Thankfully my parents got it. And sent it straight away. Still won't get it til at least Monday. Most likely Tuesday. I'm mostly peeved cos I paid extra specifically so I'd have it on release day :/

Two movies (Deadfall and Aftermath) and two graphic novels out. One is a miniseries just called dead space which is a prequel and the other is called salvage, which comes after Dead Space and just before Dead Space 2.

Yes :( Yes I did. Mostly cos I had no choice about it, you could only Pre order that edition. I don't have the move so I'll nick it off my mate at some point.

I switched to casual because I had like one clip left already loaded into my guns and I was stuck at a part in the Ishimura fighting like 10 Ranked-Up Necromorph's so I thought screw it.
Me and my friend were playing parallel games. Every time one got ahead of the other we'd tell them what to expect ahead. He was more skilled but I was better at finding ammo/health/money. In the end I had no ammo for two of my guns and just ran through the clusterfucks before the final part. Thankfully, I had plenty of ammo for the Seeker which has crazy damage output even when you don't dismember.

I'm doing my second playthrough on normal so I can horde achievements and collect the Elite suits. My friend is going directly to Zealot. More power to him.
I'm replaying on casual to horde items and then going to zealot :)
Yeah, I figure I'm gonna have to hit up Zealot eventually. Don't even get me started on Hardcore.

if you don't particularly want a scary game
and just want a space action/adventure sci-fi - original monster kill-a-thon
Dead Space 2 is one of the best out there
i think dead space's main problem is being recognised as a BAD horror game
when what it IS is a VERY GOOD shooter

It has the same problem as Dead Space 1. It has great graphics, great sound, great atmosphere...BUT...all it's scare factor drains when you realise that enemies appear in the same place everytime. I played the first three chapters a few times (to decide what difficulty I should go for) for example, and had my gun pointed at every entry point for the enemies second time round because you just know where they spawn, and all scare factor drained very quickly.

It's also a bit too easy if you played/completed Dead Space 1 because they've seemed to keep simular attack patterns for the aliens. "Oh know I'm being dragged by a giant mutant alien! Better shoot the giant orange bit...just like in Dead Space 1 when I was being dragged by a giant mutant alien!"

I finished it in one day. You don't need the move, just turn up the sensitivity like crazy and use the assault rifle as much as possible! <3

I'll sum up my thoughts quickly and just tell you all I thought the game was fantastic, 'cause there's something I'd like to point out for those of you who are enjoying the game, but wish it was more of a survival horror. I discovered this when I started up my third playthrough on Zealot mode without using New Game+ (trying to prepare myself for Hardcore mode): It can be played like a survival horror game, and it works alarmingly well considering it probably wasn't designed for this.

First of all, there are surprisingly few areas that actually lock you in 'till you've cleared the room of enemies. You can run from all but a few encounters. The problem with doing this is that the Necromorphs will pursue you via vents and doorways for quite some time, attacking in places that are normally unoccupied. This strips you of the ability to stop and gather supplies most of the time, keeping your resources very low - which in turn, strips you of the ability to fight and forces you to run.

Your weapons will remain fairly weak and low ammo will force you to rely on environmental weapons for use with Kinesis when confronted with enemies that you must kill. The game becomes a desperate scramble for survival, and some of the tactics you'll resort to using can surprise you.

I found myself hurling chairs, ammo containers and human corpses at enemies with Kinesis just to stagger/knock them over and buy myself a couple of seconds to get the door open. I found myself selling off what little ammo I had to buy Stasis packs so I could hold enemies back while I ran. Impaling Necromorphs with their own claws and purposely decompressing rooms stopped being humorous diversions and became absolutely necessary for survival. I would Stasis enemies and desperately melee them to death, hoping I'd finish them before slow-mo wore off.

I strongly recommend giving this style of play a try, it really puts some of the fear and desperation back into the game. Even knowing where the enemies are going to attack is of little comfort; it simply increases the dread you feel as you walk towards the point that triggers their attack.

My biggest issue was that people were comparing Dead Space as an original IP to the Resident Evil series. And let's face it, with the exception of maybe RE4 the RE series was probably never any good and needs to die.

Why tarnish a strong IP by comparing to a series that's been brain-dead for so long?

The first one barely made me jump. This one.. the first half an hour, the gas streams that go off and then the sprinklers... not even necromorph related actually made me jump <3
