In other news, idiots who love caps-lock too much still on the loose.

But back to you in the studio, Rampant!

Thanks Rampant, as the title says, EA has said that the popular Science-Fiction-Horror game series, "Dead Space" will be cancelled if Dead Space 3 does not sell 5 Million copies. Over to PC Gamer for the facts:

http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/06/15/dead-space-needs-around-five-million-fans-to-survive-according-to-ea/

And the fans reaction? Over to weather!

Thanks main studio. As you can see, the average fan slowly grows more angry the more they interact with EA business deals, meaning that this will cause people to swear off EA products, thereby robbing the game of it's needed 5 Million Copies. The iorny is brilliant- Oh screw this. Sorry, I was just watching The Newsroom online.

Look, if you still don't get it, EA will kill the Dead Space franchise if 5 million copies aren't sold, even though both of the previous games averaged 2 million and got decent reviews from Yahtzee.

PS: Yes, I know this was announced several months previously, I didn't know. Sorry.

Wait wait ... Do they need to sell 5 million copies? Or make 5 million dollors in profit ? Because what you title says and what the OP says are two different things . There is no way DS3 is selling 5 million copies so if that's what they are aimin for , they are screwed . 5 million dollors in profit is possible though , but still a Pretty high number . Exactly how many copies of the games needs to be sold to generate 5 million dollars in profit?

A paltry 84,000 for 5 mil in profits.

Sadly they want to sell 5 million COPIES of the game. I think it's a ploy to off the current devs really, rather than a real number they want to achieve.

They'll still have the IP, but they can get new people to work on it. They could anyway, sure. But this is just a slightly more polite way of doing it? I dunno..

It does sound like EA (Evil Agenda) are just gunning for the current developers. Maybe they aren't cranking out titles fast enough for EA (Endless Annoyance)

Plus this way they can blame the devs for not making a good enough game and they can also blame the customers/pirates despite their unrealistic aims.

It needs to sell 5 million copies.

At £40 per copy, that's about £200, 000, 000 they're expecting to make overall. At $60 that's $300, 000, 000

They're boned, I know.

Welp, I at least hope they close the Dead Space trilogy. I don't want to have a franchise cancelled before it ends.

EA executives prove they still have no grasp on reality. I've not played DS myself, but anyone who remembers Bullfrog and Westwood knows that the bloodied hunting shotgun that sent them on their way is probably pointing vaguely in the direction of Visceral Games.

Well I'm not going to buy it, and if I could retroactively not buy DS2 I would. The original was a very solid game.

All I know is that Necromorphs were probably one of the most interesting ideas in the genre. The incredibly forgettable plot was serviceable in the first game. The second game IMO was completely unneeded, or at least it didn't need Isaac to miraculously survive with Ren & Stimpy style SPACE...MADNESS.

Then again having it switch to another random engineer would have been pretty awkward as well. They could have had it be about a woman looking for her children in the city (maybe they were in that school you otherwise have no fucking reason to go to) and she just happens to have Macgyvver skills.

Its really too bad that EA decided to spend probably as much or more on marketing and the movies/comics/tacked on multi/tie in games as they did on the actual series.

When you invest that much cash almost wholly ineffectively and unnecessarily (and some would say incredibly stupidly) on an IP that scarcely broke any sales records, and has a rather modest following, your only choice seems to keep digging into that money pit and set up completely ridiculous sales quotas.

Going the RE5 route and making the game having the campaign built around co-op (a.i. or otherwise) isn't going to do them any good either. Survival is much less tense when you have another fully able person there with you, or aimbot a.i., and the only reason that they feel they can justify it is if they include a half dozen "2 switch puzzles" I'm sure.

"See? If they other guy weren't here to weigh down that pressure plate or flip that other switch you'd be boned now!" I'm sure that with the time manipulation thingy's and being a fucking engineer he'd find a way.

I'd say it's more a matter of EA wanting away from the ip of Dead Space itself due to all the money they threw at marketing DS2 and it not selling the way they thought. Sure, it didn't perform to their "expectations" but, by any reasonable expectation DS2 did very well.

EA is just being EA at this point and a decent developer and ip are going to get the shaft for EA's stupidity.

It would be nice but I honestly see DS going the same way Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver & HL has. (then in 10 years they'll drop the original story unfinished and do a reboot)

Yeah, I'm getting the feeling that EA's philosophy is "EVERY IP must be Battlefield-level successful or TO THE DUNGEON WITH IT".

Unfortunately, with what they've shown so far with the third act in the franchise, I won't be one of those five million sales they apparently demand.

What, are they trying to threaten us? Are they nuts? Why would a gamer have any attachment to a series which has been watered down beyond recognition, just like Dragon Age, Mass Effect.. oh wait, I'm seeing a pattern here.

Then they better wrap up this storyline and not leave any cliffhanger endings like the first one and, to a lesser extent, the second one.

Yes, but EA's rampant stupidity and insane corporate culture never gets old.

Who cares? Seriously. It's EA being idiots again. If they wanted people to buy their shit, they wouldnt completely make a series a shell of what it use to be and try to pass it off as a good game in marketing.

But by all means, threaten us into buying your sub par space shooter EA. Because that's how businesses work right?

Old, and soooooooooooooooooo fucking stupid.

I had no hate towards EA before I saw that Dead Space 3 trailer. This is just like adding spikes to a boot that repeatedly kicks me in the balls.
