Meh old news and it really isn't surprising, for the amount of polish that both 1 and 2 have the game just isn't getting the attention it deserves. It's just the curse of the horror genre, no matter how good the game is, it isn't going to sell like FPSes.

There isn't a unit small enough to describe how little I care or how little I would miss Dead Space.

Wait wait ... Do they need to sell 5 million copies? Or make 5 million dollors in profit ? Because what you title says and what the OP says are two different things . There is no way DS3 is selling 5 million copies so if that's what they are aimin for , they are screwed . 5 million dollors in profit is possible though , but still a Pretty high number . Exactly how many copies of the games needs to be sold to generate 5 million dollars in profit?
Nope. Five million copies. [http://www.cinemablend.com/games/EA-Says-Dead-Space-3-Has-Sell-5-Million-Survive-43629.html]

Bye bye dead space. You won't really be missed by me, but in a world without EA you certainly had a right to exist.

LMAO I guess it goes bust than.

I love the way EA is Now threatening Fans with closing Game Franchise if we all don't buy enough copies. This actually makes me not want to buy the game, and leaves me very suspicious that DS 3 will be the worst of the 3, and EA knows this so now they're suggesting that it will discontinue if it doesn't sell super well, and trying to make it sound like it's the Gamers fault if it doesn't.

I mean does this make anyone here want to buy the game more after hearing this?

I just say "let it", Dead Space was a great game and Dead Space 2 was a great sequel depiste being more action focused and have a cancer named Multiplayer.

Both ended withou a need for a sequel and seeing news and videos of the third I know I won't play, goodbye, Dead Space, it was good while it lasted.

Whoah! That's an unexpectedly blunt and honest way of putting it! Sadly, I won't be getting it; not because of co-op (which I'd be really looking forward to) but because the co-op is online only...that's what really put me off :/

Well at least it's a good way to make sure a series ends where it needs to... for good... make it so unprofitable no one would dare to fund another one ever again...<.<

Who cares? Seriously. It's EA being idiots again. If they wanted people to buy their shit, they wouldnt completely make a series a shell of what it use to be and try to pass it off as a good game in marketing.

But by all means, threaten us into buying your sub par space shooter EA. Because that's how businesses work right?
I care....I love the series and to see it go is rather sad because of EA's wankery...

and then [incoming flamebait rant] a bunch of self rightious people vow not to buy the game in their crusade against EA which ONLY hurt the game and its devs[/end rant]

I'm not blaming people for ot wanting/not buy the game....just the Idea that its actually going to achieve anything if they dont out of protest

First they needlessly produce sequels to a good game, then they change almost everything in the last game and then they kill it off. Yep, sounds like EA.

I just don't get it - Dead Space 2 was a huge commercial success. Why are they threatening Visceral Games and pretty much putting them out to pasture? There is no way this game is selling 5 million copies. Frankly, it doesn't look that good. But seriously, taking the ball away and sending them home after all the good they've done? That's like punishing a straight A student for bringing home a B.

Sometimes a sequel is going to suck. Imagine if Capcom had killed off the Devil May Cry franchise based on the second game? Something tells me EA just wants to get rid of Visceral for some incredibly stupid reason. If that's the case, I hope the game DOES sell 5 million copies.

Suck it, EA.

Maybe it's EA's way of emotional blackmail; "if you really love the franchise, you'll all pay up". Thing is, nobody is going to do that without looking at the quality first.

No such thing as unconditional love/ support in the gaming biz.

I was nearly turned off from Dead Space 3 because of co-op but then thought I'd get it anyway. This is just silly. Dead Space is a horror game, those don't have the mainstream appeal of shooters (Hence why I think multiplayer was crammed into 2). Expecting them to make more money than CoD is unrealistic. Despite this and everything else I hear about Dead Space 3 (Cover system, human enemies) I will be buying because I want to know how it ends.

Haven't you seen the patterns? Dead Space is becoming what Resident Evil 4 turning into RE5 and 6.

Not that I ever wanted to buy Dead Space 3 but holding the game hostage and threatening me with possibly closing yet another developer studio really doesn't act as a good incentive.

Dead Space 1 and 2 combined didn't even sell 5 million. There has to be something deeper behind all this.

It needs to sell 5 million copies.

At £40 per copy, that's about £200, 000, 000 they're expecting to make overall. At $60 that's $300, 000, 000

They're boned, I know.
I feel I should add that all of that wont go to EA. Still, they are asking for a lot here.

I guess this is their way of confirming that we wont ever see Dead Space 4. Seeing the nasty turn into Gears of War happening with Dead Space 3 this might be for the best.

Still looking forward to Dead Space 3, unrealistic expectations for sales or not. I hope they change their mind about cutting it off, but it's their loss if they don't. They also better not put a cliff hanger in DS3's ending if that's the case. It wouldn't be the first time EA was talking bullshit. *Cough* Sales cheapen IP *Cough* So yeah, I wouldn't take Dead Space disappearing for granted just yet.

I will buy it eventually, when its cheap or on sale for like $30, it looks like a alright game, for $30 anyway : D

Sounds like they are setting the bar impossibly high so when they sake the developers they can say "we gave you a chance" pretty much there way of covering there ass and trying to make them seem less of an asshole for asking them, but don't worry i think we all still view them as assholes.
