the bladder is fine, but prior to that organ, we have the system that fills it up, including your liver (and pancreas), which processes the toxins of your body. This is doing some serious shit to their bodies. You go from zero to all the drugs and stims your body can handle, even if you're not getting a heart attack? Your liver will shut down and your body not long after. That organ is the most durable and regenerative part of your body, but it has limits too. Even if they some how stop this, some people are gonna die.

Definitely, imagine like I said the people using cocaine to stay awake. A doctor would know what cocktail to mix without blowing your heart up but yeah you will fry some organs trying to stay aive.

How long can I last without sleep? About 20 hours. I do love my sleep, at some point I would "rest my eyes" and end up dying.

I suppose I could go longer, but you wouldn't want to be anywhere near me. I get extremely cranky if I don't sleep, as anyone who has ever been on night time standby with me will attest.

If the sleeping doesn't kill me, one of my fellow survivors probably will.

My record is a measly 60 hours.
It was the release of Skyrim, I was financially stable but unemployed.

I'm a light weight. 48 hours was my limit, and I won't be doing it again.

I think it was less than 24 hours.

I panic so much for my pratical driving test (I hate driving) I was literally WIDE AWAKE the night pior to the test (as if my current wide awake mode is a ***** already). I still fail my test thought and no I didn't crash (I hesitate too much)

Without true, restful sleep? Nearly a week, and I was quite a bit crazy at that point. Once, with apparent in hindsight "naps" I was up for almost a month. Now I wasn't awake the whole month, but to me it felt like I wasn't asleep but rather with long periods of blinking. Also neither of the times had any stimulants involved beyond my regular caffeine intake.
The month was due to some fairly traumatic experiences though, and while again I did technically sleep, I did not at all feel like I had and was slowly progressing into a near-psychotic break which thankfully I snapped out of after about 24 hours of uninterrupted exhausted sleep.
Now I regularly get about 3-4 hours sleep then wake for 24+ hours at a time. Insomnia is a part of my life, and no meds have yet to get it under control. It sucks, I love to get good sleep (6-8 hours) and the 3-4 hour periods are frustrating.

Managed to stay awake for 6 days once. *But* it really affected my mood, and it basically makes your body slowly shutdown.
Slept for 2 days straight afterwards.

For some reason I would expect sooner. Like a month max with zero sleep.

Your facts aren't any fun...in fact, they are kinda anti-fun facts :(

OT: About 3 days during DragonCon. Went a little loopy near the end. Friends were driving back so I crashed then.

I've done 2 and a half days and that left me feeling like crap, it was with no stims, never want to do it again.

Fatal familial insomnia. Yeah, it's a very rare prion disease of the brain. Patients end up in an accelerated dementia-like state. Quite horrifying, really. They recommend those with it, refrain from having children, as it has a 50% chance of inheritance even if only one parent possesses the gene for it.
