If you read the article in game informer or listen to some of the dev commentary, you will find that dead space 3 is not a sole action game set on a planet. Do research people! So many misconceptions in this thread, no wonder game developers don't want to take risks anymore.

Hmm, Retake Mass Effect was named because Of the whole take earth back Thing...
Maybe it should Be "Destroy the Marker...Pens that Ea used to add shooter gamplay to dead space with. Yeah"
Destroy The Marker...Pens. Genius!

Because that would take eeffffooort! :p

OT: Calm down peoples, like i say always, lets wait and see. Dead space 2 took the whole "cramped space station" thing as far as it could. If they did it again, i think fatigue for the series would set in. A change in locale is good i think.

The cover system is fine, combat like in the past games simply wouldnt work when the enemies get guns, just look at the last few resident evils >.> Im going to assume there will still be plenty of necro's aswell.

The free roaming and exploration could be really good.

Taping weapons together sounds really good.

As i said, lets wait and see :p

Don't see the real issue, the trailer reminded me of the second game's actually. Dead Space was hardly terrifying, but it's been a great series. I only worry that they are adding in a cooperative mode because it was demanded so much (by either fans or EA), and I just hope it doesn't suffer cause of that. Explosions in a trailer are not reflective of the whole game.

Compare this to my reaction to Hitman Absolution's trailer which I felt was just fucking stupid and made no sense in the context of the series. And similarly I don't think that's going to be reflective of the whole game, but it certainly paints to me that the developers have forgotten what Hitman is about (among other things)

I soft of don't blame them for going this route, Dead Space has been a franchise that hasn't exactly sold like gangbusters. I remember hearing way back when that sales for Dead Space 1 were so underwhelming EA thought it was going to drop the franchise, someone somewhere had enough faith in it and got a Dead Space 2 out. Problem is that while it sold better it still has really underwhelming sales for a AAA game of such polish. Sad thing is that horror doesn't really sell anymore, they're aiming at what sells and hoping it works. Unfortunately it probably won't, look at FEAR 3, while it was a really competent shooter with really interesting multiplayer elements it flopped hard because it alienates fans of the previous games and the crowd who they are aiming for are like oh what's this another fear? Well this new one will be like the others so we won't bother.

really? surprising considering all the stuff that came from the game/universe...(spin of games, that animated thing) well it least it has some following, and a 3rd game is being made so thats somthing

[quote/] Sad thing is that horror doesn't really sell anymore,[/quote]
but dead space was hardly ever "horror" even in the first place, in fact I don't think you can say "horror doesnt sell well" when there havnt BEEN any proper AAA horror releases for a very long time

I think they kind of realised by Dead space 2

[quote/]they're aiming at what sells and hoping it works. or mabye peopel can only tolerate so many bland shooters so the sub-par ones get shafted

I think its unfair to call this another "Fear 3" regardless of the new features from what I cna gather Fear 3 [i/]just wasnt that good[/i]

like from the sounds of it the CO-OP was introduced in the worst way...you shouldnt have co-op "forced" on you if you choose to play single player, you shouldnt feel like your "playing it wrong"

I think fear 2 wasnt that great anyhow, not scary, convoluted plot, the series headed downhill

Calling it now. Dead Space 3 will end up being the worst in the series and, considering it's EA, will have a shitacular ending that will piss a whole lot of people off and ruin the series as a whole.

There are still bloody necromorphs. Fighting humans from cover will likely be a minimal part of the game.

But who am I to speak. Clearly, five minutes of trailer material definitely leaves you an accurate opinion of the game.
Yep, this guy ^

(also unrelated, but Balloonshop is amazing)

I like the look of the gargantuan cthulian necromorph monstrosities, looks like a nice variation instead of the infected human zombie types we've been fighting the last 2 games.

They said the cover mechanics are going to be at a minimum also.

Its Visceral, they've made enough good things to keep my optimistic. I'm not going to dismiss it just because it has EA on the box.

But enough with the internet tuff guy routine of "Dead Space aint scary hurr durr" because we get it already. You're cool and tuff and doesn't afraid of anything.

And also quit it with the "retake _______" because its just annoying and nobody is going to take you seriously.

So when you put the game on easy and blasted your way through, is that what your basing it off of? See when you put Dead Space on anything but normal, it becomes one of the harder Survival horror games to beat. See when I mention this, people always roll their eyes and go you shouldnt't have to. Thats when I go, well they have a difficulty setting and if you want the experience, put it on a harder difficulty and stop bitching.
you are kidding me, right? dead space 1 AND 2 were two of the easiest games ive ever played. when you beat a game using the starting weapon with only 4 deaths on the hardest difficulty, theres something wrong.
So when you stop lying, and tell me you died way more than that because everybody I have talked to(I know alot of people that have played Dead Space) they had a hella of a time. So when your ready, I will be waiting.
I didn't wish to get involved with this thread, since I find such complaining about a game we don't even have an hour of footage available left, to be utterly idiotic. But, this post I just quoted made me want to chip in.

I didn't die once on Hardcore Mode for Dead Space 2, nor Insanity for Dead Space 1. Each game, once you've already played through them once, are quite predictable and allow players to plan ahead. Just because you and your friends couldn't either be patient enough or be far more strategic, doesn't mean everyone else encountered your issues. Hell, I had enough ammo at the end of my Hardcore run to repeatedly shoot The Stalking Necromorph who couldn't die into the fan, killing it. Then again, most of the time in the game, I'd pick up something that I could use as a weapon with telekinesis and impale the morphs with them.

Want to know why I love the series? It isn't because of the horror, those nerves died years ago when Silent Hill mentally scarred me for life (which I love it for). Dead Space is like Resident Evil: Once you realize that you have a Grenade Launcher (or Plasma Gun), you don't really feel that afraid when you apply said weapons in a smart manner. What I love the Dead Space series for is its lovecraftian feel. The insight into how the human mind is truly a fragile thing, easily broken with the simplest of events. How there are things that humanity wasn't meant to uncover and as such, will suffer for once they've uncovered it (Markers, which I hypothesize are actually a higher form of life's version of a weapon of mass destruction. Send it to a planet, let the morphs take over, glass the planet, and move on.)

Psychology is where the true horror is. The type of horror that just builds up, creeping its way into your orifices, and spiritually violating you as you go along. Dead Space had a small form of this, but it lies only in the mental breaking of the various characters the players uncover or come across. It is mostly Action-Horror, with raccoon scares and the occasional close up on a mutilated face. With Dead Space 3 going into a frozen planet with new variants of the morphs and soldiers to face, it'll be interesting to see how they'll execute things. I won't let trivial matters such as Cover and Human enemies ruin it. Heck, they've seemingly removed the multiplayer to provide an optional co-op mode, which operates differently from Resident Evil 5, in which if you play single player, the AI will not be there to bug you.

So, is it that much to ask my fellow gamers to be patient? Then again, gamers these days don't seem to know the value of waiting, so I guess it might be.

Then again, there was some of the whole 'RUINED FOREVERRRR' when Dead Space 2 rolled around due to the action sequences (visable in DS2's trailer) and Isaac being suddenly voiced (again, in trailer) so I think I'm going to take a lot of the Dead Space 3 talks with a pinch of salt.
but...but..RUINED FOREVER is a proud tradition! especially when theres little information

It may not be as bad as you think, I remember thinking that Resident Evil 4 would be terrible since it departed from the typical Survival-Horror setting (for the time) however for me it turned out to be one of the better games in the series.

All I'm saying is wait a while until we can see it more complete, you never know it might turn out good.

I suggest you play Lost Planet 3 then. It's interesting how they've swapped themes.

I was more upset with Issac somehow becoming a badass and swapping witty oneliners with a PARTNER. You know that thing that takes any horror out of a horror game?
Resident Evil 5, FEAR 3, games that COULD have continued to be scary or fitting to their genres but turn around and say hey let's try something totally different from our series! Jumping into the over saturated shooter market. Brilliant.

Also Lost Planet 3 was announced too ...awkward~!

To be fair, ME3 has very little RPG anyway, so take that as you will.

But, yeah, I think a lot of people are getting disappointed over how a lot of great games are just becoming more and more Fast game shooterified.

Can't wait until this phase blows over, and we get more variety in games again.

GOD, I AM SO ANGRY AT THIS GAME RIGHT NOW. YOUR ON A PLANET, SHOOTING AT PEOPLE - HOW IS THIS 'DEAD SPACE'? THE ENEMIES ARE NEITHER DEAD NOR IN SPACE! AND THERE'S COVER BASED COMBAT AND CO-OP NOW! NEXT THEY'LL REVEAL THE QUICK TIME EVENTS AND UNSKIPPABLE CUTSCENES, JUST TO REALLY SHOW US THAT THIS GAME IS GOING TO SUCK!!!
Stupid fucking EA! I wanted Dead Space, not GEARS OF SPACE 3!!

*cough* that better? or should I sprinkle in more swearing?
that was excellent

except you need more anguish...talk about how this game is responsible for killing your dog, that kind of thing

but I think youve got it

I'm actually joking, though I wouldn't be surprised if it actually turned out that way.
