Wow, maybe i'll actually start reading them, without having to worry about 1000 years worth of continuity
Exactly .. this will help new comers pick the character they want to read about without having to worry about tons of previous story, cross-overs and back history .. a clean slate .. hope Marvel does the same XD

I've always wanted to get into the DC Universe, but honestly, unless you study the history, there was no easy way in. With Marvel, The Ultimate line up was perfect. This seems to take that same idea. Though maybe instead of a reboot, they could have gone te same way Marvel went so the current universe isn't touched.

Plus, Digital Comics that are up to date? Brilliant and about time. Marvel needs to do the exact same thing with its Digital store now. Then they can have my money.

Well I hope for the sake of DC, that their stories also get better. I've given several DC comics a shot and I just can't get into most of them. Over the last 6 or so years that I've been actively reading comics again the only ones I've stuck with thus far are Wonder Woman, Power Girl, and Birds of Prey (the recent restart of the series.) I followed Titans and Justice League for a little and they started boring me after about 15-20 issues. Even Wonder Woman got fairly boring for me for a bit there. I've never been overly fond of DC. I've thought Superman was a pretty lame character for god knows how long. I think just maybe a lot of their writers just suck, as well as many characters. That's not to say that Marvel or Image or any other company is without their crap, but of the big 2, DC has always been at the wayside for me. I do truly hope this helps DC a bit, and even more so hope that the characters I like most keep on going, and I will be willing to give others a shot too even, maybe. Except Superman, he can die again and never come back for all I care.

All I can see in this picture is Green Lantern's glowing green machine gun wang.

That wasn't there before, was it?

Didn't they already do this... several times? I know they are trying to make things new and simpler but at some point I gotta wonder, why not just make new characters that don't have any back-story. I know batman is iconic but rebooting him every so often to make it "fresh" is just... dumb.

I have never been able to understand continuity in comic books, nor do I understand why we would need them. I mean, sure, maybe some consistent backstories to characters, but seriously, the amount of info dump on comic books characters just to get into the damn things is insane.

Never really bothered to get into comic books for that reason. I doubt I will now, but it does look a bit interesting.

DC stands for Defective Continuity.
You want a permanant line of continuity from thousands of issues over 50-60 years spanning hundreds of artists? Good luck with that, man.

If DC Comics is going to reboot every decade or so anyway, why not let characters age at a consistent rate and stay dead when they meet with an untimely end or expire due to age-related health problems? Popular characters will be back in one form or other in the next take on the DC Universe.

Still, for those who were put off by convoluted continuity it's high time for http://www.google.com/recaptcha/api/image?c=03AHJ_Vuu9iLKf7clwfCwZ_DQZQ8iEdBGJ5dXR5vpl5xPzf5eOjGNr73rh4b1vqKSCyRScs1rtd1FzwGYjGbTL3TdO1xOlW27EcaTWxjLjN6G_CajPtl1d06SO22WOmyR1_3brYO2dWjglBJBwQq5R53BbV_CNQj1flA

Well, I'm glad they decided to reboot, it'll make getting into it easier (repeated for the umpteenth time, I know). The digital thing is something I'm liking. While owning the actual comic will still be worthwhile, you don't have to drop money on a physical copy if you don't want to.

I am surprised they're rebooting everything, though. I mean, fifty-two new comics? Yeesh.

As was mentioned earlier, I direct you to Doctor Who. 40 years, 11 actors in the main role, several head writers, hundreds of guest writers, and the continuity is not only permanent, but isn't screwed up like the DC universe.

I was going to ***** about how this whole reboot and younger cast thing didn't work that well with Marvel's Ultimates line, but you know what? Fuck it. It's not like they're getting rid of anything good. The big two haven't put out a decent storyline since Secret Wars, and there's no reason this will be any worse than the current offerings. If it works out alright maybe I'll buy DC comics some more.
Really? Not a fan of the Brubaker-Cap run, or Civil War?
Shit, Civil War is what I meant. Sorry. That is the one that is the last thing that was good. Secret Wars... I must've sounded like a real tool there.

Way to make all the awesome stories I love officially meaningless and effectively erase all kinds of amazing characters as we know and love them from existence, because now all the development and growth they've gone through has never happened.

There are not enough facepalms in the universe to explain how I feel about this. I'm not interested in picking up comics if a) my favourite characters now don't exist anymore, and b) the characters that are still there are effectively complete strangers.

Dumb move DC. The main continuity better survive.

You know what? This kind of stupidity is what hurts how comics are viewed worldwide. A bunch of poorly-dressed people engaging in inane adventures that should have been resolved, one way or another, decades ago.

There are great comics about every single subject under the sun, and this super-hero bullshit still grabs the news more than any other theme explored in graphic novels.

I am officially praying for the day this whole genre enters a massive economic and creative meltdown.

And this is why i dont read DC or Marvel. Multiple creators with multiple agendas, confusion and reboots.

Pfft, i like a little continuity in what i read
And thank God/Dawkins that there are many other comics around the world. I pass at the childish continuity clusterfuck spelunking.
